Hello everyone, new thread for the final push.

OP posts:
catslife · 08/06/2016 19:29

It isn't allowed orange see the attached link www.jcq.org.uk/exams-office/ice---instructions-for-conducting-examinations/notice-to-centres---the-people-present.
"Subject teachers aren't allowed to enter the exam room and see the papers or the candidates work unless invited to do so e.g. if there is a possible printing error on the paper".
Am pleased to hear some positives about today's exams. Maths (calculator) tomorrow.

BlueGazebo · 08/06/2016 19:41

DS had computing this morning and has said very little but if he got the question about upgrading then that would have been a gift as he's built his own. He hasn't revised much but I'm hoping he will wing it and with a B and C in the coursework, he shouldn't need too many on the paper to get a C.

The case studies he was expecting didn't come up in the Geog (AQA).

TheDrsDocMartens · 08/06/2016 19:43

Thanks catslife saved me a job searching for that Grin

I'm taking my invigilator role to heart, told an admin person off for using tippex Blush

Orangetoffee · 08/06/2016 19:46

catslife all those rules were adhered to.

Good luck to all the dc for the remainder of the exams.

catslife · 08/06/2016 19:55

Same here *theDr". Told someone off for writing on the desk with marker pen the other day - it turned out they were one of the teachers (wearing same colour top as school uniform).
That's OKorange just checking. We have clamped down since an incident a few years ago when JCQ inspectors visited the school and one of the HODs (a very senior member of staff) entered the exam room to view the paper. That sort of incident is taken very seriously.

NicknameUsed · 08/06/2016 20:04

DD said geography was OK. Everyone said the development gap question was a stinker though.

TheDrsDocMartens · 08/06/2016 20:14

We were inspected this week catslife came on the quietest session so far -result! Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/06/2016 20:20

dd said geography was ok, not the best but not as bad as it could have been.

Maths tomorrow.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 08/06/2016 20:31

Cracked record, geography was 'OK!' Grin

Computing was hard, but 'it's supposed to be hard,' apparently. Hmm And doing computing has made ICT seem really easy.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 08/06/2016 20:34

I've been 'volunteered' to invigilate Edexel maths tomorrow. Looking at the small room of candidates it'll probably be the foundation paper.

HesMyLobster · 08/06/2016 21:16

Derek well done to your ds for making it to the end of German! I Think we've all been following his story and rooting for him (and you!) to get through it!
Hope he doesn't suffer too much with migraines for the remainder of exams.

If subject teachers can't look at the papers, how do they put the unofficial marks on TSR etc?

Travelledtheworld · 08/06/2016 21:45

Another invigilator here.
Yes the teachers aren't supposed the see the papers until 24 hours after the exam. In practice they lurk around Waiting for the exams to finish and ask different candidates what was in it.

starfleet · 08/06/2016 21:54

We were back to "OK" after Geography this afternoon.

DS has spent the evening revising Maths - apparently on advice from his friends tutor he has been going through the 2013 paper as there is stuff on that particular one that hasn't come up for a while....we shall see.

2gorgeousboys · 08/06/2016 22:28

More "oks" here!!

After our mad protractor dash the morning of the last maths exam, I have made DS check and double check his equipment for tomorrow's exam!

starfleet DS1's Maths teacher gave him the 2010 paper to practise today; perhaps they go in three year cycles...

ExitPursuedByBear · 08/06/2016 22:57

Dd has just told me that her current squeeze went into school for a spesh Maths revision session and has just taught her something she didn't know on snapchat. Or is all that one massive euphemism?

BlueGazebo · 09/06/2016 06:11

We got a big list of predicted maths questions for the calc paper from school, based on what wasn't on the non-calc.

Good luck to everyone in Maths today (especially the C/D borderline kids)!

HesMyLobster · 09/06/2016 07:26

Good Luck everybody for maths!

I wonder if Dwayne Pipe and Ivor Wrench will make another appearance on the AQA paper?! Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/06/2016 07:29

I didn't know snapchat could be used for such noble purposes!

There are various bodies that produce predicted maths papers based on the first exam. They aren't terribly accurate as there is a big pool to choose from!

dd seems so worn out this morning. Still 9 more exams after today.

HesMyLobster · 09/06/2016 08:09

DD spent ages on TSR looking at all the predictions for the call paper. In the end she concluded that you could drive yourself mad trying to guess what would come up. I have to say I agree with her! In the end she just revised all her weakest areas.

Still 11 exams to go after today but she's surprisingly bouncy - skipped off to maths this morning saying she was quite looking forward to it! Shock

I hope it doesn't disappoint her!
Good luck all.

TheSecondOfHerName · 09/06/2016 08:14

I'm looking forward to reading the reaction on twitter. EdexcelMaths is already trending and they haven't had the exam yet.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 09/06/2016 08:18

Maths is DS2's best subject, mainly because it involves very little writing! He does the higher papers for maths and science and foundation for everything else that is tiered.

I'm never quite sure if foundation is a benefit for him or not as he's C/D borderline so could do either paper, but on foundation has to plough through the whole paper and get nearly all of it right, whereas on higher he could get his C with much fewer questions answered.

Good luck everyone for maths today.

Icouldbeknitting · 09/06/2016 08:41

I am expecting texts of woe and failure again today. He does well enough in the past papers they've been doing (endlessly) in school but he cannot find an error in his workings nor can he see whether the answer he's come up with is reasonable. If he gets it right first time then that's good but he can't come up with any more marks by checking his work. If the numbers don't come out sensibly then it's always the question that's wrong rather than him making a mistake. I would guess that he'll come out with a B, if he has a nightmare then there's room for it to still be a C, I think if he has a fantastic day it will still be a B. He needs a C, he'll get a C, all will be well.

I feel better for that, thank you all because I have no-one in real life to work through this with. It strikes me that what I wrote applies equally to physics whereas with chemistry and biology there's a bit more of a story to go with the numbers and he finds that easier.

Good luck to all of you, especially those of you with children on the C/D boundary. It's not the end of the world because they can take it again although that's not what school have been saying to DS (apparently).

needastrongone · 09/06/2016 08:47

Grin@ Exit.

Maths here today too. Hopefully should be fine. I'm picking DS and his mate up at 10.45 as I'm not working.
