Are you ready? What's everyone got planned for Thursday? I'm going to my school to check on results, then wait for DD to call me from her school, with her news.

It's going to be an emotional day! Possibly not personally with DD, not expecting any top results, but she does already has Maths and English in the bag. She had what she needs to move forward and that's all that matters.

I have another 120 kids at my school and one or two who I care very much about. Can't wait to be there for them.

That's brilliant Taggie, clever girl!

Am expecting a text from DD any time, she only has one to get this year but still anxious! Well, I am, not sure about her....

maddiemostmerry · 23/08/2012 11:00

Well done taggie and super children. Will read thread back pages later.

Ds got 6 A*, 3 A and 2 B. He was surprised by his B in English as he was predicted A. He is happy thoughGrin

Well done to all those that got what they wanted, to those that didn't it's not the end of the world. Ds1 had to resit some GCSE's and nearly got kicked out of sixth form for not working hard enough. He got there in the end though.

TheOneWithTheHair · 23/08/2012 11:03

Well done to your dcs BOF and maddie. That's fab. :)

Thanks everyone. The whole house is having to deal with his mood swings at the moment but he's going away for 10 days now so he'll hopefully be ok by the time he gets home. :(

maddiemostmerry · 23/08/2012 11:17

Theonewiththehair, I am sorry. Hopefully he will feel better when he gets home form his trip. He is in college so that is his fresh start. Good luck to him.

My ds1 was predicted all B's and was gobsmacked when he didn't get them. It is a horrible feeling and the whole house does suffer. In the great scheme of things it is such a small part of his life.

lubeybooby · 23/08/2012 11:23

Two A's Three B's and a C here, thats her three quarters through her GCSE's now in module form. The C was one I argued about - her Geography teacher put her on the foundation paper even though her capability is for higher but then said he couldn't change it til year 11

So - Still year 11 to go but very very happy here so far. She's worked so hard.

GetOrfMoiUsain · 23/08/2012 11:25

Well done BOF and taggie - that is really great news, well done, you must be so proud.

Real disappointment and tears here. Sophia was CD borderline in maths and got a D. She did well in the rest of her exams (all Bs in he a level subjects and Cs in the rest which is what we expected) and she really did work hard. But she has taken this very hard and feels she is a failure. Really sad for her and feel like an absolute heel because I HAVE to go to work this afternoon and wanted to stay with her.

She is not academic and had to try really hard for those results, I have kept telling her I am so proud and she is a wonderful person but she is flagellating herself about that D.

3A, 6A and 1B here. DD very upset and crying at school and all the way home. She expected at least 3 more A and was on the A/A* boundary. The B is due to the history teacher fucking up in the controlled assessment (grade d) she got A's in the papers.

almapudden · 23/08/2012 11:32

GetOrf - your poor DD. It's so upsetting when you work hard and still don't get what you want. I assume she can resit at college/6th form though? I had friends who resat their Maths GCSE 3 or 4 times throughout sixth form - they were getting As and Bs in their A level subjects so they were by no means stupid, just struggled with Maths!0

TheOneWithTheHair · 23/08/2012 11:32

So sorry GetOrf. Will she have to resit maths?

Well done Fluffy.

MrsCobbit · 23/08/2012 11:32

Phew - C in Maths, As in A level subjects, then Bs and Cs and a miraculous D in chemistry. Pretty much what he deserved based on his lack of work and poor attitude. Hope he's learned his lesson. Well done to all the DCs so far and good luck to those still waitingSmile

Oh GetOrf, I'm gutted for her- I know what a great kid she is. Big squeeze for her and you. It will all be ok, it really will, it might just take her a few days to bounce back and see that.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 23/08/2012 11:38

Poor Sophia :( Is there any possibility of having that D looked at/re-marked?

TaggieCampbellBlack · 23/08/2012 11:41

God its hard isn't it.

BeingFluffy · 23/08/2012 11:42

Thanks, hope everyone is OK. DD is a bit better now. In fact I hope this will finally make her see that she needs to study consistently all year round and not just cram before the exams.

Has anyone else had a low French writing mark (c) and A's in the other components for OCR? Her History controlled assessment was a D, with A's in the papers - not sure if it is possible to ask for a remark. Chemistry is defo going for remark - 2 points off an A which she confidently expected. She is gutted about not getting the A in Latin but the grade boundaries are really high for that one - she is also worried about being in the same situation if she takes Latin A' level as she planned. She got A* in English Language (OCR) ironically enough, despite the apparent grade boundary slashings.

Landofsoapandglory · 23/08/2012 11:45

Oh poor Sophia, GetOrf.

DS2 is in tears and we haven't even gone yet, we are going in a minute. He is so desperate to be a physiotherapist so needs the grades, but as he is going into Yr11 he could retake.

I am sure he will get the grades by the end of yr11, but it is not easy seei your 6ft3 son crumple into tears and say "mum, I really want to be a physio, I don't want to be a dustbin man".

God, give me the toddler years any day!

mockingjay · 23/08/2012 11:52

Well done so far everyone...

Just popped in to say hi to GetOrfs DD. I dropped a grade at GCSE maths, and I remember waking up every morning for weeks with this kind of dull ache in my stomach. I really, truly thought that it would blight the rest of my life (haha!). I just wanted to reassure your DD that the feeling goes away, and no one (including her) will care in the slightest in a little while.

Obviously you know that GetOrf, but I thought it might help your DD to hear it from someone else Smile

GnomeDePlume · 23/08/2012 11:55

DD got hers at 9am. 3 A*s and 7 As so very pleased and proud of her.

Bit of a puzzle about her German as her A* coursework has now been turned into Bs/Cs on the results sheet so not sure what went wrong there. Overall result is an A so it doesnt really make sense.

I have started a separate thread so if anyone has the time or inclination to advise what DD needs to do to query this then I would be really grateful.

mummytime · 23/08/2012 12:01

Okay ours; better than expected Physics A, and an improved B in Control Technology. However A not the needed A in Maths, and a dreadful E (but probably deserved) in English. I'm now expecting a phone call from one of the Heads of Sixth form to discuss what we do from here. Especially as I have litte faith in the English department at present, it really wasn't all his fault.

mermaidbutmytailfelloff · 23/08/2012 12:01

My ds2 got a mix of a's and b's......the relief here is so huge. He got so stressed the last 6 months he has been in the care of CAMHS, and despite the hospital admissions and the pills and psychiatrists and CBT and so much shit he has done it, Cant stop smiling....

GetOrfMoiUsain · 23/08/2012 12:06

Oh thank you you LOVELY lot, thanks so much.

Yes she will resit her maths. She is just terrible at maths bless her. The school is also sending the history paper back as the whole cohort seem to have been poorly marked so that might bump another one up.

I know someone who was as maths blind as dd, she had to take her gcse maths 4 times in 6th form! She got there in the end.

Dd has cheered up somewhat - I am really glad. She was a bit teary when I left but a load of teachers and kids (including the new head) have gone to the pub next to the school for lunch!

Well done everyone's kids. God this is gruelling. God the toddler rages and endless nitcombing was a LOT easier than this.

And we have it again at AS.

Then A2.

Then university modules.
