Glasgow Central is on Fire!

The fire started in a vape shop, apparently but seems utterly out of control now. No trains in or out of the station. Has hit the Grand Central Hotel too.

Holy cow! Saw that it was closed when I checked trains on national rail enquiries earlier.

Hope no one is hurt.

Zerox · 08/03/2026 22:08

Are you there?

WithaLittle · 08/03/2026 22:08

I’ve seen it on the BBC news app, it looks awful. There are worries about CS’s glass roof collapsing.

Hope everyone is safe, I have DC’s in Glasgow.

pollydollydoodlealltheway · 08/03/2026 22:09

It looks awful 😢 and still not under control

EmeraldRoulette · 08/03/2026 22:10

I saw this, but then I also saw that some of the platforms are open?

I really hope everyone's okay. The fire seems to have spread - is that correct?

For a vape shop fire to get so out of control, but it spreads that far, is it like a kiosk in the station or something?

mumofoneAloneandwell · 08/03/2026 22:11

Oh 🥺

Nothing on the BBC yet

HoppityBun · 08/03/2026 22:11

This is awful. Have they evacuated everyone? It seems still not to be under control. Hope everyone is safe

From what I’ve heard they had it under control early then something else in the vape shop exploded and I’ve just seen videos of the building collapsing. Even if the station is saved we’re talking about mid 19th c. buildings being destroyed right now. Reminds me so much of the art school fires and it’s so sad. I hope everyone nearby and all the firefighters are safe of course, that’s always the priority but fire has taken so much history in the city it makes me sad.

The lower platforms aren't really open but trains are still passing through them just not stopping. Upper floor platforms are all termination tracks so they are closed.

Central itself isn't on fire. Or it wasn't 20 mins ago.

No casualties. Firefighters have been there since 4pm roughly.

On bbc website but can’t get link to share. It started about 4pm today but is currently still ablaze

peppermintteadrinker · 08/03/2026 22:14

Can't believe what I'm seeing. So very sad. I spent a few amazing years in Glasgow. First the school of art and now this. How on earth can it have spread to that level from vape shop? Horrific. Hope nobody is injured.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 08/03/2026 22:15

SoScarletItWas · 08/03/2026 22:14

It is horrible to see those buildings burning. Very much a recognised part of Glasgow even if not iconic or particularly pretty.

Exploding vapes. Things should be banned imo

YellingAway · 08/03/2026 22:20

That’s awful, such a beautiful building and the level of disruption this will cause will be huge.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 08/03/2026 22:20

I’m so sick of our historic buildings being destroyed by fire. Mostly deliberate. Someone is going to be killed.

This was my thought re bloody vapes. A shop full of cheap wee flammable items.

Biffsboys · 08/03/2026 22:26

The station itself is not on fire , the building is close to the station so that’s why it is closed . Hopefully they get it under control soon , I spent many good night out in that building 😔

Bookshops are also full of cheap flammable items!
Not that vapes and books are otherwise comparable by the way, or that books can just spontaneously combust…
