UCAS Applications for 2026 Entry

Following on from the very supportive thread for 2025 entry, I thought I would start a new one for 2026 as once more into the fray I go . . .

This will be a totally different experience for me this time as DC is applying for Art courses which require a portfolio to be submitted. She meets the standard grade requirements for all courses but I expect so much will be dependent on the portfolio?

Until recently she has been adamant that she doesn’t want to move away which greatly limited her options as there is only one university within commutable distance however I’m led to believe this Uni is very difficult to get into. She has now said that she’s “open to the idea of moving away” (too soon for me to be thinking of that, I’m still not used to the older one being away from home!)

I would love to hear from anyone else who has a DC applying for 2026, which subject they are applying for and which universities they are applying to ☺️

That’s DD had her first offer for fine art - unconditional at Robert Gordon. Not her first choice but a relief nonetheless ☺️

Jeezowhyisittough · 14/03/2026 09:53

Fantastic! Still waiting on Edin and St Andrews!

Itawapuddytat · 18/03/2026 09:22

All offers in! Now decision time, most probably the first choice will be Glasgow and keep Edinburgh as the reserve.

gethighlikeplanes · 18/03/2026 10:05

@Itawapuddytat that’s great news! Well done to your DC and good luck with exams.

@User976467876544567 unfortunately DD got a rejection from GSA. It wasn’t unexpected but she was still gutted - more so because all her other choices will involve having to move and she’d rather stay at home (as would I 😭) However, she had a big auld cry and next day has picked herself up and moved on. Still waiting to hear from Edinburgh and Dundee.

Has anyone heard anything at all from Glasgow for law? DD is desperately wanting to firm it if she gets an offer. The waiting is interminable. Looks like offers were coming out by now over the last few years but there’s just been radio silence this year. 😩

Hapagirl48 · 18/03/2026 11:05

@gethighlikeplanes Sorry to hear that. I think these things happen for a reason though and your DD will end up in the right place. My DD got rejected from Edinburgh (first choice so she could live at home) but accepted at Glasgow. It’s a course that requires an interview so I think the one one that suits her best chose her. She did get an unconditional for another course at Edinburgh though but the Glasgow course is her dream so she firmed that with Edinburgh as her insurance even though it puts her out of her comfort zone. Your DD will get the right place!

We are still waiting for St Andrews, Glasgow and Stirling. Film studies / psychology. Anyone know about when these might come out? It's excruciating!

OneCraftyLurker · 18/03/2026 12:29

We are still waiting for Glasgow and Strathclyde for Law 😔

Jeezowhyisittough · 18/03/2026 13:23

Still waiting on St Andrews and Edinburgh for computing

gethighlikeplanes · 18/03/2026 14:07

Thanks @Hapagirl48 she wasn’t for listening to me on the day so I just let her get it all out, she’s picked herself up now and knows she has plenty of other options. Other than location, I personally didn’t feel that GSA was the right fit for her and as they’re well known apparently for not taking students straight from school she can choose to go to another uni or she can stay local and go to college, work on her portfolio and reapply to GSA.

So DD had a rejection from Glasgow yesterday, but unconditional offers from both Edinburgh and Dundee for fine art today! She wants to go to Dundee, so that’s both DD’s off to uni in Dundee (eldest is starting computer science at Abertay in September too)!

That’s excellent news! Well done to both your DDs, I’m especially pleased for your youngest (and you) as I know the stress of all this really gets to you ❤️

Strathclyde and Edinburgh Law offers received today. No news from Glasgow but should hear before the uni’s Offer Holders Day at the end of the month apparently 🤗

Fab! Well done to your young person! This is all very stressful for them. Youngest DD joked yesterday that she’d have to find something else to do with her time once her offers are in and she wasn’t checking her emails every two minutes 😂

@gethighlikeplanes I have a DC that went to college first, they chose that route rather than straight from school. When applying from college they received offers from all 5, including GSA and CSM. They felt they were much better prepared than if they had gone straight from school. I’m not saying college is for everyone but just wanted to share a positive view of college. They did an hnc at one of the Glasgow colleges.

@WhyIhatebaylissandharding thank you. It was always a long shot and to be fair she’s gotten over it pretty quickly. It really just depends on whether she wants to stay at home or if she’s prepared to move. I haven’t met many people that have gone to GSA straight from school and none of her friends (or her sisters friends last year) were accepted.
