Hello everyone, new thread for the final push.

OP posts:
Icouldbeknitting · 29/05/2016 16:06

I wish I could say that I've never tripped over my own trousers but I'd be lying. Is it sensible shoes and stay off it until it heals?

ExitPursuedByBear · 29/05/2016 16:39

I wasn't really listening. I was pondering whether I can drive or not. She did say something about a couple of weeks. I was thinking Tuesday. It is damned painful though.

NorbertDentressangle · 29/05/2016 16:43

oh no! Did they have a tiny giggle in A&E when you explained that?

I did something similar at work, walking across the grounds just as all the pupils were moving around between lessons. I was walking up some outdoor steps, wind caught my trousers and as I lifted my foot the toe of my foot got caught in the flappy trousers and I very nearly face-planted Blush

Icouldbeknitting · 29/05/2016 17:18

I have had broken toes, I was running into the house and leaped across the back step except that I didn't leap quite high enough that day. Concrete step vs bare foot was no contest. If you are planning on driving on Tuesday can I suggest painkillers as soon as you get up. I'd also suggest taking them before bedtime if you want any sleep at all - you have no idea how much you fidget in bed until you wake every time your foot gets caught in the bedding.

Revision yesterday - half an hour because I looked at how much Tassomai he hadn't been doing. It's all very well saying that you're going to be working on past papers but you do actually need to do that. Revision today - I'd say none because having the revision guide open on your knee while you watch tv doesn't count. A week seems a really long time but there's two days gone already.

ExitPursuedByBear · 29/05/2016 17:22

Got no sleep last night which is why I went to A&E today. They had the decency not to laugh too much. The nurse practioner who treated me was lovely and we ended up having a little sob about our dead horses.

Not much revision done here I don't think. Yes the week will whizz by.

228agreenend · 29/05/2016 17:29

I'mmsure I'm not the only one who has enjoyed a revision free weekend. Ds 1 and ds2 's noses will be back to the grindstone tomorrow. Looking forward to the new Top Gear tonight,

When I read statistics about how X people were injured by trousers or Y people were injured by socks, I sometimes wonder how it happened. Now we know. 👖

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/05/2016 18:42

Grin TheSecond.
Yes Top Gear here too. Attempting to keep an open mind.

Dd resumes revision tomorrow, but she really is feeling quite poo with her cold and exhaustion. She's a resilient type and not a moaner but I can see that she could do with a longer rest.

HeyBells · 29/05/2016 19:11

DS has had a couple of revision free days, out doing his sport yesterday, sleeping and watching videos, he seems more relaxed and is now back at his desk. Top Gear here as well tonight.

Hope the toe feels better soon Exit Grin

ExitPursuedByBear · 29/05/2016 19:39

Oh yes. I'll be a trouser related statistic.

Mysillydog · 29/05/2016 21:07

I broke my toe when I was 20 and got no sympathy from my friends so have some Cake from me and some Wine as a sensible analgesic choice.

littledrummergirl · 29/05/2016 22:16

No revision here this weekend. Ds1 looks so much more relaxed again. He went to the rescue he volunteers at this morning and had a good time.
Someone near us had a bonfire this afternoon. Dh took the opportunity to have one as well (I think they're anti-social so he will only have one if someone else does), ds1 said he wanted to burn his Latin, when it came to it he burnt some but kept his exercise books. Grin
This holiday is doing him some good.
Sorry about your toe exit, it's the sort of crappy thing I do so you have my sympathies.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 30/05/2016 12:30

Just place marking on the new thread. Not a lot going on here, just minimal revision as always. Not looking forward to study leave from next week as I'll be at work and DS2 will do nothing. Oh well, you can't do it for them.

Also with study leave DS2 will have to catch the public bus home after morning exams and catch it to school for afternoon ones. He has SN and has never taken a public bus on his own. He gets the school bus normally. Guess what we'll be doing tomorrow?! I think I'll get DS3 to come along and catch it with him, then I can follow along in the car. Sigh...

Mysillydog · 30/05/2016 13:05

Dd has offers at two sixth forms and has been sent information on taster days. They clash with each other and with her work experience
She really wanted to do both to help her decide which school she would prefer. She does have a favourite which is within walking distance, so I guess that is the one to go for.

ExitPursuedByBear · 30/05/2016 13:56

You would think they would avoid having the same days!

littledrummergirl · 30/05/2016 14:07

Ds1 has had to decline a taster day at one of his sixth form offers as he's away on ncs.
He's not that worried though.

Icouldbeknitting · 30/05/2016 14:25

Ellen Can he not stay ay school and revise in the library in between exams? I suspect that is one reason why our school doesn't have study leave, it's a rural area and the local pupils have a school bus so they never need to investigate the service bus. Public transport takes an hour with two buses and a stiff ten minute walk up hill at the end. Left to their own devices many of the kids would just not get there (as can be seen the rest of the year - if the school bus doesn't appear many go home and declare it an xbox day).

chocolateworshipper · 30/05/2016 14:43

Many thanks for all the comments about giving money for GCSE results. I have decided that I don't feel comfortable with "paying for grades." I am going to think of a method of reward that I feel more comfortable with.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 30/05/2016 15:10

Icould he could I guess, but would consider it punishment! Grin He doesn't go to the most local school as it didn't have a very good SEN dept, hence having to catch a bus.

In my day we loved it if the bus didn't turn up and always took a sneaky day off. It was only a 4 mile walk, but obviously much too far! Wink We always managed to walk home if the bus didn't make it at the end of the day, though. Hmm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/05/2016 15:22

Dd isn't going to either her taster day or a parent child thingy as one they put on during the same time as the English igcse, the other is when we are on holiday and they have the date far too late for us to do anything to change it.

Icouldbeknitting · 30/05/2016 15:37

I haven't told DS this but when I went to the sixth form taster days I only went on the first one. I came home at the end of the first day and decided that it was a total waste of my time as I knew which A levels I wanted to do and I didn't have any choice about where to do them. I didn't go back for the second day but enjoyed my longer holiday.

2gorgeousboys · 30/05/2016 16:23

We've had a lovely relaxing revision free weekend. DS1 had a leavers assembly on Friday afternoon after English lit (which he seems to think went quite well!) and they were given their leavers hoodies and year books. A friend he's known since they were both 4 and is changing schools for 6th for had a leavers party Friday afternoon/night. We'd already booked to go camping for the weekend so DS1 caught the train up to join us Saturday morning and we have had a very relaxed break with no wifi or mobile signal!

Back home now and back to the revision whilst I organise washing. DS1 has a couple of revision sessions on school this week but they are now officially on study leave!

DC are also at a rural school rather than our local one. DS2 has been driving all three DC in and out this year, and as a complication of the Christmas floods there are no longer fallback places on the school bus. So I have had to make a spreadsheet of his A levels, DDs GCSEs, and arrange lifts accordingly. The only two I'm really worried about are DDs afternoon exams, and if DH will remember to take her in!

BlueGazebo · 30/05/2016 18:11

The battle continues.... I cannot understand why he won't/can't revise. He is a bright kid and could get As but he won't go the extra mile needed. I've tried everything - bribes, threats, removing PS4, giving back PS4, hands off, hands on, nagging, hassling, revision guides, timetables, DVDs, but nothing is working. At least I know I have done everything I can.
