American woman living in Bernera is suing the local community run cafe because it would not admit her "emotional support" dog. She is being supported by the Ethnic Minorities Law Centre because Americans are ethnic minorities, and is being funded by Legal Aid. She wants £10k, which would shut them down.

I mean. What the actual fuck. Move to a tiny island with 250 people on it, claim you're being ostracised and harrassed and try to solve that by suing a charity? That'll sort it. And LEGAL FUCKING AID???

So, anyway I decided to call just now since I’m travelling next week . The person was very helpful and I’ve to call back next week when I’m back to speak to another person.

And btw I used to volunteer them for when I was younger!

I explained why I was calling and referenced the case to put my question into context. The person I was speaking to was not aware of this particular case but googled it while I was on the phone and gave me a time to call back to talk to someone else next week.

My question was simply are they they now representing white Americans and if so on what basis?

When I worked for them they would not, but it’s possible their criteria has changed , if so - fine but their name should also change. It’s misleading to call it the “EMLC” if they are.

The question "what you asked" pertains to the characteristics of a specific individual, which they are not going to disclose to you or any other random who calls enquiring about it, hence why you are wasting your time and why they'll be perfectly justified in blanking you.

Even when I do call back if they choose not to engage that’s on them, but I will most certainly be asking this charity what exactly they stand for and if contrary to what their name suggest they represent non-ethnic minorities.

I just fell down an internet hole looking at the community centre website and reading the bulletins.

I want to go! I want to use the gym, go bowling, go to the cafe (on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday lunchtime) and a pop in to the all sorts club.

Also, there's a cheese and wine evening later and live acoustic music twice a month. It sounds like such a great community with everyone (most people) working together.

You are free to ask whatever you like, I have not suggested otherwise. My point is that you'll get absolutely nowhere via a telephone call because no organisation, third sector or otherwise, is going to discuss the characteristics of a client over the phone with a random caller.

And FWIW, this is not a "womens charity" and there is nothing of any substance whatsoever which suggests this individual is trans, not that this is of any relevance whatsoever in the first place.

We had a great visit earlier this year (a longer stay than planned actually, thanks to CalMac...) and the Outer Hebrides are hauntingly beautiful and every local person we met warm and welcoming.

Life is hard for these islanders and they don't deserve this trouble maker.
