This WILL be interesting. Even if it doesn’t rid us of the SNP from Holyrood, it will provide a good barometer of public opinion on the recent exploits of the SNP.

Farewell Blackman and Black!

I'm in Mid Dunbartonshire - we are a new constituency and I'm not 100% clear what's changed. Under the old East Dunbartonshire it was always SNP or Lib Dem, maybe the changes mean that Labour are in with more of a shout.

My voting intention is to vote for the candidate most likely to keep SNP out so will have to look at that carefully.

Jollyvacance · 04/06/2024 12:52

I wish we had PR for Westminster - the SNP experience has taught me that these huge majorities lead to a lot of poorly scrutinised legislation and candidates becoming representatives that ought to have been weeded out due to a higher bar.

or I’m old and cynical maybe!

Jeezitneverends · 04/06/2024 15:38

@Disc0mbobulated i won’t be watching them for those very reasons. No more debate then fly in the air-they’ll all be comin on knowing EXACTLY what they want to say, and will say it no matter what the “debate” is about

treadingonlego · 05/06/2024 12:05

The desperation to keep people full of hate and onside is palpable on the SNP's Facebook page. Yesterday, regarding needing photo ID, they posted: 'Don't let Westminster block your vote in the Westminster election on July 4th'. I don't know how anyone can take them seriously now.

RaraRachael · 06/06/2024 11:04

Are we going to suffer the same here as in the US. Over there you have the blinkered, delusional Trump supporters who, regardless of what he has done will blindly follow and vote for him. Will SNP supporters do the same? I have a few FB "friends" who are staunch SNP supporters and are in denial of all the shenanigans saying that "They're just out to get Nicola - she hasn't done anything wrong" etc etc

I'm just scared there are enough of these kind of people that they might still get a lot of seats

treadingonlego · 06/06/2024 17:51

I think that's what the SNP are counting on, RaraRachael; and looking at All Under One Banner's page - which is starting to feel like a form of self-harm - I fear they have plenty of delusional support out there still.

But, oh my days, 9 seats would be comedy gold!! That article has cheered me right up!

Worries me too... there seems to be a rigid core of SNP and Tory voters who will vote for them regardless of their shite performance so far.

Gingerkittykat · 08/06/2024 15:22

We had an SNP canvasser chap the door this morning but my DD didn't shout me, probably because she didn't want me to embarrass her😇

She told them she wasn't sure who to vote for because of the SNP scandals, the canvasser said it would all blow over. There were no more questions, they just talked about the local candidate.

I wished I had answered the door and I would have told them I'd vote for them if Peter would let me have a shot of his camper van for the weekend!

Jeezitneverends · 09/06/2024 11:06

@Gingerkittykat I’m gagging for some of them to chap the door so I can ask them what a woman is!

Misthios · 09/06/2024 11:35

We have had the Lib Dem candidate round. A while ago, before the election was even called. I did say that I fundamentally disagreed with their stance on "gender" but that I would probably vote for them as the SNP were an even greater evil and I was happy to vote for anyone best positioned to give them a kicking.

mibbelucieachwell · 09/06/2024 15:55

Ooh I'm jel @Misthios . I'm in the same constituency as you and I'd love a visit from a candidate. Well done for bringing this up.

I saw a poll/prediction which had SNP/labour/ LD neck and neck here in Mid Dunbartonshire, but two others which reckoned it was between SNP and LD, which is of course how it's been for some time. I don't know how the additon of Lennoxtown and Milton of Campsie to the constituency will affect things. I'd have thought more snp and labour voters?

mibbelucieachwell · 09/06/2024 15:56

What was she like? I briefly met her a few years ago but I'd love to speak to her for longer.

I wonder if anyone is organising hustings ? Are there any hustings being held in other constituencies?

BigBoysDontCry · 09/06/2024 16:50

I had a visit from Labour today. Pointed out that I wasn't impressed with the candidate (he's a lazy fucker) and that I wouldn't automatically give my vote to Labour since they don't know what a woman is and they can feed that back.

However i did say that my priority is to try to oust the SNP candidate (who is also a lazy fucker and odious with it) so I'd keep an eye on the polls and choose from there.

The leaflet has a bar chart showing labour are a close 2nd to the SNP but it's completely without proper scale which also pisses me off as in reality it's using the national YouGov poll which is pretty meaningless in my constituency where Labour generally come 3rd. I think the Tory vote will remain steady so it's all about how much of the SNP vote goes to Labour...

Tories haven't fielded a good candidate either though so who the feck knows?

mibbelucieachwell · 10/06/2024 10:42

Douglas Ross to stand down as con leader in Scotland. Does this mean he'll also resign as an MSP?

WestEndWindy · 10/06/2024 10:44

BBC have said he'll resign as MSP if he's elected to Westminster

WestEndWindy · 10/06/2024 10:45

*re-elected

motheronthedancefloor · 10/06/2024 15:45

I dont believe for a minute that Douglas Ross used his expenses properly.

I think his deputy could be quite good if she takes his place.

Ruth was great though.

I feel completely politically homeless….
can’t vote SNP as fundamentally disagree with independence, can’t stand stance ignoring biological sex, they have made pigs ear of education/health etc, frustrations rd Nicola and her husband and mobile home etc etc
can’t vote green as their focus on gender etc seems to surpass all things environmental
can’t vote Labour as disagree with VAT on independent school fees. My livelihood will disappear before my eyes if that happens.
tories are just a no
do lib dems still exist?
spoiling my ballot paper seems a waste but so too does voting for the above parties- of which 0 candidates have made contact as yet!
how do you find out who your candidates are?

weebarra · 12/06/2024 22:17

I'm with you @mummywithtwokidsplusdog. I've never not voted since I've been old enough to. I even vote in council elections.
My constituency is traditionally Labour but we have a SNP MP at the moment.
I feel strongly about the women's spaces issue which only leaves me with the tories (no chance as I disagree with them on everything else) or Alba, who don't have a candidate in my area.
In most things, I'm ideologically Lib Dem.
We have both a reform and a libertarian party candidate. Weird!

Heatherbell1978 · 13/06/2024 06:41

@mummywithtwokidsplusdog I am with you here. Never have and never will vote Tory. Just no. Won't vote SNP as don't believe in independence (although I would have voted to leave the UK in the months following Brexit - still livid). Normally vote Labour but fundamentally disagree with taxing education and I'm sick to death of the narrative they've pushed there to make private school parents the root cause of evil (are we the new immigrants?).
I was researching Lib Dem's the other day and think I could align myself to them. Greens I've voted for before but they're on board with taxing education.

LeilaLettuce · 13/06/2024 06:48

Agree with this but my Lib Dem candidate supports self ID. So essentially no choices!

Lib Dems just as big on self ID and ditching women's rights as SNP, if not bigger. See the thread on Feminism board about the Lib Dem manifesto.

My worry is, if they went into coalition with Labour, they'd twist Labour's arm to be more extreme on these things, much life Greens & SNP in Scotland.
