Tell me this is not real please. Scotland's first period dignity officer is a man. A MAN.

I just can't put into words how furious this makes me. Females are having the pis absolutely ripped out of them in Scotland.

What the fuck would a male understand about the indignity of realising you'd leaked through onto your clothes.

About the cold fear when your period is late.

About trying to unwrap a tampon quietly. Etc etc.

I suppose the only saving grace is at least they are not claiming to be a woman.

I would also think many of the online posts on here and other online social media channels are verging on online bullying too.

As I have said previously, let him begin his post first before you make any judgement or cast any stones.

Absolutely no chance!

Anyone with even a single ounce of self awareness would never have applied in the first place, realising they are completely incapable of delivering!!
In most jobs you need relevant knowledge, experience and be able to show you can complete the work competently. Jason can do none of those things!! By default he has never had a bloody period!!! How can he possibly know what it is like!

This is a woke appointment made for totally the wrong reasons (yet again) at a great cost to the women and girls it is supposed to help.

‘people’ that menstruate was very telling - we know why HE is there.

This isn’t going to go away quietly - he needs to resign with good grace. Now.

oviraptor21 · 19/08/2022 08:17

Agree with the above.

Also referring to @Discovereads quote from the job description:
"Provide support to the project team in identifying, developing and facilitating events and activities that engage our communities and young people, creating opportunities for learning, networking, and accessing free products, (with a particular focus on identifying barriers to access and reducing the stigma around menstruation and period products.”

Exactly what kind of useful support can a man offer? He has no experience in engaging with women and girls about periods, little or no understanding of the issues at play and is in just about all ways less qualified than the members of the team he is expected to lead.

Blister · 19/08/2022 08:21

Ugh. This passes me off.

Man releases a tweet.
Cue negative reactions from women.
No update or a mangled update which infuriates women more.
Surprised pikachu face when the negative responses increase.
He's been bullied.

It's 50% of the population. When you enrage them, it tends to get noisy! Ignoring women's complaints or brushing it under the carpet as a misunderstanding isn't engagement.
I've already said once that I don't think he should be hounded out of the job but this was a bad appointment.
Defending my thoughts is not bullying.

Bluebellsunderthetrees · 19/08/2022 09:26

I don't understand how the Dundee SNP Administration would not be aware of the backlash that appointing a man to this role would cause? Or anyone else for that matter, particularly given the current situation in Scotland where women feel their rights are under attack.
But then at the top we have Nicola Sturgeon dismissing women's concerns out of hand on that regard so maybe not a surprise at all.
Whilst I do feel a little for the individual appointed, it does state in the press release "As a male, Jason’s new role has surprised and intrigued some colleagues and friends," seems they just forgot/disregarded all the women who might be surprised too. Or maybe not "surprised" just pissed off.

eh? this isn't what happened? And what's a surpised pickachu face?

A press release was issued, cue backlash. This included a statement which would have been written by the period dignity partnership. They've put him in the situation, and yes I'm baffled that at no point he thought to himself it was bad idea.

There hasn't been any comment from Jason himself because he will have to been told to say silent while they panic try and rescue the situation.

I'm raging, but directing it at the people who run the partnership, and those who are doing nothing to address the issues raised. I'm not making personal attacks or sending him trolling messages via DM. I don't think commenting on his appearance or things that are out of his control/irrelevant are fair. (he's on AL! he's not saying anything! he wore a red shirt! he has muscles! what a smug face! etc etc )

I also cannot believe they read what they were saying in the statement, press photos etc and thought it would be recieved well. I did wonder if they were quite a young team, but everyone looks middle aged.

I'm also baffled that there's been no attempt to rescue this on social media, particularly twitter. They seem completely out of their depth.

Bluebellsunderthetrees · 19/08/2022 09:57

@leafyygreens Totally agree The leading headline in the press release "Dundee Man Leads Scotland in Role to End Period Poverty" WTF and then "A Dundee man, has been appointed to a pioneering new role to end period poverty and reduce stigma".
PR is about optics and normally the SNP are right on top of it. For me it just underlines the fact that nobody from local level right up to the top gives a fig. They feel untouchable.

Perhaps if you exist in an echo chamber this would all seem fine. Up until it escapes into the real world and the sunlight hits it.

I don't exist in an echo chamber and think it's ok for a man to be in a buracratic role. The project is huge and personally don't think it's essential for admin type positions to be staffed by women only.

Loads of other issues have come to light regarding this recruitment though (thanks all for the digging!).

As a project manager he would be coordinating and scheduling in surveys and focus groups, doing the data gathering and statistical analysis. Arranging venues, IT support, catering, the promotional materials, security, etc. You don’t need to be a woman to do project management support for a health/biology issue anymore than you’d need to be an astronaut to do project management for a space program.

He also expressed hed be talking about menopause.

Given thats something grossly misunderstood even by medical professionals the idea he can add anything of value is absurd.

Well this is what I find quite misleading about some of these posts

Here's what he actually said:

We’ll also raise awareness of the menopause, which, although a natural process for women, has wider repercussions in the world of work and family.

The project raising awareness of this, led by women and experts, absolutely fine by me. Him randomly giving his opinions, not fine by me.

No one has said you have done any bullying. But quite a few comments directed towards Jason have crossed the line into bullying.

“This fucker #jasongrant #PeriodDignity is actually fucking gaslighting us! Basically he sees his task as a way of conditioning women & girls to not affect others especially the work place during their period or menopause. He can fuck right off! Bin him off NOW!”

“I dont give a sht about him, it’s the damage to girls & women that REALLY psses me off. What an arrogant little prat he is. This photo is child abuse 😡😡😡”

“Jason Grant, if you're reading any of this, you should step down and leave that job to a woman. Weirdo.”

“What an absolute tosser you are Jason. You wouldn’t have a clue what it feels like ever, in your lifetime as a male. An absolute joke”

“What motivates creepy men like Jason Grant to apply for these roles?”

“I make no apology whatsoever for stating Jason Grant gives me the freaking CREEPS!”

“Jason Grant step down. Shame on everyone for putting this gym bunny in a role where girls and women feel so insecure and vulnerable. Hire a fricking woman.
It’s blindingly obvious and frankly disgusting.”

“Jason Grant is an arrogant man who shouldn’t be allowed near women, women should be in charge.”

“And this Jason grant used to work in the tobacco industry now wants everybody to get tampons which are cancerous...? 🤔”

This is just tip of the iceberg.

Its still all so patronising and smacks of superiority. All these people in the workplace have or have had a mother and/or grandmother. Many will.have wives and sisters and daughters. You'd have hoped that the men in these families would have supported their wives and girlfriend's amd mothers through the menopause. Taken it upon themselves to read up I mean you can do that on the toilet on your smart phone fgs.

Women for decades have been working towards trying to raise awareness, set up support and understanding. And not in paid capacities either.

To walk into a position like this as a man thinking you will somehow achieve what no one else has..its just arrogant.

foliageeverywhere · 19/08/2022 12:52

@Whatwouldscullydo

I don't see how a project that aims to improve this is a bad thing - women still face significant discrimination when it comes to be taken seriously about menopause related health issues (OR having everything dismissed because you're menopausal).

Fucking right we're fucking angry. When a man takes a job to mansplain periods to girls and women, damn fucking right, we're fucking furious.

Sotiredofthelies · 19/08/2022 23:57

Yes, it is absolutely enraging. The very deliberate disrespect, sneering openly at women. And what the hell does a man in his 30s want to hang around with teenage girls for? Pretending this is in any way normal behaviour is bizarre. Plus, I know women are not their own worst enemy, but I've seen a few dickpanderers squealing and squirming trying to justify this absolutely unjustifiable and very deliberate insult, and that also fills me with rage.

foliageeverywhere · 20/08/2022 00:08

And what the hell does a man in his 30s want to hang around with teenage girls for?

@Sotiredofthelies this isn't what the job would involve.

Have posted before but the anger needs to be with the partnership, all of the issues have been detailed on this and other threads.

Personal attacks like this against the man they hired aren't right.

Blister · 20/08/2022 01:27

Women now need to be angry the correct way.
This is mental.

They do if they want to be taken seriously. Otherwise it’s just hatful sexism and cyber bullying. Which should not be tolerated in any civilised society.

Whatwouldscullydo · 20/08/2022 08:31

Whats really sexist is that no matter what a man does the real issue is how the women react to it.

Discovereads · 20/08/2022 08:43

Whatwouldscullydo · 20/08/2022 08:31

All Jason has done is apply for a job. There’s nothing wrong in that.

If you think the job should have been restricted to women only, then it’s the women who advertised the job for all and then decided to hire a male candidate for the job that are to blame. These same women are the ones who paid for and orchestrated the shit show of a press release regarding his appointment. New hires don’t get to decide oh I’m so great I need to get my new job published in the papers- that’s a decision made by his female manager.

So it’s the fact that the hatred from women towards Jason is completely caused by misdirected anger and the sexist belief that “a man must be to blame”. That red polo shirt is like a red flag to a mindless bull.

GetOffTheRoof · 20/08/2022 08:47

Why do people keep referring to a man they've never met by his first name?

It's a bizarre posting style with significant consistencies amongst those posters. Makes you wonder if it's members of the appointing group. I've never seen it in any other discussion about a "famous" person or celeb, so why here?
