I'm feeling very churned up Acatcalledfluffy Sad

MarianneSolong · 12/08/2015 17:38

Daughter was crying again this morning. (Something to do with checking grade boundaries.) I hate it when she cries, while realising it is a useful way of releasing stress. Both of us are now more composed.

GypsyFloss · 12/08/2015 17:46

Busy day at work and now I'm home and want to go to bed so that I can wake up tomorrow and it will be almost over.

Fairenuff · 12/08/2015 17:47

Dd has just left for work so that will keep her busy this evening. Then it's just bed and hopefully sleep. One thing is certain, tomorrow will be an emotional day, one way or the other. Good luck to everyone, not long to wait now.

Littleham · 12/08/2015 17:56

Clearing is open!

Thinking of everyone and the sleepless night ahead. My DD1 has an unconditional so less stress for us but it still could all go horribly wrong Smile

Acatcalledfluffy · 12/08/2015 18:03

Is it too early for Wine

Happy36 · 12/08/2015 18:09

Good luck to everyone!

I am a teacher, not an A Level parent, (10 years to go; bet they´ll fly by!) I am also feeling very nervous and have stupidly just drunk a mugful of my mother-in-law´s excellent coffee so certainly no sleep for me tonight.

All of you are, of course, very well organised, and your posts reflect this. Please may I remind you to have the various telephone numbers and websites ready for tomorrow? I recommend copying down telephone numbers, plus any key instructions on UCAS, student finance or university websites, onto a sheet of paper, as, predictably, the webpages will have thousands of users trying to access them simultaneously in the morning. Trying to get onto a website that won´t load just to get a phone number is unnecessary and stressful! Again, good luck to all.

Horsemad · 12/08/2015 18:10

Pass the bottle Acat!!

Horsemad · 12/08/2015 18:12

DS's firm in in Clearing for his subject, his insurance isn't. Really really hoping he hasn't cocked up with his grades and that they are lenient if he has Hmm

Littleham · 12/08/2015 18:17

DD's firm isn't in clearing for her subject (but her insurance is there) so she is busy creating a detailed spreadsheet of alternatives. Thanks for the tip Happy - she is now adding phone numbers in case the websites crash tomorrow.

How do you find out if a course is in clearing?

Thanks Happy, will do that.

hellsbells99 · 12/08/2015 18:32

DD's firm & insurance are in clearing ....fingers crossed for all our DCs.
DD2's AS results are taking a back seat at the moment.
I have friends coming round for a drink bottle to take my mind off things; DD1 is off out for a meal with friends; DD2 has a friend coming round to rehearse for a gig.
DD1 is ready for clearing - key details written down.

Acatcalledfluffy · 12/08/2015 18:32

What does it mean if their firm offer is in clearing? Is it a good thing? Does it mean they have a better chance of getting in if they don't get the exact grades? Confused.

hellsbells99 · 12/08/2015 18:33

We have used the Telegraph Clearing App Fairenuff

Littleham · 12/08/2015 18:37

or use this ucas clearing search site (check the clearing 2015 box)

search.ucas.com/

muffinmonster · 12/08/2015 18:40

Confused about clearing. I'e looked up a few vacancies on the uCAS website and then clicked through to the university website for more details, but the entry requirements seem to be the same as they always were. I thought they would drop for clearing?

Littleham · 12/08/2015 18:43

They do drop but universities don't like to advertise by how much so you won't see much in writing. Always get your dc to ring and give it a go.

Feeling strangely emotional and churned up here, too Acatcalledfluffy and Horsemad. Just driven back from Norfolk and everything on the radio was making me well up.

Dd and I watched GBBO for the first time ever last week. I suspect we will watch that tonight to take our minds off of tomorrow. Her friends are still here at the moment. They were in the garden playing a strange game of catch when I got in - I guess they have a lot of adrenalin to use up Grin

cathyandclaire · 12/08/2015 18:49

Tears here too, DD not me but I'm holding them back.
She's got friends here to watch GBBO and we're off with DD2 for supper and wine no doubt
DH is up at 5am for a meeting so I will be pacing and panicking for a good three hours before track/results go online.

Happy36 · 12/08/2015 18:58

Sorry for the dumb question. I used the link in Littleham ´s post (thank you) and found the desired course. How can I tell if it is in Clearing?

Littleham · 12/08/2015 19:02

Just tick the left hand box (for Clearing 2015 - see below) and type in the course you are interested in.

Search courses available in*: X Clearing 2015 X 2015 X 2016

Happy36 · 12/08/2015 19:12

Perfect, thanks Littleham.

I was being dim! Luckily, I am not a university applicant myself. Blush

Acatcalledfluffy · 12/08/2015 19:16

Sorry for repeating myself but it is good if the courses are in clearing? Just trying to cheer myself up.

Happy36 · 12/08/2015 19:24

Fluffy It´s neither good nor bad. There are all sorts of reasons why the course could be in clearing. Mostly just down to admin. and the university applications cycle (e.g. Scotland, IB students and others have already had their results so UCAS and the universities have adjusted the number of places still available, accordingly. But there are other reasons too).
