It just blows my mind that these people have held such high office and they show it nothing but complete contempt. All of them every party across the UK they just want power.

Where the hell is Sturgeon? She should get her arse in gear and do the media rounds she normally does.

Urgh the whole thing just stinks

KnittingNeedles · 05/04/2023 17:42

She'll be keeping a VERY low profile. For someone who's prolific on social media, her Twitter account has not had any activity since 30th March. Not even a "what I'm reading" tweet.

ThatsGenderwang · 05/04/2023 17:42

Jim Sillars on Sky now

BlueThursday · 05/04/2023 17:45

I thought I’d commented but cant see it so apologies if this is a duplicate

my knowledge extends only to episodes of Taggart but isn’t being arrested more serious than being detained? So they just have something to go on

BlueThursday · 05/04/2023 17:45

Must not just

ThatsGenderwang · 05/04/2023 17:46

Former SNP Leader Jim Sillars is fuming.

Nicola - 'cult of personality'

Re Nicola and Murrell - Murrell should have been moved from CEO position, it's now 'an unholy mess'

KnittingNeedles · 05/04/2023 17:48

As someone said way up the thread, most organisations have rules about close relatives working together whether it's husband and wife, sisters, parent and child. One person would be moved to another location or department.

But it's perfectly A-OK for the First minister to be married to the leader of the party and nobody said hang on, isn't this just a wee bit incestuous?

Hedjwitch · 05/04/2023 13:49

Surely its all Westminster's fault and lessons will be learned

Sadly, already seen comments similar to this.

ismu · 05/04/2023 18:01

@KnittingNeedles there is no way that you can compare the tories and the SNP, the corruption in the present UK government is unprecedented and anyone that wants to act as an apologist for the disgusting actions of Suella Braverman, the legislation to make striking illegal, attacks on workers rights and now on equal pay ( coming to you soon from the ECHR) - the list goes on.
The SNP have largely been a force for good in Scotland and child benefits they've brought in to mitigate the worst of universal credit and managing to hold public services together with string slightly better than down south- maintaining child poverty levels while they have skyrocketed in England isn't exactly marvellous but it's the best that could be done. And despite what anyone here says, they have been popular and for a good reason because less well off people as well as the middle classes have benefited from their policies. Labour = jam tomorrow but never ever today ....
But I will never ever vote Tory. They are despicable.

Interestingly, Jim Sillars just said live on Sky News that senior people did say this, including himself and Alex Salmond, but that such people were then 'marginalised within the party'.

What's the tent for outside the house?! It's almost like there's a body in there?! 🤔

It may be an evidence tent/SOCO registry/mobile office.

As stuff is removed from the house, it's tagged, bagged and logged in the evidence register by the Evidence Officer.

It helps to save confusion between seized stuff and the rest of the property contents.

Quite. Nice attempt at diverting the narrative from the SNP corruption though.

SirChenjins · 05/04/2023 18:14

Bollocks they have.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 05/04/2023 18:15

Why are the tories even being mentioned. This is not about that.

This is about the fact that the husband of the until very recently first minister has had his home and HQ raided and been arrested.

Surely even the most ardent SNP supporter can see this is corruption to the core of the party. If you truly believe the SNP are the best political party for Scotland then is it not in your best interest to be absolutely up in arms about this? Furious that they have wasted serious political capital covering up their dodgy dealings?

All of politics is rotten. Power corrupts. But this about what is happening in Scotland not the bloody tories for once.

PersonaNonGarter · 05/04/2023 18:18

to some far more serious allegations

Urgh @ismu your whataboutery is ridiculous. Peter Murrell is being arrested for what looks like theft or fraud - money stolen from donors by the party Chief Executive and Spouse of the First Minister.

Why are you pretending that Westminster has anything even approaching this serious? Who precisely in Westminster do you accuse of this?

Again, this is why Scotland is screwed. People genuinely think Westminster is the same or worse. It’s an intellectual giant beside Holyrood.

KnittingNeedles · 05/04/2023 18:20

Why are the tories even being mentioned. This is not about that.

Because the SNP faithful have nothing left. How can you defend an organisation which is so lacking in transparency that it allows a husband and wife to run the show, with no checks and balances? It's the way the SNP operate - their MSPs and MPs are not allowed to deviate from the party line and vote against the party, or they get chucked out, like Joanna Cherry or Ash Regan. All the minions toe the line and do as they're told. That is not a healthy situation whether you're talking about the SNP, the united Nations, or the fucking Brownies.

This is the divisive, lacking in respect culture which Sturgeon has created in Scotland. If you're not "yes yet" then you are toxic, anti-Scottish, a "toary", persona non grata. There is no respect, no tolerance and acceptance of other points of view.

I don’t like her, but to be fair there is nothing really she should be saying right now.

Anything she says beyond “obviously I will help police with any enquiries” is unnecessary and potentially troublesome for the police investigation at this point.

Lighthearted comment -

I’ve seen the same dog being walked in the background on a couple of clips now.

I can’t stop laughing at the vision of some poor dog being dragged out for 3361962299 walks today while the owner does their nosy 😂

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 05/04/2023 18:36

@YetMoreNewBeginnings you are right. I'm just raging. Never off the bloody airwaves usually but you do make a valid point. I was on my high horse a bit there because I thought surely this was one thing that could not be spun to the tories are worse.

Aye they are a shower of shite but have very little to do with how Scotland is run. I'm away for a glass of wine and to just try and be greatful it is all finally falling apart.

I truly don't get the Tory comparisons. I mean these posters truly believe all Tories are evil incarnate, but the best they can come up with is "at least we're better than them". Is that the best you've got? Is the bar truly set that fucking low?

Hands up, I'm an English former Labour voter so I don't really have a dog in the fight but I always hoped Scotland could show how well things could be run without the Tories. I'm outraged that this shower have taken the piss so much that they look to be running Scotland like some tin pot country full of mates doing favours and looking the other way. Where is your sense of betrayal at the wasted opportunity?!

@LongWhiteCar @KnittingNeedles
Ok what do you believe in ?
I suppose SNP members were naive enough to believe that a married couple at the top of the party is not a problem. The problem is it's obviously a weakness which can be exploited to divide and conquer.
I still hold that £600k is peanuts compared to the sums given out to friends and family in WM during covid, and no, I won't be quiet about this because a) it's highly relevant- if Westminster is so great and Holyrood so awful, then we should be able to compare the two and b) double standards and hypocrisy are par for the course for the people who are getting out the popcorn for this. I'm assuming that no one on here takes free prescriptions, uni education for their DCs and you all send back your baby boxes.
I'm disgusted if Murrell has been up to more than has been revealed so far, but to be honest the case to date hasn't got much to go on- it's essentially a civil case within a private organisation. Two wrongs don't make a right, but maybe he could just pay it all back with a nice loan arranged the chair of the BBC and we will say no more. There's nothing to see when that happens in Westminster, why is it an issue - oh yes, the SNP...
