Does your Y7 change into home clothes after school?

Probably a daft thing to be asking, again, but since starting in Y7 my daughter refuses to get changed after school; even if we go swimming later on she'll go in it and get changed back into it all afterwards, which I just worry is a bit odd and must also be both uncomfortable. What do others' children do?

When my DD gets home the first thing she does is get out of her uniform.

dd sheds hers the moment she walks in. If she isn't going out again she has a bath & puts her pjs on, otherwise she gets into real clothes (we both hate her uniform).

My DC range from yr 3 to yr 8 and they all get changed out of their uniforms as soon as they get home.

My DD doesn't change until about 8pm when she has a shower and puts on her PJs. She did the same at primary school. Don't worry - I think your daughter is proud of her uniform

Hmmm, call me obsessed but isn't it odd for a child to want to stay in a shirt, tie and blazer the whole evening - she'll leave the blazer at home under protest if we go swimming because I don't want it screwed up in the locker

I have one in S1 and one in P7 - they have to change out their uniform as soon as they get home and hang up the clean bits and put the dirty in the wash. I hate to see kids out and about in school uniform after school - not talking about the unavoidable occasions where they are at an appointment or class straight after school - but when you see them out playing or at the park etc.

Once they are changed and have completed any homework then they are free to chill out/go out. They do activities on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday so they put proper clothes on - we are not really a "pyjamas round the house" type of family :)

yes Dumbwaitress, I think it's odd but it takes all sorts.....

Personally i'd get her told to change, no ifs ands or buts.

At primary, both of my children didn't change but the uniform wasn't expensive, just a polo shirt/jumper and I didn't want the extra washing from mishaps at teatime!

Now at high school, I do get them to change. Partly because it's shirts and ties for both (plus blazer for DS) and it looks uncomfortable and partly it's expensive! Shirts in the wash, clean stuff hung up.

It's whatever you are comfortable with though!

Mine loose the tie and blazer but will stay in the school shirt and trousers usually. I don't see what the problem is, making two sets of clothes dirty in a day is pretty pointless

Yr1, 2 and 5 here - my DM goes on about them changing when they get home, I insist they don't - they have fresh uniform every day anyway - it would just double the washing!!!
I don't see the harm personally, maybe she just can't be arsed - or do you choose all her home clothes!?

creamteas - it tends to work out the same washing overall - because they change out of their school trousers when they come home, they last more than a day and also their casual clothes get more than one wear because they have only been on a few hours. maybe have an extra couple of t-shirts since the shirts get washed daily anyway but tha'ts about it.

Two of mine have been known to keep their uniform on including blazer until bedtime... Not every day but at least once a week... And mine are older

Yr7, 11 and 12 here. They all stay in their uniform unless they are going out somewhere. Always have done. Blazers are usually taken off and son takes his tie off and undoes collar, but that's it really.

My three never change, unless we're doing something unusual/social like going out for dinner. Sometimes, as the evening wears on, DS (Y8) might strip to his pants and put his dressing gown on (nice!) but that's about it.

amck My DCs shirts and trousers could not be worn two days in a row. The is always something (usually mud or food) on them by the time they get home and they are in years 10 & 11

cream - shirts don't get reworn - they look and smell alright tbh - but I wouldn't let them wear them twice. They have both been known to make a pair of trousers last all week :) - youngest wears polo shirts and sweatshirt. he sometimes makes the sweatshirt last all week too!!

Youngest walks 200 yards to school and isn't into football so mostly just walks about. Eldest gets driven to and from school and isn't into football either (or moving too much if he can help it!) so they don't get very dirty.

I thought I had her sussed - she spent ages over the summer trying it on, like somebody else said, and liking the smart look, then when she started she wanted to look all cool and trying to untuck the shirt and modify the tie, and now she won't take the damn thing off and insists on looking smart 24/7!!

Tsk be glad she isn't like my stinky-at-the-moment DS and sleeps in her uniform so he won't have to make the effort at school.. he has to be held down and have his dragged off his back for washing..literally.. must be a phase and it had better end soon

She just loves her new uniform, and is probably feeling smart and grown up :)

Mine don't - I have enough washing thank you, without encouraging yet more clothes out of the wardrobe.
dd's school wear an open necked blouse and jumper though - no tie or blazer - and ds used to take his blazer off when he got in, but would often still have his tie on.
