I loathe the Scottish Government

I loathe the Scottish Government. I want to see the SNP/Green Party coalition roast in hell! They can take any MSP who voted for the Gender Reform Bill or the Hate Crime Laws with them. Is it now a hate crime for a Scottish Woman to say that?

Another reason to hate the government - meddling in exam papers/syllabi. I have just invigilated H English and had a good read of the paper.

The RUAE paper was a manifesto in favour of electric vehicles, one of the govt#s pet projects along with the low emissions zones.

The second paper had two poems (one by Burns, one by some other writer) which were not in standard English but in "Scots", which the SNP never tire of telling us is a whole distinct language, as different to English as French or Arabic. So why are these texts lumped in with English exams, why is there no separate Scots exam?

There was also a passage from "The Cheviot, the Stag and the Black, Black Oil by John McGrath" where two upper class English characters are talking enthusiastically about the Highland clearances and being downright nasty to their working class Scottish employees. Haven't read the whole text or seen the play - but taken in isolation it's incrediby anti-English.

@misthios The author was born in Birkenhead!!

Misthios · 09/05/2024 16:33

And? Doesn't alter the subject matter of the chosen text. Many members of the Scottish government were not born in Scotland.

Timetodownsize · 09/05/2024 16:48

Interesting that Patrick harvie focuses on Kate Forbes religious beliefs around gay marriage but conveniently ignores the attitude of the Cathoilc church and of Islam to this. Kate Forbes was either not an MSP or was on maternity leave when there was the vote on gay marriage - when Humza suddenly had an appointment he couldnt miss !

The subject matter is so socialism.

Your comment is rather ridiculous..

Interesting - that’s not what the Act quite clearly states. It would be helpful if the SP could clarify that in the context of the Act.

The FM used to receive 50% of salary prior to the 2009 Pensions Act being passed. Alex Salmond was the last first minister to receive 50% of their final salary as a pension. Salmond held the post from 2007 to 2014 and was eligible for the scheme given he entered office before the 2009 Act came into force.

SirChenjins · 10/05/2024 09:05

It’s the 2009 Act that states FM’s are entitled to an annual pension equivalent to 50% of their office-holder salary payable from the day after ceasing to hold office, irrespective of their length of service in the post or their age.

From what you’re saying, that must have been replaced by a subsequent piece of legislation which removes that entitlement and means they now only receive a fraction of what they’ve had previously (which seems unlikely, but hey) - which legislation is that, do you know?

New reasons to loathe the Scottish government

Kids who get As all year getting Cs and fails and the prelim process changing so that you can't really do much abou tit.

Humza wanting to go to Pakistan with his family as Scotland is no longer 'safe' for them, after us Scottish taxpayers paying for his family to escape Gaza. So much for being a proud Scottish nationalist. His plan was to leave all along.

Liverpoolma123 · 07/08/2024 08:37

@motheronthedancefloor

Tommy Robinson is that you?

BigBoysDontCry · 07/08/2024 08:59

Glad to see the attainment gap is closing....oh wait, they've failed there too....bunch of cretins

annabelindajane · 13/08/2024 10:02

Humza and his free mobile phones for prisoners during covid so that they could use them for nefarious activities. Cost the tax payer 6 million before someone decided it was a bad idea

Misthios · 13/08/2024 10:11

I also see that Swinney hasn't ruled out using our money to pay Humza Useless's legal bill should he decide to take on Elon Musk.

Now I think we can all agree that Musk is a fanny, but this is not what I pay tax for.

You don't need to support Tommy Robinson to be appalled by Humza's tone deaf proclamations about leaving the UK.

BigBoysDontCry · 13/08/2024 10:55

I thought Humza was moving to Pakistan? We could find a one way ticket for that instead. I'd happily have my taxes spent on that

WTF?! We may pay for his dock swingin Twitter spat?!?! No.

Motheranddaughter · 15/08/2024 08:43

Just heard that Shona Robison on Radio Scotland
She is totally out of her depth
They have given the bin collectors a pay rise and are now trying to figure out how to pay for it
Would be the other way around in private business
And has just said the last thing she wants to do is cut the cold weather payment to pensioners, when in fact it is the first thing they have done
Surely competent financial management is the very least we should expect

medianewbie · 15/08/2024 10:54

When oh when is Operation
Branchform going to conclude? (with prosecutions hopefully ...)

It does seem ridiculous that it has been going on for over 3 years now. For everybody's sake it needs to be concluded one way or another.

I'll help her save a bit of cash... scrap the baby boxes, means test free prescriptions/eye tests, scrap the free period products everywhere, stop pissing money on embassies and trade delegations and other nonsense to reinvent the UK government's efforts, serious look at tuition fees at Uni, dropping the limit for free bus and dentistry from 25 to 21 or 20.

SirChenjins · 15/08/2024 13:16

Yep to all of that @Misthios - and that's just for starters. No more vanity projects or free hand-outs - unless it comes under the heading of directly improving the economy, health or education, it doesn't qualify for funding. If there's anything left over then it can be assessed.

Yes, yes, yes and I will add another one - stop plunging millions and millions into shipyards that are clearly incapable of making ferries.

Misthios · 15/08/2024 13:36

And Prestwick airport. I heard them yesterday rabbiting on about H&M wanting to close a call centre in edinburgh and the government getting involved - just NO. Stick to government and let private businesses sort themselves out.

HappierTimesAhead · 15/08/2024 19:35

BBC article: The Fraser of Allander Institute (FAI) said a major part of the budget issue was due to a “lack of prudent planning” by Holyrood ministers.
FAI deputy director and senior economist Joao Sousa said while the SNP government had "limited room for manoeuvre", the spending freeze was foreseeable because ministers did not set a public pay policy in advance.

SirChenjins · 15/08/2024 21:30

Lack of prudent anything - they run Scotland like they’re playing at being a Government with absolutely no accountability or real care for the big grown up things that actually matter.

Newwwewww · 16/08/2024 07:32

Just a bit - Scotland’s deficit now £22.7 bn - and Shona blames the UK for cuts!

more of that to come.
