Hello everyone, new thread for the final push.

OP posts:
NicknameUsed · 14/06/2016 07:13

That's a bit pathetic really. Risking failing a GCSE just to watch a football match.

BitOutOfPractice · 14/06/2016 07:31

I think the most pathetic thing is the assumption that only boys are interested in football as I am very excited

An hour and a half off surely won't do much harm!

HesMyLobster · 14/06/2016 07:36

Russian History here today - this has been the toughest subject for DD to revise - so many similar sounding names and dates!

Good Luck to all with exams today!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/06/2016 07:39

Good luck everyone today!

Russian history sounds brutal.

BitOutOfPractice · 14/06/2016 08:30

DD's course covers Votes for Women, Liberal Reform, and Britain in WWI

ShanghaiDiva · 14/06/2016 08:32

Good luck to everyone today!
Russian history - loved this at A level, but agree regarding the names and also the spelling of names.

FantasyAndHope · 14/06/2016 08:47

It's Germany history here today. DD can't get to grips with the spellings of there's names etc

Icouldbeknitting · 14/06/2016 09:50

socks I am so sorry, there's never a good time for a loss like that but some times are more challenging than others.

Thanks to this thread I now know why it is that Y11 can go home at lunchtime on Thursday after half of the planned physics revision session. It's nothing at all to do with them having done enough and everything to do with avoiding mass sickness in the morning. Better a two hour session than none at all. We will not be watching the footie - this is a clueless household.

History today features the Vietnam war which apparently has too many dates in it and cannot be learned by anyone at all.

flatmouse · 14/06/2016 10:57

DS has history today and has remembered to txt me to let me know we went in to school (physics revision session before history exam). Tomorrow is physics 1, Friday is Biology 2. Next week he just has Chemistry 2 and Physics 2. WHOOP!
He tried prom suit/shirt/tie/shoes on on Saturday - so handsome (i'm biased Wink )
It's hard to balance the "keep going you're nearly there" with the wanting to give them a break because they're shattered.

BitOutOfPractice · 14/06/2016 11:14

I've just tested DD on her history. She really knows her stuff and has a real feel for it. Apple apparently doesn't fall too far from the tree Grin

Just needs to brush up on her dates

Icouldbeknitting my DD really struggled to revise Vietnam too

hewl · 14/06/2016 11:18

I'm really nervous about dds History A level!!
She's loved the topics she's studied this year and at her new school the topics look boring :-(

American History in the 1950s
East Germany
Napoleonic Wars

that list would have turned me right off

hewl · 14/06/2016 11:19

her unit today is Elizabeth :-)

she's loved it

ExitPursuedByBear · 14/06/2016 11:28

DD's history today is

1920's America
Hitler's Germany
Civil Rights

They have really whizzed through this part of the syllabus and she does not feel remotely confident. Just hope she did enough of the last paper and her two CAs to bring her mark up.

TheDrsDocMartens · 14/06/2016 11:32

American west here, doesn't interest me at all,

ShanghaiDiva · 14/06/2016 12:02

hewl - East Germany should be interesting for A level.
When I took A level history back in the early 1980s one of my topics was GB 1815- 1914 - a complete snoozefest.

starfleet · 14/06/2016 12:14

So sorry for your loss sock Flowers I hope you're both OK.

DS was so poorly over the weekend - some kind of 24 hour bug. He didn't have an exam yesterday so had an extra day to recover. He was a trouper and carried on working through his unfortunate sickness bouts.

History today.

marmiteloversunite · 14/06/2016 12:32

Just took my DD to school for history. Rather worryingly she told me it is about American history but not much happened in the era they are studying!! Queue a slight panic from me. Will be interesting to see what she says when she comes out!

marmiteloversunite · 14/06/2016 12:32

A week today it will all be over. That is my mantra for this week!

FantasyAndHope · 14/06/2016 12:38

It's history very soon DD is worried and is extremely shattered, I'm guessing it will be a late night tonight as she has R.S and chemistry tomorrow, at least tomorrow she can chill as Thursday she has no exams Friday she has 2

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/06/2016 12:43

American history in the 50s is interesting (to me anyway!). Loads happened then.
Napoleonic stuff - yawn fest.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/06/2016 12:44

Good for your ds Starfleet. I hope he is fully recovered, sounds grim.

starfleet · 14/06/2016 15:11

Thanks

starfleet · 14/06/2016 15:14

Sorry - pressed buttons to soon and my fat fingers on this phone are rubbish!

So thanks kitten! It was a bit grim and as he's not very often poorly he was all "woe is me", by Sunday evening my sympathy had waned a little.

flatmouse · 14/06/2016 15:44

DS not happy with History - was writing until last minute. Seems a bit down. Unsure if it's that he didn't have time to check/he doesn't think he's answered well/he struggled in general. Shame as it's one of his best subjects. Fortunately, i'd say it's the only one so far he's not been Ok with.

ExitPursuedByBear · 14/06/2016 16:14

Spoke to several of DD's friends as I was waiting to collect her and the consensus was that History was

OK

DD pretty pleased with it as she had crammed some of the topics last night and this morning and they came up. History is the only A level she is looking forward to, so she is hoping for a decent grade.

That's another one put to bed. She is not looking forward to Chemistry tomorrow.
