And I'm quite glad. My mental health was shot to pieces by the first one.

@RhannionKPSS that doesn’t make sense.
yesterday it was reported in The Times that the BBC were found to have shown unfair bias towards SNP in the run up to the local elections in Scotland by broadcasting the serialisation of Devi Sridhar’s book.

I see there was a “ march “ on the BBC Scotland headquarters today...obviously, in their minds the BBC are to blame for something or other, possibly the NHS leak or maybe BBC Scotland aren’t following the dear leader and her orders any more.

yes we saw them walking along the Clydeside when we drive over the Kingston Bridge earlier. 50-70 people tops.

Scotland is better because of SNP. If "the majority" of Scots DON'T want independence, stop voting SNP into parliament. Ok, I get that only 1/3rd blah blah blah ... use your vote tactically, stop the Indies getting in. Otherwise, shut up and put up. Sorry, but that's parliamentary democracy.

Eastereggs1 · 26/11/2022 17:26

It could take 30 to 60 years for Scotland to reach a prosperous fiscal footing, with the intervening period marked by a decline in living standards an academic has claimed.

You think people shouldn't criticise the party in government because they were voted in democratically? Really?

Would you tell people not to criticise the tories for the same reason?

readsalotgirl63 · 26/11/2022 18:18

I agree one should accept the result even if it is not the one you want but surely it is the responsibility of citizens in a parliamentary democracy to hold the elected government to account ?

readsalotgirl63 · 26/11/2022 18:19

Oh I forgot that applies in other parliamentary democracies but not in Scotland where we shouldnt question anything the government does. 🤔

MarshaBradyo · 26/11/2022 18:24

Not sure that goes with the original No vote. It’d be great if so. And people have plenty to say over Brexit although no re vote

It seems it only matters when SNP use it as a one idea situation, which doesn’t hold.

Plus it effects everyone so we get a vote here for parties that put their stance in the manifesto

I quoted your line but generally agree with you btw

readsalotgirl63 · 26/11/2022 18:29

I think we would all be much better off if we accepted the outcome (indyref/Brexit/whatever), stopped wasting time and energy on trying to have a re-run and got on with dealing with the reality. It's not as if there isn't anything else to worry about - CoL, energy security, global warming NHS, education ..,..

It was also said we'd go back to the dark ages if devolution was granted to Scotland...

Jacopo · 26/11/2022 20:18

Well we have gone back to the dark ages as far as Scottish women are concerned.

Yes we certainly have, but it’s not going to continue. The pushback is working especially when some MSPs heard from two young people who know exactly what it’s like to be trans & to desist.

Jacopo · 26/11/2022 20:32

I wish I could share your optimism Rhannion but I think they are going to steamroller ahead regardless.

"A vote for the SNP is not a vote for another referendum." - Nicola Sturgeon

Valid to this day. A good chunk of their voters just want them to deal with things WITHIN the UK....

TartanGirl1 · 25/11/2022 12:59

Tell that to the English for Scottish Independence movement...

And now for the next instalment of things that never happened 🙄

Seriously????
You must live under a rock to think that it doesn't happen multiple posters
including myself have been on the receiving end and it's usually worse around election times.

There was an entire independence rally which had a speaker calling for the English to be driven out which was filmed!
Nobody is saying the entire independence movement thinks this but come on open your eyes!!!!

HeraldicBlazoning · 27/11/2022 11:34

Yes, DH is English and has had it too. Luckily he's quite arsey assertive and calls people out on it - they usually dismiss anti-English comments as "banter".

I work with a lady from Newcastle she got it during the last Indy ref too. Her kids got called all sorts at school to the point she had to phone the police as the school couldn’t stop the bullying . To deny it is laughable . I guess that’s why people call it a cult.

How many MSPs turned up to listen to the detransitioners? They have such an important story to hear.

Scottishskifun · 29/11/2022 10:39

Not a fan of the tories despite scotnet if you don't vote SNP your automatically a tory but I am glad they are calling for a review of the 20 million ear marked for a vote the courts have said can't be had!

Civil servants should not be utilised for party stuff so if a defacto general election it has to come out of SNP funds....and they can find the money that went missing from their funds!

TheBelmont · 29/11/2022 10:56

@Scottishskifun thats good news indeed…I hadn’t seen it but I’m pleased it is getting some scrutiny.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 29/11/2022 11:22

I agree that masses of tax payers money was wasted on something that we always knew (and it's now been confirmed) the SG don't have the power to take forward anyway. Even if they did have the power to hold a referendum, they don't have the public support for Independence as a few of the more thoughtful independence advocates have pointed out, making it even more of a waste of time and resources. In an age of massive cuts and costs of living spiralling it just looks obscene frankly. I heard Sue Gray is going to be doing the investigating which should be interesting. I wonder if she'll look into the book-keeping more generally while she's on it - it would be fascinating to see where exactly all our money is going and what is being squirreled away for nefarious purposes.
