Only another week to go for DD, but I know some of you have two weeks.

Only a week to go! Trying to resist wine and having a nice cup of tea :)
Ds said that Enterprise was meh but Physics was good. He has deemed tomorrow a day off.

TeenAndTween · 12/06/2015 16:02

DD now finished. Grin Physics2 went OK. Smile
Exam and revision timetables torn up.
Watching Twilight.
Prom next week.
Domino's tonight.

Thank God that's over ....

bebumba · 12/06/2015 16:04

Well done TeenAndTween another GCSE survivor!

TeenAndTween · 12/06/2015 16:07

Hope everyone who is still going manages to survive next week.

When DD2 choose her options in 4 years time, I think I'll check out prospective exam dates first!

LineRunner · 12/06/2015 16:07

I'm re-doing dinner, having burnt the first one to smithereens. I got really nervous for DS today. He really needs an A in Physics to go on to do anything biomedical, I think.

Bloody hell, I got into University on a right load of crap compared to what they have to have these days.

What's the Oxford and Cambridge minimum at GCSE, tbtc, do you know? DS says he has been told that it's at least six A* at GCSE, plus near-perfect A levels. Shock

TheWordFactory · 12/06/2015 16:11

line there's no official number for Oxbridge.

Cambridge are more forgiving than Oxbridge but make higher A level offers ( usually).

But a good clutch of A*s would usually be a requisite. Not a full house though.

TheWordFactory · 12/06/2015 16:12

Physics finished here. Both said it was fine.

They're grumpy because so many of their classmates are now done. Sigh.

auntpetunia · 12/06/2015 16:14

Physics here was described as dead easy! Now worrying thst others thought it difficult. I'll also more later at present he's monosyllabic with the odd grunt. TFIF Wine

Nydj · 12/06/2015 16:19

Errol if your dh is bald, which hair is he going to dye?! Sorry, my excuse for being puerile is that ds has another week of exams to go.

SugarPlumTree · 12/06/2015 16:19

Well that could get very interesting on the hair front Errol Grin

There does seem to be horrendous pressure on grades for University these days. I've been quite closely involved in friend's DD's application and am not looking forward to Aug 13 as she hasn't come out of many very happly but needs AAB.

Love technology. Just been able to ask DD's friend to help DD sort prom shoes and find out if she is taking a bag, all from comfort of my kitchen calling out to disembodied voice in the living room. I'd have so loved to have been able to speak to my friends from the sofa rather than having to pick the phone lock that my poor Dad installed in desperation.

Littleham · 12/06/2015 16:26

Hang out the flags......she has finished. Grin

Physics - 'fine'. DD3 is not a great one for sharing information.

My A Level dd has to get AAA - no pressure for next week then. Gulp

LineRunner · 12/06/2015 16:32

Thanks, WordFactory. I am very, very out of the loop on Oxbridge stuff. Tbh I'll be thrilled if DS gets a sciencey place at Cardiff or Newcastle when the time comes. Brilliant places.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/06/2015 16:33

DD thought the AQA U1 physics was harder than usual - which suited her fine but she said some of the questions probably threw some people.

Fairenuff · 12/06/2015 16:34

Ds said physics was ok, it was all formulas. Apparently there was 'nothing' from the revision guide but it's ok as he just knew the answers Hmm

Will have to wait and see on that one. dingit his history next week is Protest, Law and Order (I think it's Option B).

bigTillyMint · 12/06/2015 16:35

I don't think DD found the physics particularly good, but it's done now!

Envy Congratulations to all you finishers!

Sidge · 12/06/2015 16:36

DD said Physics (OCR) had some tough maths but it was ok and very short. Whatever that means...

4 to go next week.

LineRunner · 12/06/2015 16:37

Sugar my university offer was three Cs! This was to Newcastle on a really decent course.

I am pleased for all of you whose DCs have finished - have a great weekend! But think of us...

ErrolTheDragon · 12/06/2015 16:41

Back in the day, perfectly respectable courses at redbricks (eg my chemistry at birmingham) would offer 3 Es - it didn't reflect what they expected or wanted you to get, more that on the basis of the school's predictions they wanted you so offered the minimum so you could accept with confidence and everyone knew what they were doing.

motherstongue · 12/06/2015 16:41

Aw Juggling, it's so great when they say nice things.they have no idea how pathetically glad we are when we feel appreciated lol.

Tbtc that is fantastic news about your DS. I hope I'm not considered boasting too but DS is also an Oxbridge hopeful. Does he know what subject he wants to read yet? DS has his sights on PPE at Oxford which I believe is a pig to get a place on so we will just have to wait and see.

Haven't heard a dickie from him re physics today but was probably packing and will now be en-route to the airport for his flight home. I'm ridiculously excited to have him home for the next 5 days and plan to feed him up for his last 2 exams next Thursday before heading off for DofE.

Have a great weekend everyone!

DD has finished! She was happy with how the physics went. Some of the stuff she revised yesterday came up on the exam, so she was patting herself on the back.

She doesn't quite know what to do with herself now, in a bit of a daze. I feel similar Wink

switchitoff · 12/06/2015 16:55

Collected DS from the Physics exam and asked him how it went. Despite it only being about 10 minutes after the exam had finished he couldn't remember anything about it - all knowledge instantaneously wiped from his memory banks!!

Thanks to everyone for all the support over the past few weeks. And commiserations to those who have to keep going into next week. (I suppose that means we started earlier than you though? DS did Art way back in April and his first written exam on 5 May).

I'll be back for the results in August . Until then, have a great summer everyone.

GloriaSmud · 12/06/2015 17:00

Another one that's reached the finishing line. I've just put a huge line through the last exam on the timetable. DD1 and I had a lovely hug just as she got in I might have got a bit emotional again but it's all strangely quiet at the moment. DDs are going to celebrate with pizza for dinner, huge slices of Cake and DH's getting Wine for us later.

Good Luck to those that still have exams to come in the next few weeks ~ will be thinking of you and may I offer much Flowers, Brew, Wine and Cake to help you through the remaining ones.

Finally ~ hope to 'see' you all on a results thread in a few months time ~ fingers crossed for good results for all.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/06/2015 17:01

Also - the electronics teacher asked DD and her pal to see her next week about a project they might do next year. The school isn't doing the DT systems&control that they wanted to do for A-level, so the HT suggested they could do an EPQ.

LineRunner · 12/06/2015 17:05

Oh God - the results threads. Hated them three years ago when DD was getting hers. I was saying on one how gut-achingly relieved I was that she got a C in Maths, and I seemed to be invisible and surrounded by people whose DCs had got 11 A*s.

I really like this thread, though. I feel there will be some tact and sensitivity, and a lot of support, because we all know the bloody hard work that goes into all the results, whatever they end up being. And that's hard work and sweat from us, included, to help our DCs of all talents and interests and personalities and futures. Wine
