UCAS Applications for 2026 Entry

Following on from the very supportive thread for 2025 entry, I thought I would start a new one for 2026 as once more into the fray I go . . .

This will be a totally different experience for me this time as DC is applying for Art courses which require a portfolio to be submitted. She meets the standard grade requirements for all courses but I expect so much will be dependent on the portfolio?

Until recently she has been adamant that she doesn’t want to move away which greatly limited her options as there is only one university within commutable distance however I’m led to believe this Uni is very difficult to get into. She has now said that she’s “open to the idea of moving away” (too soon for me to be thinking of that, I’m still not used to the older one being away from home!)

I would love to hear from anyone else who has a DC applying for 2026, which subject they are applying for and which universities they are applying to ☺️

Excellent news… many congratulations. Fingers crossed there’s movement from Glasgow soon!

Thank you and hope your DC receives good news soon also 😀

Ds offered an unconditional for Edinburgh for computer science despite not getting the 5 As! One more uni to hear from!!!

Innisfree · 19/03/2026 18:36

My DD got an offer from Glasgow tonight for Common Law. She’s so delighted! Hopefully the offers are starting now.

gethighlikeplanes · 19/03/2026 20:39

Unconditional from Dundee! Just waiting on Edinburgh now . . .

Fabulous! Could our DC’s be classmates? DD got an offer for one course at Edinburgh yesterday but is waiting for the second course.

gethighlikeplanes · 20/03/2026 01:10

Yes! If my DD chooses Dundee then I think they could be ☺️

@Innisfreecongratulations to your DD! Is this her 1st choice. We are waiting patiently for Scots law !

thankyou! Yes it’s her first choice. She’s insuring Exeter. She is contextual (young carer) and was offered AAB as she’s doing A levels.

lovetrackerbars · 20/03/2026 13:22

@Innisfree brilliant news. She will love Glasgow

showyourquality · 25/03/2026 12:26

Dd finally got her Edinburgh offer, she is delighted. She just has the small matter of getting the grades now. But she is highly motivated.

Still waiting on Edinburgh here......

All others had offered before Christmas. Getting to the point where DC might just withdraw the Edinburgh application to get on with applying for accommodation

abdnhiker · 25/03/2026 19:14

My son’s girlfriend is still waiting on Edinburgh too - it’s so hard on them to still not know. It helps to know she’s not the only one - he keeps asking if there’s updates on Edinburgh on this thread.

He withdrew his application for Strath a month ago once he was sure his first choice was elsewhere - he figured it might help someone else who desperately wanted Strath to get an offer and it let him apply for accommodation and stop thinking about it which was good for him.

We’re still waiting for Edinburgh, it’s very frustrating as lots of offers have come out for art courses - fine art, fashion etc - but nothing for the one DD has applied for. This time last year my older DD had accepted her place, and applied for accommodation!

DD had an offer for fine art at Edinburgh, but the other course she applied for (the 5 year masters with history of art) she hasn’t heard about. I think she’s decided to withdraw her application and just accept Dundee.

It’s the accommodation at Edinburgh that’s stressing me out, it’s spread throughout the city and varies quite a bit in price. I’m less concerned about the ones that have accommodation on campus or in one area. I’m likely being a bit silly here because whether she gets an offer or not, there’s a good chance she won’t accept it (but I can’t help myself 😂).

So many of DD’s friends are waiting on Edinburgh. They are all arts and humanities. Science based offers came out ages ago. It’s such a stressful wait. Good luck all.

Jeezowhyisittough · 26/03/2026 13:26

Rejection from St Andrews unfortunately! The only one! A choice now needs to be made!

That's a shame, but with an Edinburgh offer and the new £20m investment at The University of Edinburgh in Quantum Computing, Edinburgh is a brilliant option. They also work closely with Heriot Watt who also have fantastic facilities. My DS has offers from St Andrew's and Edinburgh for a science subject and he is going to go with Edinburgh.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 26/03/2026 18:27

Does anyone have any experience of Glasgow rejecting because of one of the two joint honours subjects is full/competitive and being asked if they want to be considered for a different second subject? DS has just had a rejection for politics plus a subject which actually has a lower grade requirement. It’s the lower grade requirement subject that he seems to have been rejected for as he’s been asked if he want to be considered for politics plus something else as joint honours.

He’s a bit bemused that it seems to be the subject he exceeds the grade requirements for that he’s been turned down for!

tazzzzzzz · 29/03/2026 12:46

My Ds has offers from Glasgow and Strathclyde for History. Just waiting on Edinburgh. I hope it comes soon. He is in the strange position that his first choice has asked for less than his second choice, out of the two offers so far. So he doesn't have a back up option.

tazzzzzzz · 31/03/2026 22:29

Finally my ds has all his offers. He got an unconditional from Edinburgh so has a back up:-)

Jeezowhyisittough · 31/03/2026 23:39

My DS defo chose Edinburgh! Great choice!

showyourquality · 31/03/2026 23:44

Congratulations, tazzzzz

Chesticles · 01/04/2026 10:33

DDs friend got an unconditional from Edinburgh for History yesterday too. Her friend is over the moon as it was her top choice, and will definitely accept. My DD is still swithering, she can't decide between 2, but if off to an offers holders day next week so will have to decide after that.

Frustration247 · 01/04/2026 11:38

Anyone else still waiting to hear from Strathclyde? DD applied for psychology and education and yet to hear , All other offers in from Glasgow , Dundee and Stirling
