This thread is brilliant. Such knowledgable posters, just a thank you.

Shelefttheweb · 19/04/2023 19:10

Even if she wasn’t treasurer, it is hardly credible that as leader who felt knowledgeable enough about the party’s finances to tell the NEC that they were never better, wouldn’t have known that someone had lent the party £107,620. And even less credible when that someone was her husband!

ThatsGenderwang · 19/04/2023 19:16

The issue of 'Treasurer' is a technicality, inasmuch as she, as leader, would automatically and legally fill any gap. She may well technically have been Treasurer in the evening, night and early hours of the morning between Chapman and Beattie#2. That's for the law to decide.

She could have been #thegloamingtreasurer

Shelefttheweb · 19/04/2023 19:40

It is not a technicality. If the leader is treasurer by default in the absence of a treasurer, then she would have been treasurer even if only for an hour. That is the point of having a default position. How much someone in a position for only a few hours could reasonably expect to know is a different matter. Though she would also have responsibility as leader of the party so should have know the bigger picture about the finances (including large loans and the presence or absence of £600k) for that position.

Just reposting this as somebody posted the other day (I'm sorry I can't remember who)

It's massively helpful for understanding what's going on!

I can’t believe that my SNP party faithful friends are taking the stance that there is no crisis going on and that it all being led by the British State.

I do actually feel sorry for them as they have devoted so much time and energy into the party and it’s a such a mess and they were fooled: their belief is hard to give up.

it reminds me of a bbc radio programme on Waco and David Koresh: they interviewed a U.K. followers who had survived Waco and still thought David koresh was brilliant.

Georgiepud · 19/04/2023 22:22

I think the SNP faithful friends are being unrealistic when they say there is no crisis. Its laughable they are so blind.

BigBoysDontCry · 19/04/2023 22:33

I'm just laughing about all the positive spin stories being posted on twitter by various SNP MSPs and MPs. It's like Humza has shouted "release the squirrels!"

NatashaDancing · 19/04/2023 22:45

I have been enjoying reading the Twitter feed of the embarrassingly dim SNP MSP relative of my husband. It's hilarious.

So who is going to be appointed the new treasurer? Kate Forbes might be an interesting choice…would be a test of her “sunlight is the strongest disinfectant” stance. I don’t know if HY would want to give her such a prominent role though given their recent history for fear she might blow the whole thing up. Per wiki, she worked as an accountant for Barclays for a couple of years but I can’t see anywhere that she actually qualified as a chartered accountant.

divorceadviceneeded · 20/04/2023 07:02

I don't know if Kate Forbes is really that switched on, numbers wise.

I heard her on Nick Eardley's 'leading Scotland where' R4 last night talking about the sno leadership race.

The difference between her & yousaf was 2,000 votes. She then said if those 2,000 had voted her instead of Yousaf she'd have won. But that's not right. If only 1,000 had voted for her rather than him she would have won. Because she'd be up 1k, him down 1k.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 20/04/2023 07:03

I don’t think Kate Forbes will touch any role atm.

I think she’s positioning for taking over when it completely crumbles for HY.

Sugarfree23 · 20/04/2023 07:34

I don't think Kate touch anything just now either. I don't think she trusts HY.

Northernsouloldies · 20/04/2023 07:38

It's all falling apart and the real reasons sturgeon packed in will come out. There is no way she would have gave up the dictatorship if all was well.

ThatsGenderwang · 20/04/2023 08:09

@Shelefttheweb yes, default, that’s the word I should have used. Tired brain.

BigBoysDontCry · 20/04/2023 08:18

So HY is currently treasurer then? Hell be desperate to pass on that hot potato but sury that gives him the opportunity for honesty and clarity that I'm sure he said he wanted?

Is there anyone from the old clique able to take it on?

KnittingNeedles · 20/04/2023 08:34

Audit Scotland - independent body - are this morning criticising the Scot Gov over their climate change policies. They are vague and lacking accountability. Kinda sums up the whole thing.

Climate protest in Edinburgh

Actions to cut climate risk are vague - watchdog

Audit Scotland said it was not clear what actions will be taken to limit the risk of climate change.

SirChenjins · 20/04/2023 09:49

Nonsense @KnittingNeedles - we're getting a bottle recycling scheme, Lorna has it all in hand. That alone is going to save tonnes of things and reasons for the environment.

TokyoSushi · 20/04/2023 09:56

So it's not today then...

Mochudubh · 20/04/2023 10:01

No-one's going to touch the Treasurer's job with a shitty stick. It'll be a game of Pass the Hand Grenade.

Sugarfree23 · 20/04/2023 10:04

Nobody would want it, especially without an accountant to check everything out.

ThatsGenderwang · 20/04/2023 11:16

And the Treasurer role has defaulted to Happy Humza. Absolutely fascinating.

'According to Electoral Commission rules, Mr Yousaf, as SNP leader will take over as his party's treasurer until a new one is appointed by them.
It is now up to the SNP to find a new treasurer, with this decision usually taken by the National Executive Committee.'

annabelindajane · 20/04/2023 11:27

Not sure of Kates or her aides financial credentials as the first time she raised tax the receipts fell by 300 million as she hadn’t taken the Barnet formula into account .
However am sure she would probably be a good fair first minister and would be given a lot more respect than Humza Y .

Hopefully she might find some people with actual talent to run the country and not just the incompetent yes “ men “ that are in position now .
