Good. It's all unravelling.

A lot of new people (...) ran and won seats in 2015, the first election after the 2014 vote.
That just left those who failed to be elected in 2015 to run for the Scottish parliamentary election in 2016.
So the Scottish Parliament got the also rans.

So Scottish people are voting for failed also rans to run the country? Well, that explains a lot. 😄

Shelefttheweb · 27/03/2023 17:17

So the Scottish Government will be run by a FM who got just 1570 vote more than his opponent in the second round following a campaign manipulated in his favour, together with the Greens who got barely that number of votes in total between them at the election. Democracy eh?

Aphrathestorm · 27/03/2023 17:34

Some good talent lies stagnant at WM Aye like “ Hapless “ Deirdre Brock and the delightful Mhairi Black .Suggestion from a caller on Radio Scotland this morning that Holyrood is scrapped , money is given to local councils and is overseen by Scottish Office

The majority voted for devolution in 1997.

The number wanting to return to direct control from the Scottish Office is minute.

Are you actually suggesting Alister Jack as Scotland's leader??

Do you not think Joanna Cherry, Philippa Whitford, Alison Thewliss, and others are wasted stuck down in Westminster where their arms are tied behind their backs?

NatashaDancing · 27/03/2023 18:27

Do you not think Joanna Cherry, Philippa Whitford, Alison Thewliss

Cherry is overrated and the other 2 are who?

SirChenjins · 27/03/2023 18:51

Is Joanna Cherry seen as talent by the SNP? She seems like a thorn in their side.

Interesting that posters who have such vocal opinions on Scotland, don't even know the names of Scottish MPs. Funny that.

The change to SNP rules regarding standing as MSP (if you're an MP) has stymied capable politicians making the shift to Holyrood. Hamza has all the hallmarks of being a temporary leader. None of the big hitters would touch it with a bargepole atm. They want someone else to manage the GRR, s35, fallout.

Hamza?! Who he?

Or possibly it's because because they make no impression?

Workerbeep · 27/03/2023 19:29

Going by the recent pr puff pieces in the media, Angus Robertson is waiting in the wings (ahem, his wife owns a pr company; nepotism is rife in the SNP, worst of all the parties in my opinion)

AlexandriasWindmill · 28/03/2023 10:01

I don't know anyone in Scotland who is interested in politics who wouldn't recognise MPs' names. It's pretty basic information. Plus Scottish political circles are so small there's always someone who knows someone. The six degrees of separation are reduced to about three.

SirChenjins · 28/03/2023 10:32

Yes, the circle of influence is very tight in Scotland - too tight.

AlexandriasWindmill · 28/03/2023 12:02

I don't know how you widen it when the country is so small tbh. But there is definitely an issue with cliques at the top of political parties making it difficult for others to get involved or rise through the ranks. Not to mention the inordinate influence of people from the South side of Glasgow 😀

Aphrathestorm · 28/03/2023 12:20

If you are referring to the south side constituencies of NS and HY neither have lived there for a long time if ever.

HY's school is a prominent private school in the south but AFAIK he commuted in from an East Ren suburb?

He's now in Dundee with his councillor 2nd wife.

NS lives where the old zoo was. She's one of 4 MSPs close by.

Kate would have been a good route out of the central belt stranglehold on power.

AlexandriasWindmill · 28/03/2023 12:41

I thought the laughing face was a clear sign I was joking. Hmm
However, I also meant Anas and Humza both attended Hutchie. I wonder if it's becoming Scotland's Eton.

LongWhiteCar · 28/03/2023 14:30

Given the academic reputation held by Hutchie, I’d be surprised if the school prospectus/ website highlights Humza as a former pupil.
It certainly wouldn’t encourage me to send my DC there.

I see Humza’s still trying to pursue the GRR.
Mhairi Black is describing the proposed reforms as ‘not controversial’
The Greens still have their feet under the table as the Deposit Return shambles rumbles on.
It’s business as usual for the SNP administration ie total shit show.

how she managed covid compared to BJ

Well, that wouldn't have been difficult.

I'm Scottish, have family there, but have been in England for a long time.

From a distance, NS looked very capable and competent, especially compared to the various tory PMs. But as I understand it, schools and hospitals have both suffered badly under SNP control.

Nothing works in Scotland any more, nothing. From ferries to schools, from the law to prisons from hospitals to the.police all are subject to cash starvation and neglect but she can throw money into opening useless embassies abroad.
Her only interest in Scottish people is in trying to impose queer ideology on them.
