Fighting to stay optimistic here, and hoping that the Mail article means more conditional offer holders (including those with missed grades) have been accepted.

cathyandclaire Your DDs plan looks great but could fall apart if she needs to make phone calls and does not have enough time to get through with lines being so busy.

Would work be understanding if she had to withdraw from induction at short notice, should it come to that?

Horsemad · 11/08/2015 08:21

I'm outwardly calm but my mind is racing. DS appears really composed - he keeps his feelings under wraps though, so no idea what he's thinking. Hmm

MarianneSolong · 11/08/2015 08:53

I don't think I care that much. Mainly I'd like to know where my daughter is going. I'd like her to feel proud and happy about what she's achieved - and I think she can do that whatever her exact final grades are.

Even if something's gone a bit AWOL, it would be good to be in a position to start making alternative plans. (In that case, I think her teachers would give initial advice re clearing etc. They're very used to mobilising people.) But the probability that she'd get one of the two offers is high unless strange things have happened in the marking) I'll just be around for whatever happens.

Horsemad · 11/08/2015 08:58

The not knowing is the worst isn't it Marianne?

muffinmonster · 11/08/2015 09:09

Never read the Daily Mail. Everything in it is designed to make you feel helpless and/or angry.

I have a wonderful extension on my Chrome browner called Tea and Kittens. Whenever you click on a link to a Daily Mail article instead it brings up a picture of kittens and tea (the clue's in the name) giving you a chance to repent your hasty clicking and navigate your way back to sanity.

That said, it does't work on the iPad, so I did take a sneaky look at the article. Blush

The Daily Mail is full of shit.

Katkat50 · 11/08/2015 12:17

Horsemad, same same. I know my DS doesn't want to discuss Thursday, so my feelings say I need to share his optimism that all will be fine on the day. My realistic head wants to work on alternatives just in case.

Littleham · 11/08/2015 13:55

I really need that tea and kittens extension muffin. Smile I'm hoping it is all rubbish YoureAllABunch.

My dd's sixth form doesn't allow pupils back for a re-sit year. Is that standard? I'm guessing it is lack of funding.

Go to www.teaandkittens.co.uk/ and click on the button that says 'Other stuff'. It's available for Chrome and Firefox.

Horsemad · 11/08/2015 16:31

DS has said he can't go back for an extra year Littleham. I haven't actually checked if this is the case though.
I know last year they allowed quite a few who'd flunked AS to start Yr12 over again. DS's AS weren't bad enough to do that though apparently. Hmm

Ds went back as a guest pupil as he wasnt doing enough hours for funding. He wasnt officially there but was allowed to attend classes and be on the premises and even helped teaching .

Littleham · 11/08/2015 17:56

Ah now I understand. I'll keep the phantom pupil request in mind if this happens to any of my dc. Thanks for the tip.

Forgot to say we had to pay for his exams

MarianneSolong · 11/08/2015 18:26

Was feeling relatively chilled. But daughter then received letter from Student Finance. An hour later and we're all feeling somewhat fraught!

basildonbond · 11/08/2015 19:54

Is everything ok with your dd's finance then?

MarianneSolong · 11/08/2015 20:17

In March they sent a letter awarding her full maintenance grant. They recently asked me and my husband for proof of income - which in both cases was quite complicated to supply - and they didn't give us long to do this - but we duly sent everything they asked for in time. This afternoon a new letter for my daughter arrived chopping £4,000 of the grant.

My daughter started crying.

Then she rang them. They said she had to apply all over again, and they might be able to process it all over again in time. But then they might not

I rang them - and after going through all the security checks, they said I'd given all the correct info, but my daughter still had to apply over again because something was wrong. (We had a low income but for some reason they'd put down that we had a high one.) Yes we might have supplied all the right information first time round, and it might be their error, but that was how it was. We could always complain if we liked.

I asked to speak to whoever was in charge there, rather than being sent a complaint form. Eventually the supervisor ended up speaking to my husband. It turned out that they had interpreted the financial information he had sent wrongly, but they kept asking that he filled out the same forms all over again. In the end we half or three-quarters won the battle. That is my daughter doesn't have to reapply, I don't have to send any more info, but my husband will fill in a further online form about his income.

cathyandclaire · 11/08/2015 20:39

How frustrating Marianne. I think even a partial victory over a government agency like that is a massive achievement, it's almost impossible to get anywhere without filling in a gazillion forms, all asking the same question in different ways Smile

Horsemad · 12/08/2015 11:24

Grade boundaries are out. DS has suddenly gone quiet and DH prophesising doom.
Just want tomorrow to be here and done with. Sad

bruffin · 12/08/2015 11:50

DD seemed quite pleased with the AS grade boundaries. DS wont even look at the A2s.

Littleham · 12/08/2015 11:58

DD2 has been looking at the grade boundaries too. She believes she has got at least two of her predictions but her worst exam has a higher grade boundary than usual so the third one might be borderline. Hey ho.

Good luck everyone. If it all goes pear shaped there will be other options.

Am I too late to join? A little stressed today, DS refuses to talk about tomorrow, he has an unconditional offer so I am not sure what I am worrying about but...

Horsemad · 12/08/2015 12:04

Not too late TheLibrary Smile you should be relaxing with an unconditional though!!

Mindgone · 12/08/2015 12:16

I am cautiously optimistic after DS has seen the grade boundaries! He is refusing to go that far! Very worried about jinxes!!
