1 or 2?

One each, different schools so not exchangeable. Machine washed when required, they dry really well on a coat hanger so easy to launder overnight if major disaster occurs (regular occurance with dd- paint, tipex, cookery ingredients, mud, grass etc.!)
Both have had two in a secondary school career, new ones in larger size at some point in year 9. DS's in good enough condition still to pass down to younger brother (however unlikely to go to same school so will probably end up in the second hand uniform shop).

1 - he's in Yr 10, hoping it'll last thro' Yr 11 as well but not sure it will....... 6' 3 and still growing

Taz1212 · 10/07/2015 21:22
  1. It's £100 so there's no fricking way I'm buying 2! His last blazer lasted two years though so he got his money's worth. I don't know whether to keep it as a spare or whether the knowledge that he has a spare will end up with him being more careless about the whereabouts of his new blazer...
teacherwith2kids · 10/07/2015 22:58

One for each child.

DS likes his to start off roomy, will do anything to avoid going shopping, so has been happy for me to buy vast and grow into it over 2 years. End of Y9, on second blazer. M&S, sew on badge, washed every half term or more often in case of disaster.

DD was less accommodating wrt starting off with an oversized blazer, and has grown like a week in Y7 so I suspect may need a new one for Y8. They're about £25 each so not too bad.

MilkRunningOutAgain · 11/07/2015 11:38

Just one, washed about every half term, they wear them a lot as they are required to around school, only take them off in lessons if teacher permits, bought large at start yr 7 but way too small now, will hardly do up, DS has got much broader chested. Price OK, about £28 from memory. Will need a new one for yr 8.

1

They are £25, and wash and dry overnight easily.

Fierceflora · 11/07/2015 19:12

Just one. They're horrible polyester type material though so wash and dry really quickly

Enkopkaffetak · 11/07/2015 19:42

1 but it is washable so if there is an emergency we wash (I prefer to dryclean to get it pressed)

WarDlawROAD2004 · 02/08/2019 10:25

My ds is going into 6th year (we’ In Scotland) and dd is going into 4th year. Ds has one blazer for s1&2 and then another for s3 and one for s4&5 and has to get a blue braided one for s6. Dd has had one blazer for s1,2&3 and is getting another in the same size for s4 hopefully will last until she needs a blue braided one for s6. Blazers are £31.50 and are only available from the school shop. So absolutely no need to get more than one a year at the most wash on weekends or holidays

yikesanddang · 02/08/2019 13:12

Our blazer has to be dry cleaned. Can some be washed?

SilentSister · 02/08/2019 16:49

1 bought new in Year 7, replacement bought new in Year 10, first one then sold secondhand and just put the second in to sell secondhand too. Dry cleaned once a year and then before selling. They are £100 each though, and I sold them for £50.

youngfarmer · 02/08/2019 17:07

Just one each! They get washed about once a month or so

BubblesBuddy · 03/08/2019 00:50

For secondary - DDs has one in y7. Never bought another one! Started big and ended up small. Not worn much either. Private boarding school so just worn occasionally when it was cold. Never washed and they were like felt! DDs prep school had first class wool ones and they lasted years too. They had a cape that went over the blazer. Never bought two of that either.

As for polyester! Stinking man made yuk!

BubblesBuddy · 03/08/2019 04:17

4 year old thread!!! Ooops!

PettsWoodParadise · 03/08/2019 07:48

One. Made out of recycled plastic bottles. Lining came away in several places two terms ago but I wasn’t buying another as the blazer changes colour to a black one for Y10. So the green blazer lasted (just about) three years.

ittakes2 · 03/08/2019 12:59

My son had one and then a second in the size up for emergencies/to move up to. Or sometimes I bought 1 new and a 2nd secondhand one for emergencies.

One. Good airing over the weekend and each half term it goes to the dry cleaner.

surreysnapper · 03/08/2019 19:57

Just the 1 here each year, with the previous year being held in reserve for energencies (apart from in year 7 obviously). They are expensive but machine washable so when DS got to the smelly stage it was out in the machine every Friday night so ready for Monday. Unfortunately a horrid shade of green though.

birthdayblues31 · 03/08/2019 20:07

One - it costs £85!

ImTheCaddy · 03/08/2019 21:00

One. Wash it every half term and it looks ok after a year. Will likely get another year out if it.

Sports kit more of a problem as it need washing basically overnight to get it back. So I'm going to buy a second one for this year.

MollyButton · 04/08/2019 09:01

1 - and when necessary I have washed and dried it over night.
Actually my youngest started out with a choice of about 4 - all secondhand from older siblings or a friends child had passed down.

MarchingFrogs · 04/08/2019 11:11

Zombie thread

True, but is that a real issue if the subject is a perennial one, not What do y'alll think of Kim Kardashian's choice of underwear for a day out at the 2016 Olympics? or something? (Genuinely curious about this Zombie thread thingSmile).

yikesanddang, certainly nearly all state school ones are washable, yes. Although I have no idea about the ones at the kind of state school that chooses to have £100+ blazers. DS2's are £50+ new, which is bad enough, but decent material which washes well and we have a second hand shop at the school.

So my answer to the original question is '1', washed half-termly or as required.
