UCAS Applications for 2026 Entry

Following on from the very supportive thread for 2025 entry, I thought I would start a new one for 2026 as once more into the fray I go . . .

This will be a totally different experience for me this time as DC is applying for Art courses which require a portfolio to be submitted. She meets the standard grade requirements for all courses but I expect so much will be dependent on the portfolio?

Until recently she has been adamant that she doesn’t want to move away which greatly limited her options as there is only one university within commutable distance however I’m led to believe this Uni is very difficult to get into. She has now said that she’s “open to the idea of moving away” (too soon for me to be thinking of that, I’m still not used to the older one being away from home!)

I would love to hear from anyone else who has a DC applying for 2026, which subject they are applying for and which universities they are applying to ☺️

One of my youngest DD’s friends has been given an appointment for an interview for art at Glasgow, so fingers crossed that offers for art are starting to come out now!

That’s positive news however DD is getting to the point where she just wants to know either way - she’s worried her portfolio has let her down, I doubt that’s the case but there’s no telling her that.

Yes, this is what DD is worrying about too. She submitted it just before Christmas and is worrying that she should have submitted it later, giving her more time to work on it.

It’s so stressful for them!

Summer school offers were common at my DCs school (and all of my DCs friends found useful). I think you could join online if you are not within travelling distance. Agree not possible to work full time unless it’s just the Academic Skills module but could probably work substantial part time if you can move shifts to evenings/weekends and/or take a few days holidays..I think there was some allowances made on attendance.

That’s good to know it’s not a full time
mandatory session - thanks for the info! It’s one of those things that they really should tell you in advance is a possibility as it could be a deal breaker if you lived a couple hours away from the uni but in our experience the unis can forget that some of the students are not from the central belt.

My DN has just been rejected from 2 courses at Strathclyde 😢. She had the minimum entry requirements of AAABB, but didn’t even get a conditional. She is gutted as it was her top choice. Either course. She has an unconditional for Glasgow but it’s not her top choice of course. Waiting on Edinburgh now, but she really wanted Strathclyde

Do you mind if I ask what courses? We are also waiting for a response from Strathclyde but not feeling positive.

Chesticles · 02/03/2026 23:18

I’m not 100% sure of the exact courses but it’s would be finance economics accounting something along those lines

gracielooloo · 26/02/2026 20:20

Congratulations to those with offers, exciting times ahead!
Has anyone heard from Edinburgh, Glasgow or Strathclyde for Law?

My daughter is still waiting for Glasgow and Strathclyde for Law. Wish they would hurry up.

DD got an offer from Strathclyde yesterday so hopefully your DD will hear any day now!🤞

lovetrackerbars · 04/03/2026 00:38

@gracielooloohope you don’t mind me asking but what were your DDs grades? My DD waiting for Strathclyde and Glasgow for law. Her LNAT is ok but not great. She’s worried won’t get either offer. Her friend got rejected with 4A1B yesterday

My daughter has the same but she did exceptionally well in her LNAT. Some of her friends got rejected from Strathclyde a few weeks ago. One had 5As but they said it was due to his personal statement. I have no idea how it works.

Glasgow marks the LNAT essay part so I have been told it could be April before offers are out.

Good luck to everyone waiting.

She has 5 As, she’s also still waiting on Edinburgh and Glasgow.
On a side note what is considered a good LNAT score?
DD’s friend was also rejected with 4A1B.

lovetrackerbars · 04/03/2026 08:35

@gracielooloo@OneCraftyLurker my DD also has 5As and had heard that an offer is not a given with this at Strathclyde. She knows someone with 5As rejected last year.
Her 1st choice is Glasgow but LNAT is 23. She hopes it’s enough but reckon she won’t be in the first batches of offers. Will be a long wait. She was told Glasgow only look at essay when between a few students with borderline stats. A waiting game.

doingjustfinethanks · 04/03/2026 19:16

Lots of St Andrews offers coming out today
My DD has an unconditional for International Relations, we are over the moon :)
Good luck to everyone, it’s a nerve wracking wait

Jeezowhyisittough · 05/03/2026 13:02

Congratulations to everyone with offers!
anyone heard re computing courses from Edinburgh or St Andrews?

aquaaerobicschaos · 05/03/2026 15:37

Ds Just got unconditional from St Andrews, so delighted.
2 of his friends got computing offers from St Andrews last week.

Jeezowhyisittough · 05/03/2026 15:49

Did they get all As

aquaaerobicschaos · 05/03/2026 19:51

Jeezowhyisittough · 05/03/2026 15:49

Did they get all As

One got 1 b and 4 As but that was a contextual offer, others all As

doingjustfinethanks · 06/03/2026 13:57

Jeezowhyisittough · 05/03/2026 15:49

Did they get all As

Yes my DD did
Although i know a successful applicant last year who had 4As and 1 B. I saw her PS and it was very strong. Think St As put a lot of emphasis on the PS.

Innisfree · 06/03/2026 14:23

Just spotted this thread, great idea. My DD is applying for Law. She has offers from York, Newcastle, and Exeter so far. The one she really wants is Glasgow. She’s contextual as she’s a young carer for me. She’s sitting A levels (Strath student) so has predicted grades.

Jeezowhyisittough · 06/03/2026 15:02

My son get an unconditional for HW but still waiting on St Andrews and Edinburgh for computing. He got 4As and a C so just missed the unconditional grading!

Chesticles · 06/03/2026 16:16

DD has been rejected by Edinburgh. It wasn't unexpected, but still stings a bit. Anyway, thats her got all her offers now. She just needs to decide which one she accepts. At least the other 4 are all unconditional, so she can choose one, and doesn't have to wait for exam results.

Good luck to everyone still waiting.

gethighlikeplanes · 07/03/2026 00:23

@Chesticles that’s Edinburghs loss then! I read a comment somewhere else recently where the poster said “It’s not a rejection, it’s a re-direction” or something along those lines. I’m not sure if you said what your DD was applying for but with four great unconditional offers and a loving and supportive parent behind her she’ll be a flying success. Wishing you both all the best and hopefully see you soon on a “My DC is off to Uni - what should they pack?” thread ❤️

DC has unconditionals from.all except conditional from Edinburgh.

Jeezowhyisittough · 07/03/2026 11:56

Rough! Great grades! Strathclyde has become v popular! I think Edinburgh relies on its reputation a lot but they have been making a lot of cuts so as they said a redirection rather than rejection. We’re still waiting on EDI and St Andrews but I think DS will be lucky to get any offers from
them.
