I don’t think Kate Forbes will touch any role atm.

I think she’s positioning for taking over when it completely crumbles for HY.

Yes. She's wise to sit back & let the shit fly.
Step in later as the voice of reason.

Sugarfree23 · 20/04/2023 11:59

😂🤣😂🤭Brilliant

When do SNP next need to publish their membership numbers ?

Rainbowshit · 20/04/2023 12:49

Wow. This is quite a paragraph in the Telegraph.

"But allies of the former first minister warned Police Scotland they should think “very carefully” before arresting Ms Sturgeon.
They told The Telegraph that that officers should take into account the “significance” of arresting her, arguing it would be an “enormous” moment for the SNP and the country."

Wow. You're not supposed to say that out loud. They really have lost the plot.

HY getting bucketfuls of shit from the Media in a clip at Holyrood on Sky News just now. Bet this ain't what he envisaged when he took the Crown!

how utterly patronising and indicative of the dictatorial ethos of the SNP…who do these people think they are?!

Sugarfree23 · 20/04/2023 13:25

Anyone else starting to wonder if this mess could pull the Scottish devolution down?

TheBelmont · 20/04/2023 13:28

I’m hoping so…but I doubt it.

I guess this is the 'go big or go home' moment for the Tartan Cosa Nostra. Good to see them openly telling Police Scotland what to do though...

I don't think so. Just because the stewardship is shit doesn't mean that the law of the land is necessarily wrong.

But I imagine it will be a case of people starting to look again at that law of the land and wondering, 'how did we get here, where such terrible stewardship could be allowed to happen?'

I'm not sure that makes sense in words. It kind of does in my head.

TokyoSushi · 20/04/2023 13:45

I think that devolution will continue, but I don't think that the SNP can continue, but then I don't know what happens to all of it's MP's.

I think that there needs to be the equivalent of a General Election in Scotland, but if the SNP is indeed bankrupt and no more then I can't figure out how it's MP's would stand, or who would replace them? It's beyond complicated!

TokyoSushi · 20/04/2023 13:46

It's probably one of those 'we didn't plan for that because we never thought that it would happen' situations!

Shelefttheweb · 20/04/2023 13:47

I haven’t got the impression that Kate Forbes is a heavyweight. She may be good by comparison with the alternatives but that is a low starting position.

Tratjymp · 20/04/2023 13:53

Is Kate Forbes an honest politician who has stayed in a party/government she knows is dishonest at leadership level? That doesn't make much sense.

Or does she think the party is not corrupt or dishonest? That makes no more sense.

BigBoysDontCry · 20/04/2023 13:54

I do think that the way devolution and holyrood is designed needs to looked at as this situation was never foreseen based on previous voting patterns. No party should be in the position that the SNP were in with no proper checks and balances in place.

I do think it's an awful lot of money spent running something that I'm not sure particularly adds benefit. There must be some way to give each uk area some degree of autonomy over their own affairs (which i agree with) without the large scale cost of holyrood and the layer of MSPs? I'm really no expert (to put it mildly!) but couldn't the already elected MPs for each country be a sub group of westminster and deal with devolved issues?

Shelefttheweb · 20/04/2023 13:55

TokyoSushi · 20/04/2023 13:46

I suspect so. Constituent MSPs are elected as individuals so I guess can change parties, same for MPs. So I guess they become independents initially then start a new party which I they will probably do immediately. It will be interesting in that situation if they all go to the same new party. Of course if they split or stay as a bunch of independents for long then does the Scottish Government still have the remit to govern? They would no longer be the biggest party. Though a coalition of independents is possible.

I don’t know what happens to list MSPs.

Then there are councils too. What about councillors?

TokyoSushi · 20/04/2023 13:59

Oh I'd not thought of councillors, what a mess!

annabelindajane · 20/04/2023 19:54

The Telegraph piece makes us look like a “ Banana Republic”

How is this going to pan out ?

guinnessguzzler · 20/04/2023 21:18

Won't somebody please think of the Councillors?! 😁

38% still prepared to vote for them though - they could literally kill kittens in the street and they’d still get votes

Claridges12 · 20/04/2023 21:42

They've only gone down by 5? Just what will it take? Feels like a life sentence.
