So if Humza Youseless resigns... what next?

I have to admit I've not been paying attention really as Youseless, Salmond and that wee fanny Harvie give me the RAGE so I just end up swearing at the telly when they are on.

So if Youseless resigns - what next? The SNP elect someone else? Or we get an election? If he resigns, what happens about the votes of no confidence?

Yes. But other issues of this nature will arise. And that is a concern.

What are these "issues"? No one in the UK is going to roll back on same sex marriage or abortion.

One I can think of is legalisation of prostitution. The Greens are in favour of that. A few years ago the Nats briefly discussed the possibility of introducing the Nordic Model. Didn't happen.

If "other issues" which Forbes might reject is any of the Green's oh so liberal "sex work is work" claptrap, she'd get my support on that one issue.

I don’t think he’s suitable either. With that and the donations to Hamas.

We don’t need religious leaders

Humza Yousaf sent money to Hamas? Have you told the police ?

Perhaps he just sent it to a Palestinian charity. I've sent money to a Palestinian woman in Egypt who I trust implicitly. Twice. I hope it will do some good in Gaza.

£750,000 of tax payers money and the in law's got into Egypt.

The worst bit of it is that FOREIGN AID IS NOT DEVOLVED!!!

We pay tax to the UK to be used in foreign aid. The Scottish budget is specifically for spending in Scotland on Scottish domestic services and benefits. Humza giving Scottish money overseas is like him deciding to start a Scottish army. It’s absolutely outrageous.

Newwwewww · 01/05/2024 08:33

This is what’s wrong with politics - all the judgment on personal beliefs on questions long since resolved, and no focus on who might be competent to run health and education - issues that affect us day in, day out.

we know Swinney isn’t competent to run education…or Gilruth.

we've had the right to abortion since the late 1960s, we’re not America, nobody is taking it away etc.

marshmallowmix · 01/05/2024 08:47

His In-laws got in to Egypt that is true …if he gave money to free them that is wrong …surely it should be looked into!!!

He simply did not have the nouse/intelligence nothing to make him suitable for FM…in fact he was utterly arrogant and a clown.

The Times published this atrocious hit piece by Kenny Farquharson today. I really don't think it's Katie Forbes who is coming across as the intolerant bigot here, and I'm saying this as a firm atheist, pro-choice, pro gay equality person.

Agree completely - the bigotry and intolerance of many on the left is becoming far worse than that of the christians they object to so much.

Appalling article.

It should be noted most SNP MSP’s, including potential FM candidate Kate Forbes, voted For the exclusion zones around Abortion Clinics Bill.

There were two exceptions,
John Mason( ,SNP, Rutherglen , urban) voted against and Humza Yousaf did not vote. He didn't vote on gay marriage either.

Jeezitneverends · 01/05/2024 08:55

I’ve decided to forego my principles and join the Scottish Numpty Party and stand for FM….Its worth it for the pension, and you only have to do it (badly) for about 10 minutes

Newwwewww · 01/05/2024 09:15

’the left’ has got to stop setting up extremist straw men - the greens and environmental issues aren’t being thwarted by a group of nazis on the ‘reactionary right’:

whats holding green issues back is the cost of measures in a cost of living crisis. Until they engage meaningfully with the problems things won’t move on and it’s playground football teams yelling at each other.

the snp have the same issue - as much as they try to say there would be some sort of post Indy boom in the fact of any facts, most folk know Indy will cost more money and most of us would rather that went on health and education for now.

Misthios · 01/05/2024 09:28

The issue was UNWRA - a united nations aid organisation. Most governments stopped funding it for a period as there were real concerns about how the aid was being managed and valid concerns that it was being used to fund Hamas rather than buying food and medicines. Humza Useless - the great leader he was - continued funding them.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/03/08/humza-yousaf-gave-250k-gaza-despite-official-advice/ Article paywalled but the first sentence tells you all you need to know.

That's £250k of money sent overseas, when overseas aid is not a devolved matter. £250k raised from taxes paid here which should have been used on schools, hospitals, fixing the fecking potholes rather than on Useless's personal vanity project which was at best an attempt to position himself as a global philanthropist, at worst a bribe to get his inlaws out.

The extremist straw man is definitely something I've seen a lot of, particularly on the left. Everyone who disagrees with a particular view is not a hard right nazi/american christian right/racist/homophobe etc. It's like there's an ever narrowing spectrum of acceptable views and you have to hold all of them to be a "good" person. And being politically right isn't inherently evil either. Neither extreme left nor extreme right are good places - but someone voting for mainstream right instead of mainstream left doesn't make them evil.

So many people have become so narrow and entrenched in their views. Then in Scotland we layer the polarisation around independence over the top.

Newwwewww · 01/05/2024 09:33

I don’t think it helps that by 14, you don’t have to take any of: history/politics/r&p/modern studies - so few are being taught to argue respectfully and be tolerant and why that’s important in the race to maths based subjects.

motheronthedancefloor · 01/05/2024 13:08

Neither Forbes nor Swinney have declared yet. They seem to be waiting to see whether the other will blink first.

JennyLake · 01/05/2024 14:14

I think they are waiting to see the outcome of the VONC….if Forbes announces there is a risk the green will not abstain and revolt.
Regardless if the VONC doesn’t pass (which it doesn’t look like it will at the moment) they will both announce after it…ie when they are safer.
if it does pass and government need to step down, then it is a different ballgame…I think Forbes will be on the stronger position. They are waiting it out to see whether they will be rebuilding the government from a place of relatively safety or leading a campaign election.

Or maybe it's what's wrong with religion.

Newwwewww · 01/05/2024 14:25

But politics is setup to manage health and education @tobee whereas religion is mostly private? Or you think we should return to the great evangelical campaigns for social reform of the later 19th c? Interesting!

JennyLake · 01/05/2024 16:44

Interesting watching the debate speeches.
Douglas Ross made a pretty powerful point about none of the currently serving ministers being brave enough to stand and two back benchers the lead runners in this race. That is a really appalling state of affairs. Sure the deputy FM should be the prime candidate (thank god she’s not) or at least one member of the serving cabinet in a position to lead…but no.
I almost couldn’t bear to hear Humza list out the SNPs so called successes….he is utterly deluded…reduced the attainment gap? Is that why Scottish education is in the gutter?

I think I may have heard the greens are not going for the vonc for SNP which means it’s unlikely

But a passing comment on the radio

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 01/05/2024 16:52

It's hilarious that no one has suggested Shona Robison. What's the point of deputy FM, if she can't step up when needed.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 01/05/2024 16:57

I see the Greens voted to keep their snouts in the trough.

Newwwewww · 01/05/2024 16:57

That’s why we need to get back to proper scrutiny of data - you can say those words if the stats have improved one month…despite a 15 year downward trend.

it’s the law of unintended consequences here - Yousaf thought he’d restrain the greens and we’ve ended up with the greens as SNP kingmaker.

it won’t be Forbes because the greens won’t like that.

For the love of god please no! To say she’s as thick as mince would be unfair to mince!

Abhannmor · 01/05/2024 17:44

So it was £750, 000 to Hamas.
Now it is £250k to a UN charity. Sigh.
