I loathe the Scottish Government

I loathe the Scottish Government. I want to see the SNP/Green Party coalition roast in hell! They can take any MSP who voted for the Gender Reform Bill or the Hate Crime Laws with them. Is it now a hate crime for a Scottish Woman to say that?

So it was for work? What particular part of his role involves going to football matches?

I appreciate that some people do have jobs that require them to participate in providing hospitality or sometimes public figures need to attend things to support their constituency members/businesses or public events. This doesn't fit into those circumstances as far as I can see.

Times article

Gray was not the only government minister to use a ministerial car for trips to sporting fixtures, with Mairi Gougeon, the rural affairs minister, travelling to Murrayfield to watch Scotland play rugby, declaring the trip as promoting aquaculture.

It’s all just bollocks. He’s the health secretary. Nothing to do with sport. Not sure what makes me sicker - the blatant grifting, or the rest of them being so desperate to justify it.

Rugby and aquaculture are intrinsically linked, dontchaknow.

Am pretty sure that meeting could have been held in an office, Mairi.

KielderWater · 11/11/2024 23:14

Companies often entertain potential clients but if the government needs the lure of rugby to speak to industry then something is very wrong. But I guess when Biffa is suing them for £200 million then I can see why industry might be reluctant to speak to them.

Stephen Flynn planning to stand for Holyrood, and keep his Westminster seat. I don't agree with Douglas Ross's politics, but why was he castigated for doing the same thing, but nothing is being said about Flynn's plans.

Riding the gravy train for all it’s worth.

For goodness sake, they think we button up the back!

He says he won't take two salaries but neither did Douglas Ross - press reports said he donated one of them to charity. It's a poor deal either way for the constituents who are being short changed in representation - nobody can be simultaneously in hte Scottish parliament raising issues about education and health, and in the UK parliament talking about defence and foreign affairs. Salmond did it for years though so it's par for the course for scottish politicians.

KielderWater · 12/11/2024 09:29

That would still be taking two salaries. The fact you decided to spend one by donating it to your choice of charity does not change that anymore than it you spent it on a campervan.

Misthios · 12/11/2024 09:34

Well that's true. You're still trying to do two full time jobs simultaneously.

Tomorrowisanewday · 12/11/2024 09:38

The issue is can he do both jobs competently in the interest of his constituents, which I dont think he can. This is more about the start of his campaign to become leader of the SNP.

Geoff Aberdein was quoted as saying he hoped the existing MSP for that constituency, Audrey Nicoll, could perhaps stay as a list MSP. Big of him.

Misthios · 12/11/2024 09:47

Yes, if I was Audrey I would be none too pleased.

KielderWater · 12/11/2024 10:09

If trying to do two jobs in two places hundreds of miles apart, then presumably he is expecting the tax payer to pay for his constant travel between the two points?

In fairness, you could argue that promoting sport is a part of improving public health, @Misthios - but even so, I think using chauffeur driven, ministerial cars to get there is off.

SirChenjins · 12/11/2024 16:19

There absolutely is a link between public health and sport - so let’s see him doing the wheeling, walking and cycling his Govt are so keen to tell the rest of us we should do. Active travel and all that…

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 12/11/2024 17:28

An excellent point, @SirChenjins!

Misthios · 12/11/2024 18:50

Will never tire of seeing that. A classic.

Or walk, or use the cycle lanes ruining our streets! God forbid, you are disabled, just get on a bike!

Totally agree , it’s ok for us to get driven everywhere whilst rest of you can cycle in our must have them everywhere psycho lanes, god forbid you get old either.

Bejazzled · 14/11/2024 10:33

As a mum who’s child was bullied this makes me sick with rage.

I loathe the Scottish Government
Misthios · 14/11/2024 22:11

Fucks sake.
