So do you have a question or something? What do you want to know?

Iggly · 31/12/2014 22:00

Any school that is selective will also be socially selective. Be it by academic or religion. They always favour those who can play the game.

Wonder why Henrietta Barnett is not on there.

handcream · 31/12/2014 22:03

Sorry, a number of these are grammar schools, of course they are going to be selective......

What is your point I wonder, Slough is not a particularly nice area tbh.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 31/12/2014 22:03

Almost all Home Counties isn't it. Not a single London school, unless I'm not reading the list correctly.

AuntieStella · 31/12/2014 22:04

Also, for those which are state boarding schools (which have a lot of boarding Forces pupils, who are eligible for pupil premium but not FSM) are the stats collected on day pupils or whole school?

And how does the FSM rate compare to proxy measures for poverty for the postcodes in their admissions footprints? Because if a school stands in an affluent area, it's FSM figure might be both low and totally representative of its neighbourhood.

Sparklingbrook · 31/12/2014 22:04

What is the OP trying to say? Sorry for not understanding.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 31/12/2014 22:06

Sorry I take it back - just re-read the list from bottom to top and realise its not just Home Counties! Plus TBH my English geography is quite shocking!

Iggly · 31/12/2014 22:06

St olaves technically in London (zone 6, Orpington!)

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 31/12/2014 22:07

Sparkling - no idea - hopefully s/he will be back to clarify Grin

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 31/12/2014 22:07

Thanks iggly Blush

Sparklingbrook · 31/12/2014 22:08

I have 2 DSs in Secondary Education Hearts so I am in the right section I double checked.. Just worried what the hidden message is. Confused Grin

Theas18 · 31/12/2014 22:10

Don't think the op has a point to make. Maybe we were supposed to be outraged?

I'm more interested ( and glad that I'm not applying now as a non fsm/pp parent) that the local grammars have added an extra class in all the schools to attempt to make them the tool for social mobility grammars are always supposed to be. However in order to attempt to fill the extra 30 places with pp kids there is a substantially lower qualifying score for them.

Surely doesn't this just bring in a band of less able kids ?

Eltonjohnsflorist · 31/12/2014 22:12

How is Orpington technically London?

Mistlewoeandwhine · 31/12/2014 22:13

No because 11+ doesn't bring in the most able students but those with m/class backgrounds who can afford tutors and give their children loads of advantages.

Camolips · 31/12/2014 22:15

Hockerill is Herts.

Bakeoffcakes · 31/12/2014 22:16

Theas- it might just allow those dc who are very bright but haven't had any individual tutoring.
It's a great idea.

SanityClause · 31/12/2014 22:16

Orpington is in London Borough of Bromley, so technically in London.

Also, St Olaves is historically a London school. Google it.

Iggly · 31/12/2014 22:17

How? Because they vote in the London mayoral elections and are within a London borough, that's how.

handcream · 31/12/2014 22:23

I wish there was a grammar school in every town, here in Bucks they are just for the people who can afford the tutoring.

Theas18 · 31/12/2014 22:24

Bakeoff I do hope that's what happens. The test is supposed to be un teachable but I'm sure unfair advantage comes from tutoring yep

moonrocket · 31/12/2014 22:25

Theas- the theory is that without the coaching which their family supposedly "could not afford", they will get a lower score than non-FSM children.
And it's 25 extra, I believe. Wink
