Burner phones? Sounds more like an Ocg than a government.

ThatsGenderwang · 23/04/2023 01:02

So who’s Martin Compston playing again?

ThatsGenderwang · 23/04/2023 06:59

It emerged yesterday that SNP MP Stuart McDonald has replaced Colin Beattie as party treasurer.

From today’s Daily Record.

TheBelmont · 23/04/2023 07:09

McDonald is neither a chartered accountant or a qualified treasurer as far as I can see. Surely it couldn’t have been such a huge ask to find someone in the party with appropriate qualifications!

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 23/04/2023 08:06

He’s an odd choice.

I think he’s a “see it’s not all my pals I’m appointing” choice from HY.

Sugarfree23 · 23/04/2023 08:26

Probably the only person daft enough to want it.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 23/04/2023 08:59

It’s an interesting one though as Stuart McDonald is a lot of things, but he’s never seemed overtly daft.

in fact over the years there’s been comments that he seemed more Labour than SNP until Labour just became utterly shit and he got the Indy bug

(I used to live in that area for a few years when DH worked there)

although he’s very very pally with Jamie Hepburn, the MSP, who is very pally with HY so maybe that’s the link

Rainbowshit · 23/04/2023 09:09

I think SNP MPs/MSPs with a background in finance are few and far between. Which tells its own story.

Stuart has a legal background and seems to have had a fairly decent career before entering politics unlike some.

Not sure why he would take on the role of treasurer?

As a group their background in any sort of employment outside the SNP Politics bubble is limited.

NicolaSturGONE · 23/04/2023 13:14

Is Keith Brown stupid or something? SNP most transparent party in Scotland?

Sugarfree23 · 23/04/2023 13:24

If they're meant to be most transparent- what does that say for the rest of them - opaque?

BigBoysDontCry · 23/04/2023 16:50

Keith Brown is as thick as a submarine door and one of the most stupid humans to walk the earth.

But then, maybe he meant that it was transparent that the SNP are corrupt and sleekit? - that is certainly true.

Notapartyanimal · 23/04/2023 19:49

Well this is embarrassing...

Over 1,500 purchases on the company credit card?!

guinnessguzzler · 23/04/2023 19:53

Fucking hell! How on earth would someone expect to get away with that? And also, just why?! That's what I can never understand in these kinds of cases. I know people who have done dodgy stuff with money out of sheer desperation, mainly when addiction was involved, but surely no one desperately needs garden tools to the point it would be worth committing fraud to get them?!

guinnessguzzler · 23/04/2023 19:55

Sorry, I meant to say 'I know of people' not 'I know people' although the main one I'm thinking of I suppose I did know her and had no idea until it all came out in the charity press 😱

SirChenjins · 23/04/2023 20:09

It’s quite obviously fraudulent purchases made by the Tories.

Notapartyanimal · 23/04/2023 20:10

I agree, the 'why' is the question that's bugging me the most, just sheer greed and entitlement I think.

It does seem like Peter Murrell is likely to be the fall guy here - I can already see how Mrs M's 'I had no idea what he was up to' speech is going to go.

They Tories obviously planted the shrubs in their garden

Ishouldbeoutside · 23/04/2023 20:20

Boris was using the camper van for his parties don’t you know?

tobee · 23/04/2023 23:44

Sorry if a naive question but is buying the garden tools with the SNP card sort of in a similar vein to money laundering?

Not really unless they paid thousands for the tools to a company that they owned (bit like when you have books sold for hundreds on Amazon market place that normally cost £20). Money laundering is trying to make it look like money you are receiving from a dodgy source is coming from a legitimate source.

tobee · 24/04/2023 01:16

Thanks @Shelefttheweb. I understand what money laundering is I was just wondering if in this situation they were trying to hide the cash or the cash trail. Idk but surely they were going trying to re sell the tools at some point - assuming that this is true.

I don't think so, it's just common or garden (!) theft or fraud.

I don’t think they are high enough value items, unlike the campervan. You wouldn’t get much for second hand garden tools. Though I wondered about other things but wasn’t wanting to speculate too much on here.
