It’s so cold. Our house is 15 degrees, less at night and dh is still refusing to put the heating on till at least November. We have wee ones and even with loads of layers, I wfh and I’m freeeezing! His fam down south aren’t putting theirs on till Jan 🙄 and he’s trying to compete. But we stay in Scotland…
Have you put yours on yet??

No I have slippers and a dressing gown and a duvet for watching tv in the evening. Saying that we've all got coughs and colds. I have reframed my thinking that feeing cold is good as feeing cold is keeping money in our pockets. Doubt we will last until November though.

ParkheadParadise · 28/09/2022 18:49

Yes I have.
I'm bloody freezing.
I put it on about 5pm and will turn it off after dd has had her bath about 8pm.
I hate being cold.

TightDiamondShoes · 28/09/2022 18:53

i put an oil heater on for a couple of hours the other morning, but other than that no.

so far the only concession I’ve made is to start closing internal doors and not leaving the door wide open all day.

but the 15 tog duvets are on the bed and I’m using a hot water bottle every night.

frankly I’ve got better things to spend money on than heating.

Fabuleuse · 28/09/2022 18:57

Yes, this evening for the first time. Thermometer was measuring 14.9 degrees in the bedrooms so that's a bit cold with young children. I have it set quite low, usually 17 or 18.

Newlychosencatservant · 28/09/2022 19:00

Yes, just a wee blast when we need to heat the house a bit. We have 3ft deep stone walls and the house gets freezing!

erikbloodaxe · 28/09/2022 19:00

God yes mine is on. It's cold and that's the time to put the heating on. 6am until 9pm @ 20 degrees until the Spring. Same as every other year. I'd rather go without a holiday than be cold and miserable all winter plus my cats cannot cope with the cold and so I'm saving on vet bills.

Trulyweird1 · 28/09/2022 19:02

I am trying to hold out for just a little while longer, but the poor dogs are being mercilessly cuddled.

Crocky · 28/09/2022 19:02

No. My thermostat is still reading 18° though.

Snugglemonkey · 28/09/2022 19:02

Yes mine is on. Waiting for a date is silly. I go by temperature!

chipsandpeas · 28/09/2022 19:03

yup had it on for a few hours yesterday and this morning

Coolcoolcool · 28/09/2022 19:29

Usually we would keep it at 18 degrees. We’ve put oil heaters in the kids room for bedtime and we’ve got an electric blanket in ours. Dh wants to use the bathroom underfloor heating at bedtime too over switching on the central heating. Annoyingly they keep messing up installing a smart meter so it’s hard to know which is actually the most cost effective - I’m angling for a quick blast of central in the evening, mornings I can cope with dressing gowns and thermals, but I feel like we need something to bring the base level up!

If you have a gas boiler it would likely be cheeped to use it rather than the oil heater and underfloor heating

UserNameNameNameUser · 28/09/2022 19:33

We are determined to make it to October out of sheer bloody mindedness. It’s 14.7 currently and was just above 14 yesterday. Blanket, jumpers, hot water bottle.

TheSausageKingofChicago · 28/09/2022 19:37

15° here and holding out with blankets and dressing gowns. I have a small fan heater in my office which I’ll whack on for an hour if it’s really cold and an electric blanket on my bed.
It’s no different to any other year for us - we’ve always had to watch the bills.

JulesCobb · 28/09/2022 19:39

Not out line but but whacked it on full at work today

CasaDelSoot · 28/09/2022 19:41

Yes ours went on yesterday

Justmuddlingalong · 28/09/2022 19:41

Put mine on for an hour. Set to 19 degrees. Just about to turn it off again.

rumred · 28/09/2022 19:41

An hour Central heating this morning, log burner this evening. Life is way too short to be cold and miserable

Doublevodka · 28/09/2022 19:41

I’ve just put mine on for the first time. Was really trying to hold out a bit longer but it’s bloody freezing.

Bytrgrewd · 28/09/2022 19:44

Yes. Went down to 12.5 in the house so I boosted the heating for an hour.

Sturmundcalm · 28/09/2022 19:44

put it on for half an hour last night. managed not to tonight but friday's forecast is hideous so will definitely be on then i think... i was trying to hold out till saturday/october but have decided that an hour's central heating is not the efficiency hill to die on - we don't go anywhere near as warm as some folk and are overall middling/slightly lower energy users based on the average graph things i look at

Westiegirl3 · 28/09/2022 19:47

Mines been on since Sunday evening, I go by temperature never the date.
It's set to 20 degrees between 7am to 9pm, it'll be on now until March/April time

30not13 · 28/09/2022 19:55

It kicked in this morning for a little while. Thermostat set at 14.

torthecatlady · 28/09/2022 19:59

No, but it did kick in very early this morning. It must've been pretty cold because we have the thermostat set quite low.

Joystir59 · 28/09/2022 19:59

I've just put it on set at 18. I hate feeling cold. I have got most of the radiators turned low and I'm wearing a long sleeved thermal top, sweater, baggie Carrie, jogging bottoms thick socks. Curtains closed and lounge door shut to keep the heat in.
