They made the grades but not high enough UMS?!?! Surely that can't be right.
We'll get on to Bristol as soon as she's up! Don't think she can accept and apply for accom. until Cambridge reject her though. I've planned a day trip to Bristol early next week, to remind her how much she loved it and to suck up relentlessly to the accommodation officers!!! Grin

Hang on in there horsemad Flowers
My Ds spoke with his college today and is now much more positive about going to his insurance - he is looking at freshers activities and joining FB groups etc
He and I do wish he had chosen a different firm though as it seems harsh that they rejected him (seeing as he overachieved in one subject but missed in another- UCAS points were unchanged) but that's life. I'm now hoping that he understands that he can no longer coast in his studies and actually needs to work!! Basically I'm hoping this minor setback helps him grow up a bit.

cathyandclaire · 14/08/2015 13:24

DD had a lovely chat with admissions and accommodation at Bristol, they were friendly, helpful and reassuring. She has until 31st to apply for guaranteed accommodation and they will hold her place until Cambridge reject her.
Everything feel a little better now :)

Great news Cathy. Pleased to hear that Smile

Waiting - our 6th Form Head called today as he could see that DS hasn't yet accepted his alternative offer and he said quite a few of the year had had the same problem - overachieving in one subject, underachieving in another but UCAS points unchanged and had missed their firm as a result. I think it's really unfair.

I really hope my DS has learnt a hard lesson from these results.

seimum · 14/08/2015 14:21

waiting Glad your DS is happy with his insurance (York, was it?).

I too hope my DS has learnt the importance of work. It's quite difficult for those kids who find most subjects relatively easy until quite a late stage in their education (for my DD1, it was not until her 2nd year at uni)

Cathy - glad your DD has been reassured by Bristol. Coping with the uncertainty is so hard.

Littleham · 14/08/2015 16:02

Jut wishing everyone good luck for the future. It has been a great pleasure to talk to you all.

DS said that school are asking for a remark of all the English coursework as everyone went down by two grades. DS got an A overall with over 90% on the written exam but a B in the coursework. Not sure what went on but the English department are very cautious about grades and DS had been told to expect a high A. One girl needs a quick remark because her uni place depends on it but the rest won't be done as quickly.

Well I came to the party late but found great reassurance on here so thank you! What uni support thread?

MrsBartlet · 14/08/2015 20:34

Which board was it NiceCardigan? Dd was ok but quite a few of the others had very unexpected results. They did Edexcel.

NiceCardigan · 14/08/2015 20:42

It was WJEC MrsBartlet

other thread is here

Out of interest, is out Bristol who are keeping people hanging on?

My nephew missed his offer but they wouldn't give him an answer, every time he phoned to ask if they had any news he was told to call back in two hours. In the meantime he couldn't go through clearing as he was not officially in the system.

They said when he called at 5 he would have an answer by 7. They didn't reject him until almost 6pm. Other unis he was calling either weren't able to help as he had no clearing number or said they had filled all their places Shock

He had a stressful day made even more difficult by them. Thankfully he did find a place but I certainly don't want DS applying there next year.

hellsbells99 · 14/08/2015 23:50

York also keeping someone we know hanging on Sad

cathyandclaire · 15/08/2015 07:48

It was Cambridge that left Dd hanging, it's tough because where there's life there's hope but equally you need to get everything sorted.
Bristol is still undecided on a friend of ours (right tariff but wrong grade spread.)

We have been ordering bedding for halls, lovely feel good activity worry about the bills later

MyPelvicFloorTrainsItself · 15/08/2015 08:02

Has she heard yet from Cambridge Cathy? If not I really hope she gets her place.

Waiting is so stressful.

voilets · 15/08/2015 08:18

Just want to say, I've found this thread so helpful over the months.

Changed my mumsnet name a few times but have been here.

My DS has finally bagged his preferred course and uni after a gap year. Very similar story to bruffin here. DS has matured so much in a year.

Need to Ds to check out those fresher pages now.

Mumsnet has halped so much in me getting him those needed experiences for his uni application. Has been brilliant.

Decorhate · 15/08/2015 08:21

There's an article in the Guardian today saying Bristol has had major technical problems, hence the delays in releasing people to clearing

cathyandclaire · 15/08/2015 08:26

Well done to your DS Violets, this thread has been wonderful whether lurking or posting it has been a huge support.
Cambridge have said she needs to meet the offer, so needs another mark in English, fingers crossed.
Dd is better now though, she admitted that she preferred the Bristol course and thought she would probably love it there and maybe have a better time, it's just that Cambridge is Cambridge.
We're focussing on Bristol, getting everything sorted for there. Her English mark seems pretty fair, so another mark is unlikely. Her drama was absurdly and inexplicably low (along with her whole talented and hard working class) but unlikely to go up to an A* unless they left out a whole essay!

Decorhate · 15/08/2015 08:50

That's exactly how my dd feels Cathy. She loved Leeds & it would have been her first choice if she hadn't had an unexpected offer from Oxford. And Leeds will give much more clinical experience from early on.
