I loathe the Scottish Government

I loathe the Scottish Government. I want to see the SNP/Green Party coalition roast in hell! They can take any MSP who voted for the Gender Reform Bill or the Hate Crime Laws with them. Is it now a hate crime for a Scottish Woman to say that?

I couldn't agree more. Make healthy decent meals of age appropriate portions and use the systems available to ensure that there is no stigma. If facilities are an issue then a decent packed lunch would be better than hotdogs.

Is there a restaurant in the Scottish Parliament - see if you can get a comparison of the menu into a newspaper

Scottishskifun · 11/09/2024 15:01

DS1 has just started school our area at least on the most part they are healthy, desert most days is a piece of fruit option. There is a option each day less so (pasta, sausages, a roast) but on the whole they are good.

What I don't get is saying do it for some in primary and not the last few years to me either do it or don't!

If it's anything like Westminster it will be best of the best and heavily subsidised.
Aren't a lot of school meals made off site and just reheated slop?.

Years and years ago I attended a meeting at St Andrews House. We were relative minions normally lucky if we got a coffee and custard cream, but because a couple of us had travelled some distance they ordered lunch. There was some mix up and instead of the usual plates of slightly curling ham/cheese/tuna sandwiches we got a platter of fancy baguettes, hor d’oeuvres, cakes and pastries which we assumed was normally served to them upstairs (we were appropriately in the basement). Sadly at our second meeting months later the usual sad sandwiches appeared.

Not sure about Holyrood, but I occasionally worked in various govt office building canteen in Edinburgh back in the 80s and the food was good and subsidised. They also had tea trollies selling home baking etc that went round the building.

Most schools no longer have facilities to properly cook on site so they either have food delivered ready to eat or can warm it only. Meals tend to be overcooked warm mush by the time they are delivered. Portion sizes for a tiny 5 year old and a hulking 12 year old are supposed to be the same but by the time the older kids are served there often isn't much left and they end up with a mix of whatever there is. This isn't a reflection on the staff who are probably doing their best under the circumstances but when compared to what kids were given 40/50 years ago, it's pretty sad.

School meals then were cooked by cooks in the school and served hot and fresh. Don't think they really had choices then but it was more of an eat what you are given time. No vegetarians or allergies or religious beliefs catered to. It was take it or leave it and either go home or bring your own in.

Much better to prioritise only subsiding kids who need it and increasing the quality and quantity.

Just been browsing Twitter and laughing at the nats now attacking the greens for voting against the SNP on free school meals and peak rail fares.

Lots saying they'll never vote for them again because they voted with the tories. That they're being used in a unionist plot to bring down the government.

Astonishing. Well not really. Just shows that independence trumps all. Do they really expect the greens to vote against policies they helped introduce? 🙈

God I long for a time when the constitutional question doesn't dominate everything in Scotland.

On the news this morning - the Glen Sannox which was due into service in 2018, yes 6 years ago, is delayed AGAIN.

KielderWater · 13/09/2024 08:55

They can’t finish it and hand it over. Whilst they keep delaying it they can hold taxpayers to ransom for more money.

I wish they'd hurry up.

Rainbowshit · 13/09/2024 12:47

FFS. Another complete waste of our money. 🙈 banning Branded glasses will make zero impact on deaths. Any fool can see that. 🙈

It has taken longer to build the Glen Sannox than it took to build the QEII! In fact, I think it will take longer to get the Glen Sannox from being launched to being in service, than it took to build the QEII from starting to lay down the hull. It’s taken longer to build the GS than to build the Titanic - though I accept this may not be the best comparison.

They would probably be quicker scrapping it and starting again from scratch even now…

KielderWater · 13/09/2024 14:00

Not at that yard though, obviously.

BigBoysDontCry · 13/09/2024 14:14

And not being funny, but would anyone else feel a bit unsafe travelling on it after all that has gone on?

I suspect we may never get the chance.

I suspect you are correct.

For me the whole ferry fiasco sums up the Nat government
Incompetent and corrupt

Thevelvelletes · 13/09/2024 19:50

Islanders will be using teleportation by the time that ferry is ready...beam me up Hamish or Mhari.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 16/09/2024 19:56

This isn't strictly Scottish Government but a general failure of good governance by multiple agencies. And as one of the comments below the line points out it apparently came to light because the landlord of the house applied for an access order so they could check the condition of the house.

"Ghost" child

Misthios · 16/09/2024 20:00

Bloody hell @IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle . That's shocking. GIRFEC my arse. GIRFEC went right out of the window in 2020 when the only thing which mattered for 2 years was Covid.

KielderWater · 16/09/2024 20:54

Getting it right for every council?
