I agree @stealtheatingtunnocks . I’m not saying it’s not awful - it is - but it feels like there’s way more to this than a camper van.

There’s also no way that Yousless and his merry band of Youselettes didn’t know about this. Is that why he’s made so many of them ministers - to buy their silence?

One day we will look back on this time and wonder why we, as a nation, politics and party colours aside, thought it was a good idea to let a husband and wife team run a party where dissent is prohibited (in the SNP’s constitution- no backbenchers agitating), and run this country where there is no 2nd chamber for checks and balances and why so many people were completely blinkered.

Whether you love the SNP or not, none of this was a good idea.

I never thought it was a good idea.

Catsolitude · 17/04/2023 10:13

@Shelefttheweb no neither did I but there seems to be a large % of the population who are still defending Sturgeon with whataboutery or just general refusal to see how bad things are!

There are many for whom this is purely ideological, who have a religious fanaticism about SNP/Independence. It would be impossible to convince them with logic or argument about failures of education/ferries/nhs, or the disaster that would be a scexit economy because those things don’t matter to them. And lack of democracy doesn’t matter if your preferred person is in power, it simply presents a risk that someone else may come to power.

Scottishskifun · 17/04/2023 10:33

Reports are Nicola will not be in attendance in person in the chamber and will instead be there virtually.....

Anyone else looking forward to FM questions this week!

What’s so bizarre is that it’s a relatively small amount - if it’s just the £600k then that’s not much in comparison to what they were pulling in salary-wise over the years. If I was going to risk my job, livelihood and freedom Id be doing it for far more than £600k.

I’ve seen people in my company who earn between 90-100k go as they’ve been doing their expenses, in fact over the years I’ve seen a handful and every time it’s less than 500 quid they’ve stolen. Faking mileage or the like.

my reaction is always the same as yours. Why would you take that risk for that sum, but that’s as fundamentally we are honest. We don’t get it.

it’s not about the amount, it’s about the type of person who thinks they can get away with it , thinks they are smarter than they are and is fundamentally dishonest.

Sugarfree23 · 17/04/2023 10:39

The NHS thing is beyond shocking. And all along they'll be blaming WM for underfunding the NHS.

The whole Scottish Parliament needs an overhaul.

BigBoysDontCry · 17/04/2023 10:41

So it seems that neither SNP or the greens know how to manage their money....

Sturgeon's husband arrested.
BigBoysDontCry · 17/04/2023 10:44

Those figures are for 2021 when in June murell loaned the £107k to help with cash flow.

Shelefttheweb · 17/04/2023 10:12

I never thought it was a good idea.

Neither did a lot of others, me included, utterly ridiculous

guinnessguzzler · 17/04/2023 12:01

Agreed @Sunnyfunnytimes although I never cease to be amazed at how much people will risk for comparatively so little, no matter how many times I see it. I think you're probably right that for some people it's about getting away with it.

Workerbeep · 17/04/2023 12:24

Maybe rishi sunak has a pint about maths education.

Workerbeep · 17/04/2023 12:25

Point! Not pint 😂

Merrilydancing · 17/04/2023 12:41

So Blackford is saying that he knew about the resignation of the accountants towards the end of 2022 yet Humza knew nothing until he was elected leader.

I think he should get questioned a little bit more on this one as it seems strange that Blackford who was away down in London knew bu NS’s right hand man didn’t have a clue.

Sugarfree23 · 17/04/2023 12:52

Even although I did Modern Studies at school I never really say the importance of the Second Chamber until the ridiculous policies SNP have tried to push through.

The one that opened my eyes was the Named Person stuff. That would have been so open to abuse.

Looking at those figures how are Labour able to keep trading (is that the right word) with £5m losses in a year?

I can't get my head around the idea that SNP have 63 NEC members. Any one of them could be held liable for ALL the SNP debt. And if you were going to pursue that debt logically you'd pick the person who's going to be most likely to be able to pay up.

I can't even understand why none of the 63 have gone through the figures with a fine tooth comb before agreeing to be a NEC member.
It's not even like becoming a director of a company where the buck stops with the company.

Sunak does have a point that people should have a better understanding of maths.
But I think that people need to understand finances and statistics rather than higher level maths, few people need to understand calculus, and higher geometry etc.
But everyone should be taught about interest rates, compound interest, how to budget both small business and family budget. If you can understand that then you'll under the country needs to budget too.

potniatheron · 17/04/2023 13:18

Looking across twentieth and twenty-first century Europe, I don't think there's been a single Nationalist party that hasn't used the same modus operandi to gain and hold power - whip up hatred of the 'Oppressive Other' (England in this case), and inculcate an almost cultlike fanaticism in its supporters in order to distract from its own corruption.

It would be a shame if the SNP fell prey to this.

I never thought devolution was a good idea, full stop. I voted no in both devolution referenda.

It’s a powerful mix and politically seems to do well

For a while anyway.

But yes I think they already have. Hatred plus utopia

I'm not being sarcastic, I don't live in Scotland so I feel as though it's really for the Scots to say if they think the SNP is corrupt or not.

My only interest in the SNP is how Scottish Independence would affect me as an English taxpayer and on that basis I'm in favour of Scottish Independence, although I appreciate it wouldn't be up to me come the next indyref.

What I am very interested in is how nationalistic political parties tend to whip up and maintain support and the similarities between them in different times and places.

spiderplantparty · 17/04/2023 13:40

The video from yesterday was of Nicola speaking at the NEC in March 2021. It was a virtual meeting so the person recording her may well have had their camera switched off. What I wonder is who recorded it and why? If they didn't record the whole meeting they had a particular interest in that question.

And then Peter Murrell gave his 'loan' of £107,620 in June 2021.

And the circa £100-110k 'luxury motorhome' had arrived on old ma Murrell's driveway in January 2021.

So murky.

Peter Murrell's 'murky' loan to the SNP broke multiple electoral reporting rules

Nicola Sturgeon claimed she did not know when her husband loaned their party £107,620 which was not reported properly to the Electoral Commission leading to guidance being given.

Agree with this post . Exactly what has happened here .

It is bizarre as to how it happens .

Im also sure money was constantly siphoned off to an account abroad to build up cash for a bank come independence.

BigBoysDontCry · 17/04/2023 09:45

I and others posted on here years ago about the diverting of funds specifically given for the NHS. Apparently it was fine because the money can't be ring fenced and our glorious SNP know best what to spend the money on. 🤷‍♀️

Do Govs not need to produce detailed accounts about exactly where all the taxpayers money goes????

Sugarfree23 · 17/04/2023 16:42

They should be asked for detailed accounts on where every single penny goes.
