I hope that's true Seimum - although it shouldn't be!

Fairenuff · 17/08/2015 14:07

Horsemad she's going to Southampton too. Let's hope they don't end up sharing a kitchen, they'll never manage Grin

Grin Fairenuff, that would be funny if they did!

Does anyone have a dc or someone they know going to Leeds? Dd is adamant there is nothing she needs to do to positively accept her place. Haven't heard anything about accommodation yet so starting to worry she has overlooked something. Which would be all I need right now!

Happy36 · 17/08/2015 21:32

I have a student going to Leeds; I will ask her what she's doing. She's super organised.

Decorhate · 17/08/2015 23:04

Thanks!

Mindgone · 18/08/2015 01:16

Hellsbells, that's fab, well done to your DD2!
Decorhate, DS1 will be going into his second year at Leeds, but I can't remember what he had to do! I know that this time last year he was finding flat mates on Facebook! He was an unconditional, so I don't know if that made a difference. In your place, I would be tempted to ring the uni, and ask how much info he should have. These boys can be so dizzy! Smile

mrsrhodgilbert · 18/08/2015 15:00

I have a dd going to Leeds. She had her accommodation confirmed over the weekend and we have returned the contract, payment schedule and £200 deposit.

I'm not aware of having to officially accept the offer. She as received an email today welcoming her and pointing out things she will need to do over the coming weeks.

Decorhate · 18/08/2015 15:47

Thanks for that. I'm going to get my dd to double check she got a confirmation when she applied a few months ago

Mumslife DD completed her acceptance a few days ago and was only asked for card details to take the 3 payments from, first being mid-Oct. No prepayment for first year students required.
Think it may depend on accommodation type - might be just the private halls asking for deposit?

basildonbond · 18/08/2015 19:27

We had to pay £300 for catered halls for Exeter - the deposit was due immediately, first tranche of rent at the end of September

cathcustard · 18/08/2015 19:40

We've just paid £300 too basildon. DS was excited about getting his choice but just read a load of negative reviews.

stonecircle · 18/08/2015 19:54

DS still hasn't heard about accommodation for Exeter. I'm starting to worry that he didn't apply properly and is going to end up in a grotty bedsit on the outskirts of town ....

Which residence got negative reviews Cathcustard?

stonecircle · 18/08/2015 19:55

.... at least continuing to worry about DS2 is taking my mind off DS3's GCSE results on Thursday .....

cathcustard · 18/08/2015 20:02

Don't worry stone, they're doing it by block according to DS. One of his friends heard yesterday, one hasn't heard yet.
He's going into Duryard.

NiceCardigan · 18/08/2015 21:23

Neither DD1 or DD2 paid anything for accommodation until they had actually started at uni and there loans had come though (UEA and Bath). DD2 had to pay a deposit of £250 to secure her uni accommodation for this Sept for her masters so it just depends on where you are going.

MrsBartlet · 18/08/2015 21:38

We have just paid £1600 to dd's college at Cambridge which will get taken off her final third year bill! On the upside we don't have to pay her accommodation bill until January for the first term and it is relatively cheap.

Dd is ecstatic as she has just found out she has her first choice accommodation with an en-suite. The second years are being great and have organised a spreadsheet on googledocs with all the rooms listed and people are filling in which room they are in so that they can the contact people on their corridor on facebook. Also, the second year English students have been chatting to the new English students on fb and advising on reading lists etc - very helpful Smile

welshpixie · 18/08/2015 22:34

We paid 250 deposit for Leicester, got confirmation today that they received the cheque we sent because DHs stupid card rarely works online. First instalment is due before her loan comes through, so bank of Mum and Dad to the rescue.

basildonbond · 18/08/2015 23:17

Ds is in Ransom Pickard - a less than lovely annexe but it's on campus, he's got his own room (not en suite though as we wouldn't shell out for the rather large difference in price) and it's catered which means we know he's not going to starve or get scurvy (fingers crossed Wink)

I think you'll find negative reviews about everywhere tbh - and frankly once da has been living there for more than a week his room will look pretty grotty wherever he is Hmm

Horsemad · 19/08/2015 00:18

First years don't have to pay a deposit at Soton. First payment 12/10/15. He's got his first choice, brand new building but crikey, it looks small Hmm

Mindgone · 19/08/2015 00:43

Welshpixie, DS is going to Leicester too! He wanted self catered but got catered! Is your DD happy with hers?
