Tonight was leavers ball for both DTs, yesterday was dd's prize day/leavers celebrations and today was ds's. I will never have to be at either school again. I no longer have school children, wow.
Both celebrations were really lovely , and I may have had a tear in my eye.

hellsbells99 · 28/06/2015 07:51

MrsB - sorry your DD missed her prom. I hope she is better now.
DD has her leavers do next week. She is away with friends at the moment so I am getting a break from the constant partying! She has sent me a very short text everyday just so I know she is okay.

Decorhate · 28/06/2015 08:37

Can I ask if your dcs are planning to work this summer? My dd has a couple of trips planned with friends. And has now announced she would like to come on our family holiday after all Hmm Not sure any employer is going to be interested in having her under those circumstances!

hellsbells99 · 28/06/2015 08:40

Decorate - DD has some work lined up in July but will then be away again for a 2/3 weeks. I am hoping she may get some work after that before she goes to uni if she gets her grades

AtiaoftheJulii · 28/06/2015 08:44

Yes, dd1 should be working - it'll be as an office dogsbody where dh works, so will be pretty relaxed about time off, but she doesn't have too much planned.

Decorhate · 28/06/2015 09:25

The problem is dd didn't have a Sat job due to having to do lots of voluntary work for her Uni application. So I think will be hard persuading a new employer to take her on. Any ideas?

hellsbells99 · 28/06/2015 09:29

Decorate - her best bet would probably be casual work at a local hotel - functions etc.

AtiaoftheJulii · 28/06/2015 09:31

Could she just sign up with a temp agency and give them the dates she's available? I don't really know if temping is quite the same now as it was when I was young!

Thanks, hellsbells. She is still ill (just a bad cold) but not at all bothered about missing prom as she really didn't feel well enough for it.

Decorhate we are in a similar position to you. Dd didn't have a Saturday job as too much extra work to do for her Cambridge application but she needs work for August and September. She is off on holiday with her best friend on 7th July then gets back in time to do her washing and come on holiday with us. Our holiday will be finished on 31st July so it does give her 2 unbroken months in which to work but who knows where. She was supposed to be looking for work this week but as she has been ill that has gone out the window!

We are busily preparing for the vintage garden party/afternoon tea that she is having next weekend as a belated 18th celebration. Very much hoping that everyone is well for it and the weather is kind to us!

muffinmonster · 28/06/2015 11:19

Decorhate and MrsB, DD is also in the same position (wouldn't tconsider a Saturday job before because it would interfere with her studies) and has a trip planned in july plus one week family holiday. I think I will encourage her to try McDonald's - there's one very near us.

MrsB, hope your DD's party goes well.

Thanks muffinmonster and mumslife - should be out doing the weeding now to make my garden look vaguely respectable for next week but it won't stop raining!

Sorry your dd's headaches are back mumslife. The glasses do seem to have made a massive difference to my dd although I do think anxiety played its part too.

The vintage party sounds lovely MrsB. Hope it goes well.

Could the headaches be sleep related Mumslife? It seemed to affect her during revision and if she is staying up late for parties / taking off her glasses it could be making her get tension headaches.

I only have ds at home (as he is in school). The girls have all gone to enjoy the seaside with their grandparents. Smile

DS hasn't unplugged himself from his PC since he finished his exams! Shock Was going to do paintballing for his 18th but has since changed his mind and nothing arranged atm.

I'm hoping he's going to shift himself to look for work for Aug/Sept as he's certainly not just sitting in his room all day. Hmm

circular · 29/06/2015 21:28

Party sounds great Mrs B, hope your DDs feeling better and they all have a great time.

DD still has her own 18th to come, probably looking at small house party, or maybe even in the garden if we can risk the weather. Falls a bit before the unmentionable date so not sure whether best to wait till after.

Still very busy, prom, 4 performances and at least one 18th in the space of about 10 days coming up. Then has taken on some extra shifts at p/t job where she only usually does 2 half days. Think she has agreed to 8 or 9 days on the trot, but all only 3 to 5 hour shifts. Also never did Saturdays (music school) so was lucky enough to find a job that fit in at start of yr13. She was actually hoping to start last summer, but such a lengthy interview process, ended up being September.

Good luck to all those looking for work. I think if DD had been desparate enough to want to work last summer, would have signed up with some temp agencies, hoping for some waitressing or similar.

NiceCardigan · 30/06/2015 08:29

We're in Bath at the moment for DD2's graduation later on today it looks like it's going to very hot. DS stayed at DD2's student house with her last night so I'm hoping he looks presentable when we go and get them. The little break away has been nice because DS has been so grumpy lately - I think he's making sure I'll be happy to see him leave home in the Autumn!

Horsemad · 30/06/2015 09:02

Have a lovely day NiceCardigan! Smile

Littleham · 30/06/2015 11:33

Have a great day NiceCardigan. I was at a party in Bath on Saturday. It is so lovely. Smile

If you need somewhere quiet and shady go to The Assembly Rooms (free) at the top of the hill and there is a quiet café / toilets in the same building.

Hope you all had a lovely day NiceCardigan. I love Bath - one of my favourite places.

sassymuffin · 01/07/2015 15:31

DD has been very lucky and her Saturday job have offered her full time work until she leaves for Uni. She has prom on Friday and is really looking forward to it.

DD is also making more of an effort to see her friends socially as she realizes that there are some girls she will probably never see again. She experienced going into work with a raging hangover for the first ever time last week and was outraged at the lack of sympathy she received from myself and DP Grin

Littleham · 01/07/2015 17:00

Now organising dd's 18th birthday as she is pretty much the youngest in her year.

Hope everyone is doing ok. Anyone from the SE must have melted today.
