OOOH I live in Leeds (and I'm a medic).
It's FAB!!!
She will love it here so whether those extra UMS turn up or not she will have a great Uni experience.

Decorhate · 15/08/2015 09:14

That's good to know Cathy.I'm confident she will have a great experience at Leeds. I suspect she would have found Oxford life a bit limited after a year or two. She likes big lively cities.

MrsBartlet · 15/08/2015 09:17

NiceCardigan - so 2 exam boards with problems! Dd's friends got Us in part of their A2s (not sure if it was the exam or coursework). These are bright girls so it is all very strange. At least they are bright enough that they did well enough in the other part to pull the grade up overall and still meet their offers.

Best of luck to all those still waiting.

bruffin · 15/08/2015 09:17

violets Grin they get there in the end even if they drive us mad while we are getting there.

Congratuations to everyone who got their place and commiserations to those who didnt, but these things often work out for the best, even if does seem like the end of the world to them at the moment, and good luck to those who are still waiting.

My hives have finally started to go down. DD didnt do brilliantly in her AS but that was a long story and she has to make her mind up what she wants to do as there are several options.

DH got the job, phone call didnt come through until 4.30 on friday grrr. DS is taking his driving theory test at this moment, so fingers crossed he will pass.

Decorhate · 15/08/2015 09:22

Oh bugger. Just realised we didn't get dd a congratulations card. Luckily my parents/siblings are more obsessive about that & have sent some!

bruffin · 15/08/2015 09:26

Dont worry Dcorhate, we havent either and feel guilty because his gf parents left a bottle of fizzy in their fridge for him.

I have ordered him this mug as a prezzy

Decorhate · 15/08/2015 09:36

As soon as I posted that I had a vague recollection of being organised & buying a card before we went on holidays. Of course it's taken me 10 minutes to find the safe place I put it!

Decorhate · 15/08/2015 09:41

As an ex-engineer I love the mug!

bruffin · 15/08/2015 10:13

DS failed his theory test by 1 mark on the hazaards but did well on the questions.

BlueStringPudding · 15/08/2015 10:17

Good luck to all those awaiting re-marks. DD1 had a paper remarked last year and it pushed her grade up from a mid A to an A* and just 2 marks off full UMS and I think an increase of around 14 UMS.

The year before she'd had an AS paper re-marked to try find one extra point to get her an A, but it came back as no change.

One of DD2's papers this year had a much lower mark than she was expecting, she doesn't need it as has got her place, but she will probably request a copy of the script to take a look and see if it is worth requesting a re-mark. Only worth doing if it would nudge her up a grade though.

eatyourveg · 15/08/2015 10:44

Remarks are always worth it when a score looks unusual. 3 years ago ds1's remark on an AQA English paper went up 50 ums from a U to a B. His firm had accepted him anyway but his overall grade went up so he decided to ask to be released and traded up after a gap year.

Horsemad · 15/08/2015 10:46

DS has just accepted his Chemistry offer from Southampton.

AtiaoftheJulii · 15/08/2015 11:13

How are you feeling about that Horsemad? Really hope it works out for him x

Decorhate my dd's insurance was Leeds, and she's almost missing the idea of going there, she loves the uni and the city. Hope you and cathy don't have to wait too long for the remark results x

Horsemad · 15/08/2015 11:27

Weepy Atia - it's the relief we finally have a decision I think! It's been a horrible few days & although if he'd worked harder he'd have saved himself (and us!) the stress - he's been between a rock and a hard place with a great offer at a good Uni but not what he originally applied for and couldn't go through Clearing unless he relinquished his offer which would be madness due to his grades.
I didn't even realise they could make alternative offers

Anyway, he's happy he's accepted, so that's good. Time to get planning what he's taking now! Smile

MyPelvicFloorTrainsItself · 15/08/2015 12:58

Congratulations Horsemad, I'm glad he's chosen Brew

gonegrey56 · 15/08/2015 13:13

Horsemad - you said in your original post about your son's results that he was really good at Chemistry - I suspect that time will show that he is now on the correct course for him,and he will flourish and enjoy it.

I have really felt for you over the last few days ( I went through all this 2 years ago,and my dd went somewhere she felt very ambivalent about - however, she now could not be happier).

Onwards and upwards!

TongueBiter · 15/08/2015 13:38

Anyone else's DC going to UWE?

Horsemad · 15/08/2015 13:42

Thanks MyPelvicFloor & gonegrey56 Smile He's been busy checking out various clubs and societies and has registered for a Tesco Club card!!! Confused

Fairenuff · 15/08/2015 13:59

Oh Horsemad I'm so glad he's managed to come to a decision, he will have a fab time and he's obviously a natural at chemistry so will probably find a great fun/work balance! Smile

bruffin I was inspired by that mug and have now bought a little selection of novelty gifts relating to dd's subjects as a 'well done' hamper. It will take a few days to arrive/put together but will be a nice surprise for her.

NiceCardigan · 15/08/2015 14:08

It must be a relief that he's chosen Horsemad and you can get on with getting organised.

DS is keen he has the preliminary reading list now and has already dragged me round Waterstones.

Thanks everyone, I am very relieved now! Smile

seimum · 15/08/2015 17:29

Bruffin - love the mug. Maybe will get it for DS when he arrives at uni.

Horsemad - glad that your DS has decided. Hope it works out well for him

bruffin · 15/08/2015 17:55

You can get a t shirt as well, be careful there are a lot with the americanism of math instead of maths.

horsemad hope it works out for your ds

Horsemad · 15/08/2015 18:28

Thank you seimum and bruffin. Smile

I've been browsing the internet for some Chemistry themed gifts for him, I like the idea of a hamper, might do that for Uni Smile
