what do you think, objectively, are the best arguments for independence?

and/or

for remaining in the union?

Answers that are well reasoned and backed up with facts and figures would be great, but you know- go with whatever you feel.

You think? You think ‘cunt’ and ‘fuckwit’ foul mouthed? Don’t ever come to Glasgow lol. You think I’m racist because I found people in England cold and unfriendly and unwelcoming? God forbid you ever experience actual racism.

Luckily your opinion of me isn’t exactly making me greet.

Fandangoes · 27/02/2023 21:40

I’m not calling you racist on the basis of you finding people in England cold and unwelcoming. I’m calling you racist because you are racist - your hatred of the English oozes out of every sentence you write, until you start back-tracking. I have been to Glasgow many times and live in Scotland despite being English. Most Scottish people are wonderfully friendly, as are most English people. However, like all countries, there will always be some people are are not so warm and friendly or perhaps more choosy who they wish to be friendly with. I have been on the receiving end of similar ‘English hatred’ from some Scottish people who seem to share your views but fortunately I am not stupid enough to call ALL Scottish people racist or blame ALL Scottish people for the narrow-minded, racist views of the few I have encountered.

Shelefttheweb · 27/02/2023 21:50

I can perfectly believe that English people may not want to talk to Coorie, and I can understand why.

CoorieInByTheFire · 27/02/2023 21:56

Kindly quote me where I’ve said that, or are you going to twist my words too?

Honestly what a bunch of hypocrites you all are. It’s also actually pretty racist that you all assume that I’m only talking about English people, like the south of England is populated solely by English people.

Scottishskifun · 27/02/2023 22:04

@CoorieInByTheFire I grew up in London and knew most of my neighbours and we used to have summer bbqs in each others gardens.
I do recognise your description of South east England public transport however but mostly that's because many have long commutes and just want to relax in their own space I found.

It's great that your area of Glasgow is like that, but it's very different from when I visited Glasgow and witnessed 20 youths trying to attack a man walking down the central shopping area because he told them to get away from his gf who they were wolf whistling at and harassing, nobody intervined and this continued til the police turned up.....so you see we all have different lived experiences of places. Your Glasgow is very different from the times I have been. It doesn't however mean that I generalise all of Glasgow is filled with yobs.

TrinnySmith · 27/02/2023 22:09

The whole of the Borders is Tory which everyone chooses to ignore.

Fandangoes · 27/02/2023 22:09

You called people ‘English cunts’ - now I don’t care if that was all English people or a a subset of English people - in that context you are using the word English as a racist slur and all your back-tracking and accusing people of twisting your words will not hide that.
To defend that opinion you then went on to explain how horrible and unfriendly people in England are and how it can’t possibly have been your fault because you are really friendly and have lots of friends.

Coxspurplepippin · 27/02/2023 22:10

TrinnySmith · 27/02/2023 22:09

Yup, but that's because they're so close to the English, innit? Bad influence and all that.

TrinnySmith · 27/02/2023 22:11

The SE of England is full of Scots because that’s where the jobs are (also Geordies, Brummies etc)

feellikeanalien · 27/02/2023 22:17

I am Scottish currently living in Northumberland and would be sad to see the union splitting. Many of my friends are farmers who buy much of their livestock from Scotland, we have lots of hauliers coming from Scotland to get timber from the forests in and around Kielder. There are a large number of Scots living here. None of us would have any say in what happens to our country which is something which I recall caused a lot of anger during Brexit for UK nationals living abroad.

A hard border between England and Scotland would be disastrous for Northumberland as well as Scotland. Have we learned nothing from Brexit?

A question for you @Iheartscotland Do you think the independence movement would lose some support if there was a Labour government in Westminster?

Holyroodhell · 27/02/2023 22:24

I always presumed the Borders vote Tory as they live close to the border and realise they would be very badly affected by independence.

No I didn’t.

I posted this:

''No. Like most Scottish people I voted to Remain and was dragged out of the EU by a bunch of English cunts I didn’t vote for.''

Thats a direct quote from the deletion message. The qualifying words in that sentence are ‘I didn’t vote for’. I have not, and never have called the English collectively ‘cunts’. I called the Tory government cunts, which I personally think is pretty fitting.

Thats not being racist. I’ll own up happily to it being foul mouthed to plenty of people, but that is not racist. The post got deleted and now it’s fair game because nobody can see what I originally put.

CoorieInByTheFire · 27/02/2023 22:38

Oh and yeah, I am friendly and I do have lots of friends. I even have English friends that actually come up and stay with me. Amazing isn’t it. Not that you’ll believe me because you’ve already made your minds up that I’m a racist cunt because some twat can’t read properly.

I can well believe that happened, there’s lots of parts we don’t go to when the footie is on.

CoorieInByTheFire · 27/02/2023 22:44

Oh and look, an apology from MN and my post has been reinstated, because it WASN’T a personal attack. You can all go and read it for yourselves now and see that I was neither lying nor backtracking nor being racist.

It’s been an experience. One that’s given me really good insight into a lot of people who post here, I’ve learnt a lot. And lost a lot of faith in people, I can see why you’re called a nest of vipers, it’s very accurate.

It’s also made me dislike those in favour of the union even more now I’ve personally experienced just how manipulative and untruthful you can be. Have fun.

Coxspurplepippin · 27/02/2023 22:46

Honestly, Coorie, the hole's deep enough - stop digging.

CoorieInByTheFire · 27/02/2023 22:50

Really, what hole would that be? The racist ‘oh look you’re not being racist so we’ll reinstate’ post one? Or the thick as shit ooh you must be Mhari one? Or the All the English are horrible, except that’s not what I said one?

Or did I miss one? Do tell.

Coxspurplepippin · 27/02/2023 22:53

The one where you're being pretty abusive to anyone who dares to have a different opinion.

CoorieInByTheFire · 27/02/2023 22:55

Coxspurplepippin · 27/02/2023 22:53

Considering how you’ve all happily piled onto me for something I never said that’s pretty hypocritical.

Coxspurplepippin · 27/02/2023 22:57

I don't think I did.........

CoorieInByTheFire · 27/02/2023 22:59

It was a collective ‘you’ve’ not a personal one.

Coxspurplepippin · 27/02/2023 23:10

OK, so anyone who disagrees with you is a manipulative, untruthful, hypocrite. Smug, brainwashed, babbling unionists. Shameful. Grovelling to Westminster cunts.

How to win friends and influence people. Yeah, I've changed my mind. You've persuaded me. [Hmm]

Coxspurplepippin · 27/02/2023 23:10

Hmm Hmm Hmm

IkBenDeMol · 27/02/2023 23:11

To be fair to the original poster - she is polite and non-abusive. Same can't be said for her political ally.

And some people wonder why some of us are so reluctant to re-run the 2014 referendum - this is the level of toxicity which still exists 9 years on.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 27/02/2023 23:11

I’m very pro Scottish independence too. I’m English but happy for Scotland to go it alone. Shame we can’t vote for it.
