I wonder how the search for new auditors is going. Its all gone quiet on that front.

Sugarfree23 · 01/05/2023 22:53

Given the investigators are meant to be investigating 1500 transactions my guess the £400k has gone on all sorts of stuff, campervan, cars, general expenses visits to other countries checking out for independence.

If the reports that the police were digging up the backgarden are right do they have something valuable under the washing green?

storminamooncup · 02/05/2023 09:16

Who could potentially be jailed though, it seems so many SNP people were involved in potential embezzlement or whatever its called. The whole thing is so bizarre.

Sugarfree23 · 02/05/2023 09:38

The people who were in charge of the bank accounts. Are the obvious people to be charged, especially if they can be proven to have been buying personal items with SNP money.

I still find it baffling that for all the wrong and damage that Sturgeon and co have caused this country…that the downfall is resulting from something so ridiculous as buying some garden tools and fancy pens with the petty cash. I know that is a vast simplification but still… the crippled state of health, transportation, public services and the heartbreaking crumbling standards of education. That’s what I want them held to account for. I can’t believe their arrogance and incompetence is such that they have tripped themselves over for something so…ridiculous?!

They found a graveyard of mistreated le creuset pots.

Tears were shed when they saw what had been done to the enamel. Minutes of
counselling will be required to support the officers through the trauma.

Sugarfree23 · 02/05/2023 10:37

It wouldn't surprise me if lots of money was spend on holidays under the guise of building international relations in prep of independence.
Bit like the camper battle bus.

But I also think they've become blasé on using the works credit card thinking nobody will notice.

Chersfrozenface · 02/05/2023 11:38

Was there someone else signing off the expenditure on the works credit card? Because there ought to have been.

Good grief, I was once chair of a fairly small organisation but we did have a chief exec. That chief exec's expenditure on travel etc had to be reported to me every month and I checked every item before signing off on it.

SirChenjins · 02/05/2023 15:15

Presumably the people signing off the credit card spending were either told to or face The Consequences, or they were in on the scam.

‘ Scottish Government makes rushed and unclear decisions’

Fifteen high ranking former politicians and a number of officials gave evidence to the finance committee s inquiry into effective decision making within the Scottish Government . They mention Nichola’s tightly centralised administration where her views were given priority and that there is a need for more economists and analysts within civil service .

They also needed more commercial experience, private sector experience and ability to understand negotiating tactics .

Just who exactly are they employing ?

Im sure everyone on here knew all this .

Of course Scotgov does not agree with the report .

SirChenjins · 02/05/2023 18:00

Sounds like a fair summary. Scotland has always relied heavily on the public service for jobs so the Scot Gov has built on that and used their influence (esp around funding) as leverage. They tend to hold the private sector at arms length and see it as an extension of right wing Tory capitalism.

It depends but you will probably find the ones with good experience left due to hitting a brick wall!

To attract those sorts of roles with the right level of background you have to offer a reasonable package compared to private sector or specialist enhancements. There is also a lot more emphasis put on graduate training programmes rather then attracting more experienced personnel.
But would you apply to the Scottish civil service with all this going about I sure as hell wouldn't. I also don't believe in using Civil servants as a scape goat who will have been told to get on with it if they raised concerns!

RandomGeocache · 02/05/2023 19:22

It's really sad what Scotland has turned into. I am currently writing my Master's dissertation all about Scottish people in the 1860s and one of the major themes is Empire. At that time Scottish people (well, men tbh) were in very senior positions in Canada, India, Australia, New Zealand. We were building more ships than anywhere else in Europe and exporting paddle steamer ferries to Spain at the rate of 1 a month - and now we can't even build one sodding ferry. We were attracting people from all over Europe into Glasgow and Edinburgh to educate our young ladies in dancing and foreign languages.

Now we have a shitty parliament, with corrupt, shitty politicians.

😂😂 11 years for them all. Hehe.

Shelefttheweb · 02/05/2023 20:19

It also comes back to education. Poor education, students given access to universities based on postcode, and lack of critical thinking at those universities, works its way through society.

And, of course, higher taxes for high achievers who are also highly mobile.

LongWhiteCar · 02/05/2023 21:49

@RandomGeocache that’s very interesting and demonstrates the reach of the Scottish work ethic, ambition, talent, education and for want of a better word, guts.

I’m interested in the cultural, societal changes that have taken place since the SNP have been in power.
Yes, we can all be disappointed in our politicians and justifiably so, but there is a huge swathe of the electorate who have embraced these politicians and their ideology.

I struggle to imagine my parents accepting a baby box, for example.
They were very young parents, poor by any standards but they were working and understood what real poverty was.
They were also extremely proud and had an incredible work ethic.
As far as they were concerned there were people who needed support far more than them.
They contributed to society in every sense of the word.
I believe there’s a fair bit to be admired from that generation much of which seems to have been lost for the sake of popularity and cheap sound bites.

Shelefttheweb · 02/05/2023 21:57

It is interesting to see just how many new baby boxes have been donated to Ukrainian appeals. It does rather raise the question of how much of a waste of money they are if so many people are able to pass them on unopened.

LongWhiteCar · 02/05/2023 22:15

That’s good to know that people are donating them to the Ukraine.
Baby boxes weren’t a thing when I had my DC and I can’t imagine being comfortable accepting them.

I wonder if Nicola is going to get away with all of this.
Despite the never ending amount of shite surrounding the Scottish Govt, it seems to have gone a bit quiet with regards to her.

HirplesWithHaggis · 03/05/2023 03:01

Baby boxes are not forced upon you. You sign up to receive them. If you don't want or need them, don't apply for one.

Exactly, they should be pulled apart for decimating Scotland. That's where the real issues lie but if it's playing fast n loose financially that fucks them up I'll take that all day long.

Yes but sadly the majority of people will take a freebie if it is going. Same with free prescriptions…why spend 50p of your own money on paracetamol when you can get it on prescription for free (but costing the NHS £12 a pop or something ridiculous). People are shameless. 8 out of 9 of my NCT class took the baby box despite being able to afford to do NCT.
