Exam season starts....

Same here for DD Horsemad except she has an AS History resit. She's quite relieved to be honest, she's spent many years with some of these kids ( gosh, they aren't really that anymore are they!) many of them were at primary, secondary and now 6th form together. She has her close group of friends but is getting itchy feet for a fresh start and new faces.

Horsemad · 20/05/2015 12:36

Yes, apart from exams, that's it! I remember taking him to start his first day in infants and absolutely howling when I got home! No tears today, just a sense of wanting Aug 13 to come soon so we know where we are re unis Wink

AmazingDisgrace · 20/05/2015 12:46

August 13th and 20th ( DS1 GCSEs) cant come quickly enough. I just want all this to be over and the uncertainty out the way.It is too early for alcohol I suppose.

Horsemad · 20/05/2015 12:49

Never too early for alcohol in exam season Amazing Wine Grin

I wasn't this worried when DS1 did his GCSEs; think it's because like you, I've got them both doing exams at the same time. I just hate it. Angry

AmazingDisgrace · 20/05/2015 13:18

We arrive back from the States on the 12th then leave again for Spain and France on the 21st for 10 days so less dwelling leading up to A level results and any GCSE disasters will be quickly forgotten. I'm praying DS1 doesn't muck his GCSEs in such a way that he has to leave his current school. He needs A*A in all A level subjects and a minimum of 5 ( or maybe 6) A grades to continue to 6th form. He does have a back up place at 6th form college but staying on where he is would be much better for him

I've painted my nails to stop me biting them

Littleham · 20/05/2015 13:28

Oh my goodness Amazing. Those are very stringent grade requirements. My dd has to get five C's which sounds good but I worry that she could just cruise.

OP posts:
Horsemad · 20/05/2015 13:38

DS2 needs Bs in A level subject choices and 2 others at C. A friend's DS needs all As to stay at his school.

AmazingDisgrace · 20/05/2015 14:04

All A grades. Blimey now THAT'S stringent!

Horsemad · 20/05/2015 16:36

DS1 home, complete with Goodbye/Good Luck messages all over his shirt. Really lovely message from a schoolfriend who started on first day at infants with him 14 years ago, now that got me choked up Sad

AmazingDisgrace · 20/05/2015 16:40

Awww Horsemad! DD has pals from reception too. I suspect she'll be out partying tonight since she has no exams for 2 weeks now Hmm

Fairenuff · 20/05/2015 17:10

Dd is going to the pub at 3.30 on Friday with all the sixth form students and then onto a meal out in the evening with the french teachers and students. She'll come home in between to shower and change and has already bought a new dress for the evening.

Bound to be an emotional day. I'm off work so will be able to pick her up, ferry her around and mop up any tears Grin

I won't miss the shirt ironing Smile

MrsBartlet · 20/05/2015 21:21

Hope all the last days are going well. Dd has had a very emotional day. She is very close to a number of her teachers and is going to miss them enormously.

hellsbells99 · 20/05/2015 22:49

Well DD1 left last Friday and has already been back in school twice. She has given DD2 a lift in for her exams and then studied in the library waiting for DD2 to finish. She is back in again tomorrow as she is retaking an AS paper - DD2 will be in the same exam Smile. No uniform in 6th form here unless you count black jeans
For all those leaving this week, I hope they enjoy their evenings out.

JWIM · 21/05/2015 09:46

Hope the AS retakes are going well for all DC.

Have sent DD off for her last day at 6th Form College. No big celebrations here as very big years (1500-2000) and only there for Year 12/13 so just a Tutor Group get together earlier this week and then today is the end. DD seems very content, revision going well and last set of Mocks have been encouraging.

Onwards to 8 June when DD starts A2s.

Decorhate · 21/05/2015 18:45

My dd goes on study leave tomorrow but they don't have their leavers assembly till after most of the A2s are over

circular · 21/05/2015 19:59

Study leave started 2 weeks ago here, no big leavers thing AFAIK. Dont think they have their hoodies or yearbooks yet either. Guessing something happening after A2s also.

Both AS retakes done now, got the normal 'OK' from DD. Shes extremely tired, so hope doesnt lose her new found studying enthusiasm. No exams now till 9th June, then 4 in one week.

MrsBartlet · 21/05/2015 20:28

Decorhate - dd was just saying at dinner that it would be much more sensible to have leavers' assembly after the exams. She is feeling emotionally drained after the last few days and now she has to knuckle down and do some serious revision. The timing was much better for her friends who did the IB as they have largely finished.

Decorhate · 21/05/2015 21:13

Unfortunately some of her friends have exams that clash with the assembly! They are also having some sort of breakfast thing tomorrow. It still seems like a long time till the exams are over. They must be well & truly fed up with going over the same stuff again & again

muffinmonster · 21/05/2015 21:17

DD sat her third and final resit today, BUT… she has now decided to resit another Physics paper. I am amazed that this is possible at such a late stage. She said she suggested it mainly in jest to her teacher earlier today (as in "I suppose it's too late to…") and he said, no, not too late at all. So she will have resat all of Physics except for the practical. I hope she's doing the right thing.

Tomorrow is their official last day: some lessons, apparently, then leavers' assembly, hoodies, and a barbecue lunch. mumslife, like your DD, she has been at the school only for sixth form and it has gone too fast. I think it's been quite a challenge but also very good for her.

circular, my DD just says the papers were 'OK', too - I think she's trying to keep my expectations low. But she goes online after each exam looking for an unofficial mark scheme and trying to work out her grades. I'm afraid to ask. I don't know how reliable those things are anyway.
