2015 GCSE Remarks - Any results back yet?

Hi. I'm just interested to know if anyone has received any remarks back yet and if so, how long they took and what the outcome was? My DS has a AQA English Language in for remark and it is like waiting for the GSCE results all over again!!

OP posts:

.....(meant was not moved up to A from a B (not A* obviously!)).

Idefix · 16/09/2015 06:12

All this waiting is making me anxious, ds however is either very relaxed or has the best poker face ever Hmm

IguanaTail · 16/09/2015 06:39

We had a paper remarked for a student and it had gone up 18 marks from a D to a B at A level. I think it's disgraceful that the marking could have been so inaccurate. I'm not sure how it affected her uni entrance I will need to ask. Needless worry all round.

JanetBlyton · 16/09/2015 07:31

On results day the school administrator told us (GCSE remark) that GCSE remarks came last as the boards prioritise A level remarks for obvious reasons but I presume they would be too late for accepting places that year through UCAS even if they rush them through. D to B at A level is a big big mistake.

I marked A level papers for a while for extra money and it is so hard to be fair. You will get someone whose paper you can hardly read (handwriting issues) and someone else's which looks as if it is from a handwriting textbook yet of course you are bending over backwards to treat them both the same and you know how much is at risk for the candidates and then you have a mark scheme (or did in my day ) and have attended a meeting with moderators to try to ensure all markers are following a similar standard
It is not an exact science unless I suppose it is just simple maths where 20 is wrong and 19 is right.

Still waiting

Majaso12 · 16/09/2015 12:37

Chemistry has gone up to an A* - finally some luck with remarks! He only needed 1 ums. Haven't been told how many marks it went up, but I've just asked. Now I'm wondering if we should put another biology paper in as we put 1 in and that didn't change, but need 5 ums so probably unlikely to go up that much.

thunderbird69 · 16/09/2015 12:49

Iguanatail - what subject was that? It is shocking. Also, what concerns me is that it is only the students whose parents can afford the fees that get the papers re-marked. There must be lots of others who, effectively, have the 'wrong' grades and may have lost out on offers and opportunities as a result.

MrsUltracrepidarian · 16/09/2015 13:00

Iguanatail , was it a MFL?
Have seen some completely bonkers results in German and French.

IguanaTail · 16/09/2015 22:02

No it wasn't actually.

Although the random MFL marking is another story..

Idefix · 17/09/2015 09:00

I have one happy ds, remark is back for English, up 7 marks (only needed 1) to a very firm c. Feeling elated for ds and relieved for myself - won't need to do more coaching/prodding with a sharp stick Grin

AnyoneButAndre · 17/09/2015 09:10

So shocked about the school where everyone got a D for biology. What the hell happened there?

thunderbird69 · 17/09/2015 10:32

Idefix - what fantastic news! Smile

Idefix · 17/09/2015 10:50

Thanks TB69 Smile
I think in part thinking about pp above ds has atrocious handwriting, it has always been a big anxiety that some poor tired marker would look at his paper and give up a bit. We really pushed for ds to be able to get allowance to type out answers (after all at uni, level there is no handwritten essays anymore) he was given the bog standard 25% extra time.
Now doing all three sciences so much less writing. Will continue to get extra support around writing and presentation at school, which we are glad about.

Idefix · 17/09/2015 10:51

Should clarify that he has a number sld that he has inherited from me sadly.

Hi - Has anyone received a successful remark of gcse Eng. Lang with the WJEC board. My DD was 2 UMS (1 raw mark) away from an A. She received three A's and one B in the component papers/controlled assessments but they were all so marginal that the B forced the grade down. The school have already returned the B paper for remarking since it was so close and her mock grade was A*. We don't know whether to get the other paper remarked aswell since that was only just an A and one mark from anywhere would make a difference. The school say that they have sent quite a few papers for remarking and all have come back unchanged so far. This seems a little unusual for a subjective subject? Does anyone have any experience?

QOD · 18/09/2015 16:55

Not a word argh!

Angry
Idefix · 18/09/2015 17:14

Which exam board?
Hopefully the wait will be over soon. Wine will help in the meantime Grin

QOD · 18/09/2015 17:33

Aqa arrrgh

thunderbird69 · 18/09/2015 17:58

How long have you been waiting for?

QOD · 18/09/2015 18:06

Dropped forms n cheques off on the 2nd

Majaso12 · 18/09/2015 18:30

AQA chemistry went up 1 mark on unit 1 and 3 marks on unit 2. Biology unit 1 didn't change, so put unit 2 in for remark today.

Has anyone had any remarks for CIE igcse English first language back yet? We put it in on results day and it's still not back.

thunderbird69 · 18/09/2015 18:47

QOD - that's a while, I was told they were taking about 1 week (DS's were sent off a week today but not heard anything)
