Exam season starts....

DS finishes next Wed. The day starts with a special Leaver's breakfast and they have a BBQ and rounders match against the staff after school.
He's decided he's only going to the breakfast! Confused

Littleham · 15/05/2015 23:15

Nope Mumslife, her firm is York but she wants to get as high as possible for all the AS's because she wants lots of 'falling room' for the A2's. Hmm Anyway she took it today and said it felt about the same as last year so that was a wasted exam fee!

I think dd's study leave starts with half term. I dream of no more packed lunches Envy, but still two younger ones at school so still have millions of the dratted things to make.

mumslife - I do think they get to a stage where they just feel too old for school. I never thought it would happen with dd as she loves her school so much but she has just started talking about being ready to leave. She has got to the stage where she feels she has more in common with the teachers than the younger students. However, school is like a second home to her so it will still be a wrench.

NiceCardigan - I am panicking too! If I wake up in the night thinking about dd leaving home, I have palpitations Blush She is my pfb! On the plus side, ds and I are looking forward to getting out the door on time in the morning, as we spend our lives waiting for dd!

Mumslife ABB is a massive achievement. Tell her that in many schools she would be the top student. Sounds like she is quite a selective school.

OP posts:
hellsbells99 · 16/05/2015 10:28

I'm glad mine go to a non-selective state school Wink although the pressure now is from getting the required grades for the uni offers.
1 of DD2's year 12 friends has switched from a private school and says that she felt 'thick' there whereas at DD's school she realises she isn't (think she means that there are a lot of lower attainers and this isn't really a compliment!).
Both DDs are now up and revising.

hellsbells99 · 16/05/2015 10:30

DD1 would be very happy at this stage with ABB! Her offer is AAB but they did indicate they would most likel accept her with ABB.
What does your DD need mumslife?

Fairenuff · 16/05/2015 10:37

Dd has an offer of ABB but it is her lowest one, the others are all AAB,

AtiaoftheJulii · 16/05/2015 10:44

This is a time of so many mixed emotions, isn't it! Dd is ready to move on, already looking forward to uni, but finishing school was a definite wrench. She ended up sort of compering the leavers' assembly, so couldn't really indulge in a good cry though! She has loved her time at that school though - I have ambivalent feelings about grammar schools, but her all girl selective school has been perfect for her, and I can quite easily well up at the thought that she won't be there anymore Blush

Thinking of her going off to university is exciting, but I know I'm going to miss her sooooo much.

hellsbells99 · 16/05/2015 10:44

Fingers crossed Fairenuff - you can tell they all feel very much under pressure now. They are all desparate to get to uni - I also think it is time for DD to leave home so she can 'clubbing' in peace!

Littleham · 16/05/2015 10:45

DD's reserve is ABB (but they indicated that BBB would be accepted). I'm really talking this option up at the moment (to take away pressure) & luckily she would be very happy with this choice. I think it is going to be very easy to slip somewhere and miss her AAA offer. Only takes one bad exam.

OP posts:
hellsbells99 · 16/05/2015 10:47

Atia - I agree. Mixed emotions here too. DD did say she blubbed in assembly. 1 of her close friends got the student of the year award which was voted for so she was very chuffed for her.

hellsbells99 · 16/05/2015 10:51

Littleham - it is a worry. DD knows she has lost marks in her chemistry Empas o wally needs to do well in the next 2 exams. She is also retaking 1 of the AS units to try and get extra marks. Fingers crossed that your DD gets her AAA

Littleham · 16/05/2015 10:57

Same for you too hellsbells. We do specialise in going to the reserve choice in this family. I missed my firm by one Ucca point (but loved my insurance choice). DD1 missed one A level grade and went to insurance - she is loving it too. Only dh made it to his firm!

So if the worse does come to worse please tell them not to worry as they will still be happy.

OP posts:
hellsbells99 · 16/05/2015 11:13

Unfortunately DD's insurance is still AAB but just not specifying what she needs the As in. But they did go into clearing last year and according to student room accepted BBB - but we know that may be totally different this year.

MrsBartlet · 16/05/2015 11:48

Dd is feeling the pressure as she needs an A for her offer. She had a minor meltdown in the car on the way to school the other day as she had just realised quite how difficult it is to get an A. I am concentrating on trying to keep her calm.

Wow MrsB who has asked for A* Shock

That's a very tall order. Will they accept an A do you think?

MrsBartlet · 16/05/2015 12:35

Fairenuff - it is Cambridge so an A is not an option Grin Although to be fair her Durham offer was for AAA and Exeter wanted 2As and an A! Her insurance is AAA (York) so not much wiggle-room anywhere! Roll on results day - I can't take the pressure, never mind dd!

Fairenuff · 16/05/2015 12:38

Ah bugger, that is a lot of pressure for your dd MrsB but there is probably a bit of leeway with the insurance. I do remember Exeter giving out silly offers.

hellsbells99 · 16/05/2015 13:30

Good luck MrsB's DD - that is a tall order.
Great news Mumslife that your DD's offer is unconditional.

DS is glad he took maths because he is more likely to get his A* in that than either of his essay subjects.

MrsBartlet · 16/05/2015 14:40

Dd is doing 3 essay subjects - having said that if she had attempted maths she would have been lucky to get a pass Grin
