So if Humza Youseless resigns... what next?

I have to admit I've not been paying attention really as Youseless, Salmond and that wee fanny Harvie give me the RAGE so I just end up swearing at the telly when they are on.

So if Youseless resigns - what next? The SNP elect someone else? Or we get an election? If he resigns, what happens about the votes of no confidence?

Ash Regan?

No because she can't be because she's not a member of the SNP.

And no because she's absolutely bonkers and beholden to Salmond.

Misthios · 29/04/2024 08:59

Absolutely bonkers describes a good chunk of them, unfortunately.

Ash Regan would be a no from me.
I applaud her stance for fighting for woman and girjs rights but anyone who can possibly stand shoulder to shoulder with Salmond is a big no from me.
Plus she is only really a mouthpiece for Salmond

@TheGirlOnTheLanding

An informal agreement with the greens. How depressing.

Although it might lose the SNP more of their seats in Westminster?

MissBedelia · 29/04/2024 11:05

Please not John Swinney 🙈

MissBedelia · 29/04/2024 11:05

Will they need to elect a new leader?

Personally I think "absolutely bonkers" is an essential requirement to support separatism.

RaraRachael · 29/04/2024 11:27

It's very interesting that my previously very vocal SNP diehard FB "friends" have been very quiet since the Murrell and Humza stories broke.
Looks like even they can't defend them any longer

Ash Regan?

Not going to happen. The woman is bonkers. Her GC views are one thing but she is firmly in the "no need for a referendum, just declare independence and tell Westminster to shove it" camp. Presumably that is followed by "raise an army and sack York".

There will be two seperate elections. One to elect the new First Minister and one to elect a new Party Leader. It may be the same person or it may not.

I agree.

Humza giving press conference at noon and expected to announce his resignation then, apparently.

BigBoysDontCry · 29/04/2024 11:42

Well he lasted longer than he should have and longer than I expected, but I'm on the fence as to whether it would be better for him to stick around longer and do more damage or not 🤔

Plenty of time for the next incompetent shoved in to fuck things up more before the next election though so there is that....

CamaMass · 29/04/2024 12:06

He's resigned

mibbelucieachwell · 29/04/2024 12:07

Staying in post until a successor is voted in.

AliCantI · 29/04/2024 12:08

As ever he’s out of synch.

AliCantI · 29/04/2024 12:08

God he’s milking it.

AutumnCrow · 29/04/2024 12:08

I switched to Sky that's more in sync than the Beeb.

AutumnCrow · 29/04/2024 12:11

Fuck me, Humza wanging on about trust and principles and his wonderful wife is too much. And he's sad and proud. His little heart is breaking ...

Seeingadistance · 29/04/2024 12:13

Looking at those two saltires behind Humza, I find myself wondering why no union flag, and also when did the Scottish Executive become the Scottish Government and why was that allowed to happen?

I voted for devolution - one of the biggest regrets of my life. What we have now is not what I anticipated and not what I voted for back then.

eileandubh · 29/04/2024 12:14

Is he going on and on and on in the hope that by the time he's finished they'll have forgotten what he stood up to say in the first place?

Seeingadistance · 29/04/2024 12:19

Also, if he continues as FM till his successor is found, then can the vote of no confidence still proceed?

Misthios · 29/04/2024 12:23

I find myself wondering why no union flag

Come on @Seeingadistance - you know the answer to that one. Because scot;and is special and different and look, we have our own flag and everything. And therefore independence is the only option. An SNP politician would no sooner stand in front of a Union flag than fly to the moon. Their supporters boycott brands like Tunnocks which have the temerity to use the "butcher's apron" on their packaging.

15 or 20 years ago I would happily have worn something with a Saltire on it, no longer. It's turned from a flag we could all get behind into a symbol for the SNP and other associated yessers.

The vote of no confidence can proceed. If it is lost then the SNP have 28 days to find a new FM and get vote of confidence passed in the Scottish Parliament.

The FM does not have to be the party leader. That election will take longer and may or may not be the same person who becomes FM.

BusyMintCrab · 29/04/2024 12:32

Surely we’ll have to have an election soon?
