And I'm quite glad. My mental health was shot to pieces by the first one.

@Y0uCann0tBeSer10us completely agree

If the SNP were really serious about independence they could have dissolved Holyrood and called a Scottish Parliament election but they won’t because people are waking up to just how appalling they are.
Scotland doesn’t deserve independence if it’s government, under any political party, won’t & can’t protect the rights of women and children , and look after its most vulnerable people, especially disabled people.
Sturgeon has realized that you cannot kid all the people, all of the time after all.

Why use the UK parliament election as a ‘de facto referendum’? Sturgeon could
easily dissolve holyrood and frame the Scottish government election as one.

obviously the answer is that she doesn’t give a fuck about losing all the SNP seats at Westminster. But she knows the SNP would be decimated if she made a holyrood election into a de facto independence vote.

It’s not even well concealed.

Maybe she could get on with sorting out the significant messes in her areas of devolved responsibility and stop with this shite.

Rocksludge · 29/11/2022 12:55

I’m actually quite annoyed at Sturgeon’s arrogance to deny the people of Scotland from their right to participate properly in electing a UK government.

Why should they get to have an election about issues like defence, foreign policy and all those minor reserved issues? The SNP should just repurpose it to get around the Supreme Court clarifying the limits of their powers.

dreadful behaviour.

Call a Scottish parliament election and have the SNP manifesto simply say: a vote for us is only and entirely a statement that you want an independent Scotland.

And see how far that gets the SNP. Especially when other parties might actually form policies about things that matter in the day to day lives of Scottish people.

Apologies have only skimmed the thread but this claim that it isn't democratic to not allow another referendum- wasn't the Act of Union an agreed merger? With the intended aim and effect that the previous individual parties no longer have a say as individual parties? Because they're now one unit.
