1 or 2?

OP posts:

Ours cost £125, so I can't imagine anyone will have two...

(Private secondary but absolutely not fancy)

As others said, it operates as a manbag/pencil case/life support system so getting stuff out of the pockets to switch would be a bugger. It gets dry cleaned in the holidays and swooshed over with the steam iron thing once a week.

TeenAndTween · 04/07/2015 16:46

£125 ! Is it trimmed with gold thread ??

PandasRock · 04/07/2015 16:49

If only! Dd2's was £90 4 years ago, and in teeny reception size. She needs a new one for next year, and it is about £120. And then ds will need one the year after (new school badge means he can't use dd's old one despite perfect condition)

KayAdams · 04/07/2015 16:51

One.

PandasRock · 04/07/2015 16:52

Interestingly, the school response to complaints about the sports kit (HAS to be in school, in clean and ok condition, EVERY day, yet is not tumble dryable Hmm which makes it difficult to achieve in winter) is to buy two lots. Hahahahahahahahahahhaahha. The top is £45, hoodie £60, and the tracksuit (again, in smallest possible size which still doesn't even bloody fit dd2 - she's not that miniature!) is best part of £100. Let alone assorted sundries like games skirt, house too etc. no bloody way I'm buying two lots!

LynetteScavo · 04/07/2015 16:54

2, but only because he has DS1s old one as a spare.

Currently one is "Somewhere in school". Hmm

It wouldn't have occurred to me to buy two...DS2 didn't need to. They dry over night if you hang them up, as they are made from horrid nylon stuff.

Elibean · 04/07/2015 19:35

Just bought two, but one in the next size up. Reason being, they are dry clean only Hmm and dd tends to get very sweaty even with deodorant. But at least one will do when the other gets too small.

FretYeNotAllIsShiny · 04/07/2015 19:42

Mine have four between the two of them. Dd2 I think will only fit into one. Two of them are her y7 and y8 blazers. Dd3 got a new one to start the school in September. I wash them weekly at least and dry them on coat hangers.

TalkinPeace · 04/07/2015 19:49

One.
And as DS had to add stuff to his, it will last till he leaves.
He had one for yr 7,8,9 and one for yr 10,11

Leeds2 · 04/07/2015 22:34

DD had one in Year 7, which I bought to last her until Sixth Form! At the time, they didn't wear them every day.

Changed uniform, so bought one in Year 9 which lasted until the end of Year 11. Worn every day.

Bought one (different) blazer for Sixth Form. Again, worn every day.

Pebbles574 · 07/07/2015 13:28

A main one, and a spare which is usually a secondhand one from the PTA sale, as back up.

BabyGanoush · 07/07/2015 13:31
  1. Not washed it yet Shock

He wears a clean shirt every day though.

Never thought of washing a blazer! Do you all wash coats/jackets too?

It never occurredBlush to me

BabyGanoush · 07/07/2015 13:32

Panda, your kids must be at private school Grin

bryte · 07/07/2015 18:04

1

SandStorm · 07/07/2015 18:07

2 but only because one was her sister's and when she left we kept it as a spare. I'm hoping to get through 5 years on the one blazer with DD2 as DD1 managed it although DD2 doesn't seem to have stopped growing yet.

woodlands01 · 07/07/2015 18:19

Only need 1. Magic blazer material dries overnight if necessary as well as emerging from being squashed into the rucksack without a crease in sight!

fiercebadrabbit · 07/07/2015 21:32

Mine have one each and I stick them in the washing machine every now and then. They come out fine

pointythings · 07/07/2015 22:12

DD1 has 1 - it's her second as she outgrew hers last year, but her first lasted 2 years. DD2 will at some point have 2 - her current one and the one DD1 has outgrown, which I couldn't pass down as it was too big for DD2.

DD1's blazer still fits well and may last until the end of Yr11 - she's coming to the end of Yr9. They're good blazers, only £30-ish but they wash perfectly and lining and pockets stay intact.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 08/07/2015 23:34

One, because at £65 (state comp) any more would be silly. Washed every term or so but not worn in the summer. (They have blue polo shirts instead.)

Mumheart03 · 09/07/2015 12:22

DS has 1 - brought at the beginning of Y7 (from school) now leaving Y8 and it lasted all that time. In fact, apart from the fact that the arms are not so much long sleeve as 3/4 sleeve (not a good look on a teenage boy Grin ) it still has some life left. Just bought DS a new blazer ready for Y9 - hopefully this will last as well as the first!

slalomsuki · 09/07/2015 12:29

1 blazer per child and they have lasted either 1 year or 2 years depending on the child! Am about to replace them all and keep the old ones as spare Blazers for the future but am not sure they will fit much longer. One has been washed every week or so due to it being the goal post in a muddy football pitch over the winter.

Davros · 09/07/2015 16:14

babyganoush me too! Never thought s blazer could be washed and always take the one that DS has to the cleaners during holidays and half terms. I searched it for s washing label yesterday but couldn't find one. It's a bit knackered, after year 7 only, so I may try washing it as I might otherwise buy a new one anyway but was expensive, can't remember, around £80. I could cut the school badge off the current one and buy a cheaper one, heh heh

SwedishEdith · 09/07/2015 16:21

1 at a time - 2 over the course of the 5 years. Each one washed once or twice Blush

WankerDeAsalWipe · 09/07/2015 16:28

When I complained to the school about the quality and price of the blazers (they are an unusual colour so we have no choice) i got told that a blazer lasts around 3 years or more and then 2nd hand ones can be purchased via a parent. I'm not sure who these magical teenagers are that don't grow and manage to keep a blazer that looks at least acceptable after 3 years constant wear so it can be sold on, they are compulsary so it's not like they will have only been worn for a few days. Just been to buy DS1s new one for after the summer and had to get a 42L - he started the school 3 years ago in a 35R! - every old blazer has white worn areas on the elbows and shoulders (the blazer is blue) and some have grease stains and glue stains and DS2 managed to burn a hole in his in science! This is despite me washing them every few weeks in Summer and a bit less in Winter when they wear a jumper underneath.

BertrandRussell · 09/07/2015 19:03

Mine has one a year- but it's looking pretty tatty and small now. And I've just heard he's got a special prize giving with a whole lot of local dignitaries- so I might hav to buy him a new one now and hope he doesn't grow over th summer!
