Had a lovely day in Bath yesterday and luckily it was nice and cool in the Abbey. We are taking advantage of the fact that we don't have to stick to the school holidays anymore and are off to Florida next week - I think it will be a little bit cooler there than it is here!

circular · 01/07/2015 19:24

Still melting Littleham. Was actually loathed to leave nice air con building and brave the tubes.

Also thinking about DDs 18th. Not sure whether before or after the unmentionable the better of two evils.

Sassy are most of her friends gong a long way? DD saying their group determined to keep in touch, and meet up when they come home in the hols. Only time will tell.

Leeds2 · 01/07/2015 19:30

What are you doing for your DDs' 18ths? I think I would have it before results' day. Wouldn't want DD to be unhappy at her own party, or friends not to come because they were disappointed.

Littleham · 01/07/2015 19:32

I vote for before the never to be spoken day as at least hope remains. DD is celebrating her 18th with a meal for her close friends.

Luckily we are near the coast so have a nice breeze. The Tube must have been hellishly hot today.

DD just wants a small house party. Still saying after. I would prefer before, but that has its problems fitting in too.
Wasnt thinking so much as not feeling like celebrating (though a valid point) more that some may be at panic open days the weekend after.

Flipping roasting here in the East Mids Shock. 34° today; have just lounged around indoors with all windows open!

DS is 18 next week, doesn't want a party but is having a family meal out at a fave pub in the evening. Can't believe I'm going to be a parent of an adult!! Shock

sassymuffin · 01/07/2015 23:33

circular all DDs friends are going to different Unis the length and breadth of the country. I have told her to try to stay in touch with them as she will appreciate the company during the long holiday times at home but only time will tell.
DD and her boyfriend have decided to split up when they go their separate ways to Uni, that will be a wrench after two years together.
Loving the thunderstorms here tonight

Decorhate · 02/07/2015 06:33

Dd is slightly doing my head in at the moment... Didn't want to come on family holiday when I booked it. Said last weekend she had changed her mind. Now not sure again as it is later than she thought so will be even less potential time to work over the hols. Grr

MrsBartlet · 02/07/2015 06:52

Completely melted here. Spent a lot of the night awake as it was so hot.

I would vote for before results for your 18th parties as who knows what results day will bring.

We keep watching the weather forecast as dd's party is in the garden on Sunday. We have organised loads of decorations and we will have garden games out (table tennis; croquet; boules etc) as we have people from all ages coming (literally from 1 to 81 and including a fair few 18 year olds). We have my family and dh's family as well as dd's friends so we want to get them mixing. Other than our parents who have dinner together fairly regularly, most of our respective siblings have not seen one another since our wedding, which was 20 years ago yesterday! It is an afternoon tea garden party so there will be trestle tables with lots of cakes in cake stands, sandwiches; scones with jam & cream etc; prosseco; pimms; pink lemonade and pots of tea for every table. Dd wants to be a writer so we have a literary theme and she has made paper chains out of books and decorated jars with strips from books with a heart cut out - they will sit on top of old fashioned looking books in the centre of each table with flowers in them. She has also made large heart shaped confetti out of the pages of books to sprinkle over the tables.

We really need it not to rain or we will just be 40 people huddled under a very old tent thing which we have borrowed!

Horsemad · 02/07/2015 07:31

MrsB, the afternoon tea garden party sounds gorgeous with the literary theme! Smile

I hope the weather stays fine for you.

MrsBartlet · 02/07/2015 09:03

Thanks Horsemad - we have all fingers and toes crossed here!

Hope you have a lovely holiday NiceCardigan. I can't wait to be able to go outside of school holiday time!

Littleham · 02/07/2015 14:04

We all want to come! It sounds amazing.

It is raining and cool here in the SW now so maybe it is heading your way and will disappear by Sunday ready for your party.

Lol! I'll tell dd to make room for some mumsnetters at her party, shall I? Wink

Leeds2 · 02/07/2015 16:40

Would you consider posting some photos, MrsB? It sounds like something my own DD would love, but unlikey to happen in her case as her birthday is in March!

MrsBartlet · 02/07/2015 17:45

Of course - I'll see if I can work out how to do it after the party. Dd's birthday was in May and I wouldn't have risked doing this then but as she didn't want to celebrate it then as she was revising we thought it was a good excuse to have a summer party for her. It is raining very heavily as I type Sad

Leeds2 · 02/07/2015 18:42

Hope the forecast is good for Sunday.

Horsemad · 04/07/2015 22:50

Oh my poor DS Sad he did his first day of his diving course today and we went off shopping whilst he did it (all day course). When we went to collect him, they'd tried to contact us because he's been violently sick Shock unfortunately, they'd been calling his mobile which he didn't have with him and our landline - nobody at home! The poor lad had to sit it out until we turned up.
Luckily, they can fit him on another course tomorrow, so back we go...
We suspect he didn't leave enough time between eating his lunch and swimming 8 lengths Envy - puke emoticon!!! He'd had a fizzy drink too, which probably didn't help Hmm

I'm knackered now, so early(ish) night for me! Smile

seimum · 05/07/2015 15:04

Got back from holiday yesterday - had a lovely time in the Yorkshire Dales & not too hot.
Found that DS's prom had gone well - except that DD2 had scratched DD1's car while taking him there (standoff in narrow country lane with van & hedge). Luckily they are fine scratches and DH is getting DD2 to polish them out this afternoon.
DS's final music concert tonight.

Hope the weather is keeping fine for you Mrs B

Horsemad · 05/07/2015 18:04

First part (again!) of diving course went well, so onto Part 2 next week.

Hope you've had sun MrsB. It's rained here - all over my washing that I pegged out this morning, grrrr!

MrsBartlet · 06/07/2015 10:10

Hope your ds is ok now Horsemad.

It rained all morning yesterday and then it stopped about an hour and a half before dd's party started and it all went very well - in dd's words it was "perfect!" The highlight was when dh played his guitar and sang a song to her the wrote about the dc when they were little. There were a few tears shed!

As you asked Leeds2 here are some photos for you! Hope this works as I haven't posted photos before!

Mrs B
That looks fantastic. I am not surprised she thought it was perfect.
