Tonguebiter - yes. Does your DC have accommodation?

AmazingDisgrace · 16/08/2015 01:26

Anyone else looked at the raw and ums scores? DD was 1 mark off the A in Philosophy and 2 in Geography Solid B in History after the resit on one paper went from a low C to an A. Given that she was ill with a horrid lung inflammation throughout, I'm bloody proud of her!

Amazing, your DD's marks are impressive! Bet she's pleased?

Mumslife, was there a reason the teacher was absent a lot? I do think it's unfair for the kids to be left to their own devices durin A levels, although it shows your DD is very motivated and she'll do well at Uni where they have to do a lot of self study Smile

Dd was predicted AAB and got AAA so she exceeded hers mumslife. She could have gone to adjustment but is happy with her first choice uni anyway so didn't. Accommodation is booked! It's all very real now isn't it.

Horsemad has your ds applied for accommodation yet?

Congratulations to everyone, and sympathies to those who've had to wait for confirmation of offers/clearing etc.

I'm off over to the 'getting ready for uni' thread now. Time to start compiling checklists!

Horsemad · 16/08/2015 14:49

Fairenuff, as he is going to what would have been his firm Uni, I think his accommodation choices stay the same as when he first chose them (I will def check this!)

He's chosen all uncatered, (had 5 choices) so will need to learn how to cook a few dishes before he goes! Smile

basildonbond · 16/08/2015 15:57

Ooh does anyone know if Exeter offers cash for exceeding their offer? Ds smashed his offer by 5 IB points (and was 3 points above his predicted score) - not sure who was more surprised, him or us Grin

cathcustard · 16/08/2015 16:07

I have the same question basildon. DS's offer was AAA & he got an extra * so I rather doubt it.

When i asked him he said it was an incentive for students not to go into adjustment.

stonecircle · 16/08/2015 17:55

I suspect the cash offer is from universities that need to market themselves a bit more to fill up their places. DS had an unconditional from Sussex, plus an offer of £3k if he got his predicted AAA (he got AAB so presumably wouldn't have got the cash anyway if he'd gone there). I notice that his course at Sussex is in clearing at the moment. I don't think Exeter needs to encourage applicants - one of his friends has missed a place there having got AAB instead of AAA or AAB.

JWIM · 16/08/2015 18:00

I, too, have enjoyed the camaraderie of this thread. Best of luck to all DC off to university in the next few weeks. I'm sure the uni thread will be just as helpful.

DD has a gap year now and her 2016 offer has been confirmed so it will be next year's uni thread to me.

Fairenuff · 16/08/2015 19:26

Yes mumslife she was told at the time that if she exceeded her offer she would automatically get a scholarship so she has already secured that.

Horsemad dd is going self catering too. She says she's going to live off cornflakes Hmm

Knowing her, she will attach herself to someone who can cook and will scrounge persuade them to make a bit extra for her. That's what she usually does at home anyway. Actually, she can cook, she's just a mooch. Hopefully independant living will change that a bit Grin

basildonbond · 16/08/2015 20:54

I think you're right stone - ds knows two people with AAA offers for history who got rejected with AAB :(

Horsemad · 16/08/2015 21:08

Fairenuff, where is your DD going to Uni? DS will probably do the same and live off cereal, he eats tonnes of the stuff here!

HocusUcas · 16/08/2015 22:06

Another one saying all the best to all. This has been such a supportive and lovely thread. Wave to Littleham and best of luck to her dd.

Off to starting Uni thread - but seriously , best of luck to all your DCs. Perhaps a "Class of 15" thread in 10 years time ad see how they are all doing Smile. And I bet it is quite well.

AtiaoftheJulii · 16/08/2015 22:34

I'll second that Smile Thanks for helping me stay sane this last year!

I think I have posted a lot too mumslife!
Good luck to all our DCs in whatever they have chosen to do post A levels and thanks for everyone's support though A levels and results.
I have now got to get DD2 to sort out her personal statement .......

Mindgone · 17/08/2015 10:03

How did your DD2 get on Hellsbells? What did she decide to apply for in the end?

Best of luck to all from me too! I have loved having daily updates on how everyone's doing, you have helped to preserve my sanity! Smile

hellsbells99 · 17/08/2015 12:18

Hi Mindgone. DD2 did well but hasn't got a high enough UMS for Cambridge which I am glad about as it would not have suited her. She is applying for engineering and has decided she definitely wants to apply for a course that has a placement year.

seimum · 17/08/2015 12:57

Hellsbells - My DD1 applied for Physics a few years back. She was concerned about her personal statement, but her careers teacher's comment was "You're a girl and you want to do Physics - they won't even look at your personal statement!".

I suspect the same applies to girls applying for engineering - which branch is she thinking of going for?

Best of luck to everyone - see you on the uni prep thread
