So if Humza Youseless resigns... what next?

I have to admit I've not been paying attention really as Youseless, Salmond and that wee fanny Harvie give me the RAGE so I just end up swearing at the telly when they are on.

So if Youseless resigns - what next? The SNP elect someone else? Or we get an election? If he resigns, what happens about the votes of no confidence?

Who knows if he will resign, the SNP might push for another leader. I’m not convinced a vote of no confidence would win tbh. It doesn’t matter if he loses a vote it doesn’t automatically invoke the need for another election. There’s one next year anyway. I’m actually quite annoyed about the political opportunism of some to bring this vote, it’s basically time wasting and distracting from the abysmal conduct across the parliament.

Stu Campbell has some interesting articles looking at the variables.

Could she put her name forward when she's not an MSP?

Thevelvelletes · 29/04/2024 07:12

I don't know to be honest.

HirplesWithHaggis · 29/04/2024 07:13

She could be elected Party Leader (by party members) but would need to resign her Westminster seat and be re-elected (by constituents) to a seat in Holyrood. Then Parliament would need to elect her First Minister. So no, it won't be Mhairi - this time.

Thevelvelletes · 29/04/2024 07:15

Thanks for clearing that up,least that's one less nightmare that won't come true.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 29/04/2024 07:42

Based on the conciliatory language from Ian Blackford yesterday, I can see another scenario not suggested by Wings - Greens agree to a confidence and supply arrangement (rather than formal new Bute House agreement) on condition that HY resigns and there's a new SNP FM they can support, i.e. someone like Jenny Gilruth who shares their views on GRA etc.

Misthios · 29/04/2024 07:49

There's not a Scottish parliament election scheduled until May 2026 - 2 years. Are we going to be like N Ireland without a functioning parliament until then?

I think @TheGirlOnTheLanding has got it.
The SNP know they need the greens, the greens have totally spat the dummy with Humza so it looks like yet again the SNP will bow down to the greens and yet again do exactly as they wish which is the exact reason we are in the mess we are in.
The Greens will be even more insufferable if this happens and they think they can dictate what happens to the SNP, any woman or girl in Scotland should be very worried.
Also I hope it's not Mairi Black, that would be another disaster

Misthios · 29/04/2024 07:59

Mairi Black is a red herring, she is a MP in Westminster and not a MSP in Holyrood. I think she has announced that she is standing down at the next UK general election and might choose to run for Holyrood in 2026, but can't be first minister right now. (thank God)

Hahahhaha BBC just reported that "John Swinney is primed to take over in the interim".

What could possibly go wrong?

OP posts:
Chrysanthemum5 · 29/04/2024 08:14

Why not the deputy first minister? Oh right because that's Shona Robinson and no one, not even the greens thinks she should be in charge

TheThoughtfulCandlemaker · 29/04/2024 08:22

Maybe the Labour no confidence in the government vote will go ahead

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/04/2024 08:25

Thanks for the share token. I am an expat Scot and don't recall knowing this before:

Jenny Gilruth
Age: 39
Position: cabinet secretary for education and skills, MSP for Mid Fife and Glenrothes
An Aberdeenshire-born former teacher and a Fife MSP who is married to the former Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale.

Is Kezia still active in the Labour party?

Igneococcus · 29/04/2024 08:29

I don't think so @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g for a little while she had a column in the Times.

likepebblesonabeach · 29/04/2024 08:31

She is no longer an MP @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g, I don't know how active she is in the Labour Party though.

Igneococcus · 29/04/2024 08:33

" Kezia Dugdale is the director of the John Smith Centre, which makes a positive case for politics and public service. Before that, she served as a Member of the Scottish Parliament for eight years, leading the Scottish Labour Party for two years, going through four national elections and the EU referendum. Kezia is on the board of Sistema, a social transformation charity that uses music to help to foster teamwork, confidence and aspiration in children across Scotland. "
That's from her Times profile where she is listed as a contributor.

Just watching BBC breakfast and it looks like he is going to resign today which means the Greens have got their own way yet again.
Scottish politics is utterly depressing

likepebblesonabeach · 29/04/2024 08:46

I should say I don't want Humza to stay
