Separate board needed for Private Schools?

MrsBright · 04/02/2014 21:48

Whilst I appreciate that those of you interested in a private education for your children want to discuss it, I suspect I am not alone in finding the endless succession of 'St Trinians or Eton?' threads irritating. Even more irritating is the 'Obscure local school in the South East vs another Obscure local school in the South East?' since only 1 person in 1,000 will even have heard of these schools never mind have any meaningful opinion of them.

PLEASE - could we get the private school stuff off onto another page so that this board could be about educational issues only and not the private school version of Trip Advisor?

Why is education so upsetting for people?

HanSolo · 05/02/2014 21:38

What the actual fuck?

My post was in NO WAY WHATSOEVER a personal attack!

I've been here 8 years, only been deleted once in all that time!

Was the OP Mary Beard or something? How on earth does she command MNHQ's time and delete button so readily?

scottishmummy · 05/02/2014 21:39

Dont support this at all,it's an irascible poster grinding her axe
Thars all

scottishmummy · 05/02/2014 21:41

What's the relevance of how long you've been on mn
You don't get special dispensation to be rude based on time served
Applying the but I've been here years rule, the auld moaners would be even worse

Bonkerssometimes · 05/02/2014 21:45

I think MN are right to delete personal attacks. It's awful to be mobbed in here.

I think this thread is OP's reaction to another inflammatory thread about the educational divide.

I don't support the OP manner and her proposal, but I do think we should avoid making this topic an arena for class warfare either way.

HanSolo,

you comments were personal IMO.
OP clearly was rude and out of line too.

HanSolo · 05/02/2014 21:53

Personal?

I was pointing out to blu in a joking manner that she'd missed Studio schools off her list!

Sm- I was making the point that I am not a rude poster. The 1 time I was deleted was when I posted a rl person's MN name accidentally.

bonkers are you the bonkers?

scottishmummy · 05/02/2014 21:54

Oh suck it up

Blu · 05/02/2014 22:08

I did omit studio schools!

What is a studio school?

I know what a Riding School is.

HanSolo · 05/02/2014 22:13

Studio schools are sort of vocational free schools, tend to be fairly small, large part of the curriculum is skills-based, so there are studio schools based around coding (programming) hairdressing & beauty, mechanics etc.

Blu · 05/02/2014 22:20

Thank you, HansSolo. Very interesting.

Studio schools definitely need their own board - possibly two!

FozzieMK · 06/02/2014 11:41

I agree with AuntieStella. I have children at private school but come on here to get general information on GCSE's, what Gove has done now and other non-specific information. Personally I find the 'my child is very bright, is doing 5 million GCSE's which are all predicted an A* but I'm worried he'll get an A on one of them' really annoying. Can we make a new section for those threads if we are splitting hairs?

TheBeautifulVisit · 06/02/2014 15:13

I have children at private schools but I like to come onto state school threads to reassure myself that the money we're spending is worth every penny. And I like the idea that those in the maintained sector get to peek through the gates and see our manicured grounds, lakes, latin mottos and felted lambswool blazers.

Sadly this is all nonsense as my children go to very lovely state schools.
