In March they sent a letter awarding her full maintenance grant. They recently asked me and my husband for proof of income - which in both cases was quite complicated to supply - and they didn't give us long to do this - but we duly sent everything they asked for in time. This afternoon a new letter for my daughter arrived chopping £4,000 of the grant.
My daughter started crying.
Then she rang them. They said she had to apply all over again, and they might be able to process it all over again in time. But then they might not
I rang them - and after going through all the security checks, they said I'd given all the correct info, but my daughter still had to apply over again because something was wrong. (We had a low income but for some reason they'd put down that we had a high one.) Yes we might have supplied all the right information first time round, and it might be their error, but that was how it was. We could always complain if we liked.
I asked to speak to whoever was in charge there, rather than being sent a complaint form. Eventually the supervisor ended up speaking to my husband. It turned out that they had interpreted the financial information he had sent wrongly, but they kept asking that he filled out the same forms all over again. In the end we half or three-quarters won the battle. That is my daughter doesn't have to reapply, I don't have to send any more info, but my husband will fill in a further online form about his income.
