Are you ready? What's everyone got planned for Thursday? I'm going to my school to check on results, then wait for DD to call me from her school, with her news.

It's going to be an emotional day! Possibly not personally with DD, not expecting any top results, but she does already has Maths and English in the bag. She had what she needs to move forward and that's all that matters.

I have another 120 kids at my school and one or two who I care very much about. Can't wait to be there for them.

@tough DD1 did one physics paper. We won't get the result till she is back at school. They also did some CAs during the year - I think some of the optional subjects had quite a few actually but not anything she is doing. She's done one controlled performance already too. They do everything else in Y10. At DSs comp, they do French GCSE in Y9, then go on to do 1, 2 or more additional MFLs in Y11 with the rest of their GCSEs.

But displayed, students have to display sufficient academic rigour to be able to cope with the A level course, which is much harder. There are other pathways to follow, of course, with higher education colleges offering different opportunities for expanding thier knowledge.

Ah, Fannychanel. Did he do an ICT course, or anything else vocational that could be an equivalent? I seriously forgot till I got home to look up up DD's ICT certificate and it equals a single GCSE. Or any Btechs?

Kez100 · 23/08/2012 19:01

I'm currently in deepest darkest west country and without official mobile signal - I have managed to stand very strangely on a wall and picked up a bar or two of signal, so I can't read how everyone has done but promise to be back on Saturday, when I get home to civilisation, and reply to all those I shared the GCSE exams with.

My daughter did brilliantly - she passed every GCSE with a Grade C - language, literature, Maths, RE, core science, additional science, French, drama plus distinction in ICT national award. We are very very proud of her.

LineRunner · 23/08/2012 19:09

Nice one, Kez. Smile

trish391971 · 23/08/2012 19:28

GeorginaWorsley · 23/08/2012 19:31

DS got 3 A*,6 A 1 B so we are delighted and very proud.
Well done to all.

DiscoDaisy · 23/08/2012 19:33

DD got 1 A, 7 B's and 4 C's.
She got what she needed to get her place at college!
She's feeling a bit down because some of her friends got more A's but her Dad and me are still so proud of her!

Hopefullyrecovering · 23/08/2012 19:37

Well done everyone! I have spent the day ROFLing at my friend who promised her DD £5k if she got A* in all 10 subjects. My friend thought her money was safe ... It wasn't :)

aloiseb · 23/08/2012 19:53

My DD got 3 A*s and an A! I'm so proud! The rest were all Bs. I know how hard she worked and she really deserves her success.
She's now gone off to Reading Festival to recuperate (?).... Confused

Fannychanel · 23/08/2012 20:01

Sad
LineRunner · 23/08/2012 20:09

Fanny, See if you can speak to someone at the College tomorrow or next week. It all sounds do-able. And good luck.

Fannychanel · 23/08/2012 20:15

Thanks we are going to college Tuesday fingers crossed

BringBack1996 · 23/08/2012 21:18

Does his course have an audition component, Fanny? If so, that would be something to back up your case about his place.

GnomeDePlume · 23/08/2012 21:43

Displaystortford is it possible for your DS to move to an FE college and look at a different type of course compared to those offered by sixth form?

mosschops30 · 23/08/2012 22:00

Im so proud of my dd. she got 2 As, 5 Bs and 3 Cs, which enables her to get into the best sixth form in the city Grin for her A levels.

I would like to go back to her primary school, who thought she had SEN and show it to them, along with her friend, also with 'SEN' he got 6 A* and 4As Hmm

magentadreamer · 23/08/2012 22:01

Fantastic news Kez. Having read some of your other threads I know how hard your DD has worked. Grin

clam · 23/08/2012 22:03

Having watched the news earlier about grade boundaries being raised, I just took a closer look at ds's results sheet. For his maths igcse, it says his % uniform mark was 81. When I googled that, for the January paper it would have got him an A*. But in May/June, he's got an A.
Can't find out the boundaries for this paper. Does anyone know?

Displaystortford · 23/08/2012 22:27

It probably is possible for him to move to a college, but I have not planned for that or looked at the options available. It is also quite late in the day to apply,so keeping my fingers crossed for his place.

Yellowtip · 23/08/2012 23:21

Year11mum very well done to your DD. That particular illness must be grim, so she's done extraordinarily well.

We're fine here too thanks, though DS looked very downbeat at the start. I think it's impossible for him not to compare himself to his siblings with results already in. Very hard. I've taken the view that I don't want to have to nag any of mine to work, that they have to want to do it themselves, so each has their level. This DS is just finding that point round about now. His results are quite odd, in that he got As only in subjects he hadn't been predicted As in and missed out (by a mark) in subjects that he had been predicted A* in. But when the dust has settled I think he'll be fine, approximate to his nearest sibling.

I've had too many children I think, and too many results days.

Still, we've all mellowed out at the pub :)

GnomeDePlume · 23/08/2012 23:34

Displaystortford, I know it depends on the area but certainly where I am the colleges are very used to receiving applications from students who are having a rethink after the results are out.

Is he sure that an academic route is right for him? There are an awful lot of courses out there which might play better to his strengths.

Good luck to your son whatever path he takes.
