Because they have learned nothing from Brexit. I mean, it's sort of their raison d'etre, banging on about independence and it does resonate with some of their fans who believe that should Scotland separate, we'd all be loads richer. They do appear somewhat confused though - a majority in parliament is a mandate, the biggest number of MSPs is a mandate, a vote for "pro-indy" parties is a mandate.... Anyone would think they were either making it up as they go along, or hedging their bets.

Are we supposed to forget all about the incompetence, the failing NHS and education, the scandals and all the other fuck ups?

So if you don't want to separate, don't vote SNP or Green in May.

John Swinney

How John Swinney plans to put his stamp on the SNP as election looms

There is a renewed emphasis on independence as the party meets less than a year before the Scottish election.

I define myself as both Scottish and British too. The UK is my country, as is Scotland. I see no conflict in that and don't appreciate randomers popping in to tell me I'm wrong.

This exactly. 100% British here. Lived in Scotland all of my life. I have lovely friends all over the British isles. I’m not insular, bigoted, with a big fat chip on my shoulder like some. I’m educated, work as a finance professional and know how horrendously damaging Scots would be. 8 x worse than Brexit was the estimated size of the damage last time. Brexit costs the UK approximately £30bn a year. That’s why I’d never vote for Indy and that’s why I’d never live in an Indy Scotland.

There are so so many ways Indy would damage Scotland, and all because those who’d watched brave heart thought it a documentary. Jeez.

"That’s why I’d never vote for Indy and that’s why I’d never live in an Indy Scotland"

That is your prerogative, I too work as a finance professional and you dont know anything if you think Scottish Exit from the Uk would hurt Scotland.

Its England that will be impacted.

I do hope you move when Scotland leaves the UK (for the sake of the other Scottish)

There is already a near record number of English people moving to Scotland.

"Many of us see the UK as our country."

It's not 🤣 THATS the problem.

It is our country. 😂 Your insularity is not our problem.

If you say so. You must be right Rob. You’re always right!

I'm right because I use facts, which if you wanted to you could look up.

Or why dont you just call me names instead? 😉

Pity.

The SNP always use them as a base for their “blueprints”. Salmond was a big fan of GERS.

No he wasnt. He was an Economist.

Ditto. I’m also a highly paid finance professional.

That the SNP’s “blueprint“ freely admits that Scotland couldn’t be lender of last resort, but that it’s ok because all the large financial institutions would have left Scotland anyway is mind boggling. 🙈

to paraphrase Pointless - by country, we mean something which is recognised by the United Nations as a state in its own right.

Pais Vasco, Lapland, Scotland, Kurdistan, Kashmir = not countries by that definition.

United Kingdom, Spain, France, China = countries by that definition.

You could be a proud Euskera speaker from Bilbao, wave the Basque flag and embrace the culture entirely, yet still also feel Spanish. Or are they all wrong too?

More rubbish.

Look back on the thread. Scotland now has Buchanan Wharf at 360 Million of investment. Lloyds of London, JP Morgan, Barclays and Morgan Stanley are all there in the last 5 years or so.

Its London that is haemorrhaging banks.

Like I said, it’s none of my business. I’ve always thought that the Scot’s should be allowed to separate if they want to.

I'd agree. We had a referendum and we decided that we didn't want to.

Countries and States are different things. (as will be seen very soon)

Your implication is that England is not a country. I dont believe you.

But this is a pretty boring conversation.

No he wasnt. He was an Economist.

That’s right. He was an economist who said that GERS were a kitemark document.

Salmond’s White Paper described Gers as "the authoritative publication on Scotland's public finances".
The SNP's Growth Commission blueprint for the finances of an independent Scotland also accepted the Gers figures as its starting point

You haven’t read the growth commission report have you?! 😂😂

RandomGeocache · 19/10/2025 15:45

FFS it's not hard. The United Kingdom is a big country/state made up of four smaller countries/nations (call them what you want). You can be both British and Scottish if you want to.

Nobody has the right to tell me or anyone else that I am wrong to define myself as both British and Scottish. Mind you, the Scotgov likes to gaslight people that the definition of "woman" includes Isla and his pink leggings.

No. You clearly haven’t read it. Nice attempt to change to conversation though. 😂😂

Yes, like the rest of the world I laughed and laughed at their ridiculousness. You know they just booked themselves a room right? There was no one there actually from the UN. What a bunch of fannies. 😂😂😂

Hi

I agree, Independence and self-determination are 'normal'

British Nationalism isnt.
