Is this a reasonable question to ask a Secondary school, and should they be able to give me an answer reasonably quickly?

We like in an all selective area, and 23% of children go to grammar schools.

Would it be reasonable for me to ask the High School what % of their cohort are likely to start year 7 with level 5 SATS?

@gomez I was very careful to talk about 'the country' rather than the UK or GB. I was talking about England obviously, becausetax you said there is no selection in Scotland. I know Scotland does things completely differently, I have a friend who teaches there. I suspect (but do not know) that they do things a bit diffeently in Wales too (for example, Welsh medium schools. I don't know what they are but I know they exist). And NI until very recently had the 11+ everywhere but uses a different system again to describe school years. I think.

My old school is called X High School and is a so-called super-selective grammar. Can we all agree on the term secondary school?

Seeker I think the problem here is that you live in the old-fashioned all or nothing grammar system. We have grammars but not all DCs take the test, there's a different test at each school (so you get a couple of bites at the cherry if you have an "off"day) and the comps are actually high performing (Well, 2 or 3 are excellent but there are some dodgy ones, naturally, as is the way of things) considering there are grammars around. I think this makes it fairer but there are very cross people that think that our "local schools should be for local people" so really you can't win because that would make our school system like yours and that seems much more unfair. Here I think we actually have the best of both worlds except the house prices near the 2 good comps are crippling.

Sounds flippant but could you move? We are considering moving away because I can't cope with the house prices here and there is talk of tutoring already at the gates (they are year 2 Shock). I haven't got the energy for all the grammar conversations for the next few years and the worrying I'm inevitably going to do in 4 years time!!

Back to your OP I don't think it's an unreasonable question to ask the school but like someone else said not sure what you would do with the answer. Sorry you are having a tough time with it.
