Year 7 Starters

The new uniform is all ready, pens and pencils bought, as many of the practicalities that I can deal with now have been dealt with. So, just a few days to go. Daughter is getting nervous and, to be completely frank, I am a bit too. Not because I don't think she'll be fine but because, well, change can be daunting.

Anyone else at that stage too? Or, if you're already past this phase, how long did it take until you all settled in to a new routine?

(Couldn't spot any other general Year 7 threads, but apologies if there are any others already.)

Poor DD.

I would feel awful for her too.

I have been the mum running to the bus stop in the morning with a planner/pe kit/homework. DH has taken books to school for her twice.

But now he is refusing to do it again, and he is ok with her getting into trouble about it. I'm not Blush

I know he is right and she will never learn to be more responsible if we run around after her, but the thought of her being upset in school if I could have prevented it kills me. Blush

Letting them get it wrong in a sort of safe way is probably the right thing to do for them developmentally, but it's still crap, especially as forgetting stuff seems to be considered a much greater crime than when I were a lass.

And apologies for my rogue 'their' above. I'll give myself a detention.

Dh is very much of the, let them do it themselves and learn from the consequences school. I hate to think of any of them upset at school, so am more of a softy and tend to give them a lot more support.

I do try to make a judgement call though. I'm learning which teachers are likely to come down hard on them and which will be less punitive, so I'm more likely to move hell and high water to deliver a book or project etc if I think they are likely to really get into trouble for not having it.
