Good. It's all unravelling.

how she managed covid compared to BJ

Well, that wouldn't have been difficult.

I'm Scottish, have family there, but have been in England for a long time.

From a distance, NS looked very capable and competent, especially compared to the various tory PMs. But as I understand it, schools and hospitals have both suffered badly under SNP control.

Mrs Murrell was very good at talking but not much else I’m afraid . Totally out of her depth and surrounded by MSPs and ministers who are not up to the job . 3 rd rate regional administrators at best . Small population with more money per head to spend than England and everything failing badly . A party of grievance whose greatest success is brainwashing the voters .

Feel totally vindicated and proud that the majority of Scotsnetters have been calling these people out and seeing through their appalling governance
for years - we’re nae daft .

👏🏼 @annabelindajane All of this. Think we’re all under different names now and probably on a Murrell hit list from back in the day, but for the majority- I do believe it’s the majority- of Scotsnetters this past month has been worth waiting for. Hopefully some of the Nicola fans across the U.K. will have their lightbulb moment too ‘oh but she was such a good communicator’ ‘she managed covid so much better than Boris & co’ 🤣

…and there’s obviously still so much more to come🍿

Yes ai have friends who will still vote for them regardless of what is unearthed because "We need to stop being ruled by ths villains at Westminster".
Hmm. Wasn't there a big handout from Westminster just this week.....

Same, in fact some are mine are doubling down, after wanting nothing to do with me because I'm a nazi bigot obvs.

Crunchygrass · 18/03/2023 14:58

I thought NS was an exceptional leader, Scotland has largely flourished under her leadership despite it being an unbelievably tough context of a no vote in the Independence referendum and then brexit and Covid. I think she’s far better than any other UK leader of the past 10 years, she’s done well to survive so long. The UK over all has been far from impressive since Brexit, but I thought she was a shining light. Having lived in England and Scotland over the past 10 years I think services including NHS and political leadership are far better in Scotland than England apart from the odd exception (on average I think the roads are better in England).

abandonhope · 18/03/2023 15:07

I was impressed by NS and how she managed covid compared to BJ.

Her communication style was better but she did not manage the Covid crisis better. Excess death rates and care home deaths were very high.
I wonder if she'd have been as keen on longer lockdowns without Westminster finance.
In addition, education standards are poor and the ferries scandal a disgrace.

SirChenjins · 18/03/2023 15:10

Scotland has largely flourished under her leadership

I don’t know how you’re defining flourished but we’ve done no such thing.

54isanopendoor · 18/03/2023 15:11

Well, it's all hitting the fan now, isn't it?

NS jumped before she was pushed. PM jumped as he was being pushed.

There is more to come I think - largely financial.

We'll be well rid of the pair of them imo.
They've just about destroyed any credibility the SNP has for their own ambition.

Of the three candidates I'd vote Regan, then Forbes.
I'd not vote for Humza if he were the last man standing.

There are many undecideds though. I was impressed by NS and how she managed covid compared to BJ. I might have voted for her, but I definitely have no faith in any of these candidates.

How exactly did she manage covid better than BJ?

She followed just about everything he did by 2-3 weeks.
Glasgow wasn't allowed visitors for 9mths.

Of course you can think that @Crunchygrass and I personally really, really miss the times when you could be socialising with a friend who had opposing political views, but you still muddled along together. The sad thing about Scotland these days is you can’t be anti-SNP other than on a Scotsnet chat and you couldn’t be expressing any criticism of Sturgeon, anywhere outside your own home, such as your workplace. That’s a pretty scary state of affairs.

However, I shouldn’t forget the baby boxes, so there’s that.

LongWhiteCar · 18/03/2023 15:33

Respect to Ash Regan here.
Not only did she stick her head over the parapet over the GRR debacle, she’s demonstrated courage and political nous in pushing for transparency from the Murrells and the SNP old guard.
That push along with Kate Forbes support and professionalism has finally brought about the demise of a truly rotten administration.
There’s so much more to this and I hope the legal process holds those involved to account.

Scotland deserves so much better and I sincerely hope that the die hard SNP brigade demand competent, honest, high calibre representatives who actually get on with governing the country for the whole of its population.
And yes, here’s to all the Scotsnetters who have been right all along.

54isanopendoor · 18/03/2023 15:36

@NowThatsWhatICall22
Not only the Cosa Nostra approach to the whole SNP so those involved were frightened but across Scotland as a whole with Yusaf's HateSpeak, and the Named Person Scheme. Scary stuff.

Grantanow · 18/03/2023 15:39

Hooklander · 18/03/2023 12:32

It's the money really though, isn't it? Those accounts look hinky even without the missing £600k.

I understand there is an opened police investigation (Operation Branch....) Into the 'missing' money.

Workerbeep · 18/03/2023 15:42

The penny dropped for me when NS was so slow in taking action against Derek MacKay.
I don’t want to be part of anything where it’s ok for an adult texting a teenage boy offering personal trips and tours; when called out for this, his colleagues proclaimed he hadn’t broken any law and reminded us all of the age of consent.
I also cringed at the interview where he told of his legendary drinking and karaoke at party conference, oh how we all laughed, what a great guy.

Covid was a gift for NS. The whole chief mammy trope was disturbing and seemed infantilising to me.

the difference between outcomes for deaths in Scotland and the rest of the U.K. from covid was found to be negligible.

Shelefttheweb · 18/03/2023 16:08

However, I shouldn’t forget the baby boxes, so there’s that.

I notice there was a recent call to donate these for Ukraine and loads of totally unused ones were donated. So clearly a waste of money.

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 18/03/2023 16:22

there was absolutely no real differences between Scotland and England when it came to Covid, Scotland should have been better due to being much less crowded even in the central belt it wasn't there were weeks when our infection rate was down compared to England there were weeks when it was up, overall the differences are negligble. Educational attainment has fallen in past 10-13 years Scotland has not flourished

Beddfellows · 18/03/2023 16:27

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 18/03/2023 12:21

At long last.

What a ridiculous situation to begin with. How he couldn't see that it was totally inappropriate to continue as Chair of the party once NS became leader I have no idea. Incredible it's taken a threat of a NC vote by the NEC to get him to go, but it's welcome news nonetheless.

But you're assuming he cared about it being inappropriate.

luxuryisforme · 18/03/2023 16:28

About time

RaraRachael · 18/03/2023 16:49

Covid was awful here with bloody mask wearing going on forever.
Education is terrible under the SNP.
Deathtrap roads in the north aren't getting upgraded since their shmoozing with the Greens.
Too many "buttering up" initiatives like baby boxes and free bus travel for all teens which is causing mass gatherings in towns and people scared to go out.

Good riddance to the lot of them.

Skyellaskerry · 18/03/2023 18:08

I disagree with her on independence, and I don’t vote SNP, but have real respect for Ash Regan - takes guts firstly to have spoken out and resigned over GRR, and secondly the SNP internal issue including the open letter the other day. Similar for Kate Forbes. Both seem to be speaking straight during the leader contest, would be good if they could work together.

Sugarfree23 · 18/03/2023 18:14

@RaraRachael totally agree Covid in Scotland was horrendous, Glasgow had the longest and most draconian of lockdowns, no visitors for 9mths from beginning of Sept 20 to May 21.
We're on going including kids in schools all blinking day.

All while NS was on her daily soap box. I wanted her sewn into a mask see how she liked it!

@Skyellaskerry
Yes it has crossed my mind they could be a fab force together.

Hedjwitch · 18/03/2023 18:19

I am relishing this fall from grace by the Murrells. Rotten to the core, propped up by lies and sycophants,a political party founded on anti English bigotry and hatred.
Scotland is in an appalling mess: education, roads, public transport NHS ...
If you dont live here, dont believe the spin you might have seen in the media. This is not a good place to be and for me,only my obligations to my elderly mother keep me here. I'll be out of here as soon as I can.

user567543 · 18/03/2023 18:44

I’m hoping Regan and Forbes can do a deal,
I know as someone not convinced on the economic or otherwise merits of scexit I should want Yousaf as he’s talentless but these two at least have stood up for something other than Indy and seem to have some principles.

Enjoyed that bbc article -
agree with @XDownwiththissortofthingX what took him so long, except hubris?

Mochudubh · 18/03/2023 18:57

Scottish politics in general is a complete and utter bloody shit show. I still want independence but can't now see it happening in my lifetime with the horde of complete incompetents of all colours intent on clambouring aboard the gravy train.

Bunch of self-serving fuckwits, with very, very few exceptions.

Crunchygrass · 18/03/2023 21:46

Agreed on the being able to socialise with friends with opposing views- I miss those days too. I think it’s still possible with lots of topics, but there’s so much vitriol around SNP and independence. That’s a shame you didn’t feel like you could criticise freely- that’s probably part of why I hold her in such high esteem, I think the constant putting down (I especially saw it in the English/UK wide media, English tories were big on this too) made her very good at her job. I get why people hate the Parliament though, I don’t think I’ve ever lived anywhere were people love the government, or even tolerate them. I remember being in Finland and Canada and they were complaining about how terrible their healthcare is 😂
